still lovin' the 80's
by JimmyF99 on 8/5/18Bergen Performing Arts Center - EnglewoodHey all. Went to this show and it didn't disappoint. All the acts were good, Modern English and ABC were especially good because in both of those cases, it was the whole band that was there, not just the lead singer. The other three acts, as good as they were, would have been better with their old bands there, or at least a few members of them. It makes a difference. I would still probably say Belinda Carlisle was the star of the show, but I was really impressed with Modern English and will check out their musical catalog very soon. ABC was also a great band with a phenomenal sax player. Really adds to them. I like the order in which the performers went on (Limahl, then Tony Lewis, then Modern English, then Belinda Carlisle, then ABC) except I would have wanted to see Belinda last. As great as ABC was, I knew 6 - 7 of their 10 songs as opposed to knowing all 9 of Belinda's songs, and I viewed her as the bigger draw. Maybe she needed to leave early, or she helped them out 'cause they were running late. Don't know. It worked out alright. But I was surprised when Belinda went on after Modern English, I'm sure others were too. This show would be phenomenal if you could get The Fixx in there, maybe a few others, but.... I'm not complaining. 34 tunes in all (Limahl - 5, Tony Lewis - 5, Modern English - 5, Belinda Carlisle - 9, ABC - 10), almost every one excellent ("Circle in the Sand," although a great song, is a RADIO song and just doesn't do it live (for me anyway)). Would do this again in a heartbeat. Not having to drive to New York, pay tolls, parking, drink minimum charges, possible food? Save myself $100 (possibly literally)? DONE!
