Great way to open a weekend of jazz

by AlTee on 4/2/10Berks Jazz Fest - Reading

The show was fantastic. The group showed its creativity by opening with a Barry White number that included a string section conducted by David Benoit. along with the Berks horns whom sounded as powerful and mellow as the Tower of power. Richard Elliot bought the house down when he played the EWI ie electronic wind instrument. What a way to start the first night of a three day weekend of jazz.

    Braun, Elliot, and Benoit--perfect combo

by Kathryn7 on 3/30/10Berks Jazz Fest - Reading

Rick Braun and Richard Elliot are already a perfect combo as demonstrated in the "R & R " CD. When you add David Benoit, a string orchestra, a horn line and vocalist Selina Albright, you get one perfect concert! Whether they played individually or together, this was a concert to remember--great job!

This was the most amazing concert my husband and I have ever attended. We did not want to leave the Cathedral for hopes they would continue to play. It was excellent, ten stars if possible. this was our first year and we plan to attend from here on in. We are from Washington, D.C. and we told all of our family and friends about the concert.

Best show of the Berks Jazz Fest

by CTJazzFan on 3/29/10Berks Jazz Fest - Reading

The reason why the Berks Jazz Fest outshines all others is concerts like this one. It wasn't enough to get three of the greatest jazz musicians of all time on one stage -- Rick Braun, Richard Elliott and David Benoit. No, they added a horn section and a string orchestra for an incredibly full sound, stellar backup players like bassist Nate Phillips and keyboardist Ron Reinhardt, and stylist guest vocalist Selina Albright, who was hot and sassy. She is Gerald Albright's daughter and I predict a real star in the making. It was one of those shows that you wished would never end. My wife and I travel to this festival almost every year from Connecticut and we've seen many great shows. This definitely makes the top 5.

Fantastic show-don't know how they put it together from afar with the horns, strings and fantastic jazz stars, but like so many Berks Jazzs events, a unique smooth jazz experience that cannot be experienced elsewhere.

    Unforgettable night

by RRBD3 on 3/28/10Berks Jazz Fest - Reading

Seeing Rick Braun and David Beniot for the first time was a thrill to me . To then have the pleasure of Rich Elliott and Selena Albright made it much more special. I went from one performance to the next reminiscing and then thrilled listening to a song I was hearing for the first time. Gerald Albright must be very proud. Selana was great and I look forward to hearing more from her. Having the string section conducted by David was more then I expected. Thank you Rick, you had a great group of friends, Friday night.

    Braun and friends were incredible

by ker2yo on 3/28/10Berks Jazz Fest - Reading

Wow...what a fantastic concert. Rick Braun is an incredible talent. He played with David Benoit & Richard Elliot. I thought Elliot stole the show with his "over the top" enthusiasm & sax skill, but the three of them obviously enjoy playing with each other and the audience loved every moment. The strings and horns backup groups added depth to the sound. I liked the fact that each musician was given their own spotlight. Selena Albright as a guest singer has an amazing strong and natural voice.. Great addition. We are still talking about the concert...Thank you Mr. Braun

by MeandBoo on 3/28/10Berks Jazz Fest - Reading

As always Rick Braun gave an outstanding performance along with Richard Elliott and David Benoit. You can't leave a Braun concert without a smile on your face. He loves what he does and feeds off the audience.

    Smooth Jazz at it's best!

by zeeno98 on 3/28/10Berks Jazz Fest - Reading

What a great concert! Rick Braun, Richard Elliott and David Benoit -- all sharing the same stage. And the addition of a 12-piece string orchestra was such an unexpected and wonderful enhancement! Benoit's arrangements using the strings on some of our favorite songs added so much depth and texture to the pieces! And an even bigger surprise was the appearance of Selina Albright, (Gerald Albright's little girl) who channeled Billie Holiday on "Lover Man" and helped bring down the house with a Tower of Power cover of "What is Hip" in the encore. I've seen Braun in several great concerts but never knew he could sing. His emotional tribute to his mother was very touching. Of course R&R had a great horn section (including Rick's little brother) and the rest of the band were accomplished pros in their own right -- especially Nate Phillips (doing Wayman Tisdale on the bass) and Dwight Sills' guitar licks. Every concert at the Berks Jazz Fest I've seen has been worth three times the price!

Rick Braun at Scottish Rite @ Berks Jazz Fest

by penman39 on 3/27/10Berks Jazz Fest - Reading

Great show. Sound quality not up to standards. David Benoit's piano was hard to hear and had a hollow sound to it. Poor mic selection/position to pick up the piano. I am surprised the sound crew didn't pick up on it.

Wish the night was recorded.

    Rick,David and Richard

by DrBillZ on 3/27/10Berks Jazz Fest - Reading

This was the most exciting and unforgetable jazz show I have ever seen. There were moments of tender, love inspired songs such as Rick's rendition of My Funny Valentine and total ear blasting, rapid heart beat inducing IWE voice synthesizer renditon by Richard Eliot.

We always love the Scottish Rite Cathedral as a venue and were very pleased again. This Jazz Fest show was just fantastic from the get go. Rick Braun just plays that horn soooo well and Richard Elliot - well they are masters in their craft. Then David Benoit played the ivory. Just awesome;-) Great show and would definatly go again.

This was by far one of the best Jazz Fest concerts I have ever attended. These guys were hot from the moment they started playing to the last number. GREAT energy!
