    still lovin' the 80's

by JimmyF99 on 8/5/18Bergen Performing Arts Center - Englewood

Hey all. Went to this show and it didn't disappoint. All the acts were good, Modern English and ABC were especially good because in both of those cases, it was the whole band that was there, not just the lead singer. The other three acts, as good as they were, would have been better with their old bands there, or at least a few members of them. It makes a difference. I would still probably say Belinda Carlisle was the star of the show, but I was really impressed with Modern English and will check out their musical catalog very soon. ABC was also a great band with a phenomenal sax player. Really adds to them. I like the order in which the performers went on (Limahl, then Tony Lewis, then Modern English, then Belinda Carlisle, then ABC) except I would have wanted to see Belinda last. As great as ABC was, I knew 6 - 7 of their 10 songs as opposed to knowing all 9 of Belinda's songs, and I viewed her as the bigger draw. Maybe she needed to leave early, or she helped them out 'cause they were running late. Don't know. It worked out alright. But I was surprised when Belinda went on after Modern English, I'm sure others were too. This show would be phenomenal if you could get The Fixx in there, maybe a few others, but.... I'm not complaining. 34 tunes in all (Limahl - 5, Tony Lewis - 5, Modern English - 5, Belinda Carlisle - 9, ABC - 10), almost every one excellent ("Circle in the Sand," although a great song, is a RADIO song and just doesn't do it live (for me anyway)). Would do this again in a heartbeat. Not having to drive to New York, pay tolls, parking, drink minimum charges, possible food? Save myself $100 (possibly literally)? DONE!

Without any mention of politics or whining about today's music, Retro Futura highlighted the best of the 80s which was the fun. The music held up and the acts are inspired. Don't disappear, no don't disappear.

ABC only played 45-50 min set should have played longer if they were headliner

    Great show

by terminator35 on 7/31/18The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

Very good experience. All performers were excellent and it was nice to see so many of them together, many of which almost never perform near my home. Everyone played every song you would expect to hear from them and I was very impressed with the band backing Annabella, Limahl and Tony Lewis which had to play music from 3 different bands and also allowed a very fast pace with no downtime between the first 3 performances. Modern English, Belinda Carlisle and ABC were also excellent. If you are a fan of our greatest musical decade you must go to this show. Also one of the best overall crowd experiences I have ever had at any concert I have been to, which is too many to even remember. Strangers were all talking, dancing and singing to each other throughout the whole show. I have never seen a more interactive crowd at any other concert.

    Even BETTER than I expected!!!

by Marrrrrrrr on 7/31/18The Wiltern - Los Angeles

Seeing this show reinforced how much fun this music is! It brought back amazing memories of dancing at the clubs and loving the music I grew up with. It was wonderful to see each performer and theyactually sounded as good as they did in the 80's. When ABC performed, I was so impressed with their style, professionalism, talent & beautiful energy. They really captured it. What a night!

A fair sequel to last year

by MUTANTPRESS on 7/31/18The Wiltern - Los Angeles

The consensus was on the Metro ride back that last years show was superior to this one. For one, it was at the Greek Theater. The Wiltern is a bit run down and my seat has broken springs. ABC was the best followed by Modern English. But the other acts were one hit wonders at best. No English Beat or Howard Jones caliber of acts. For $13.00 it was a good deal, to be sure. But not great.

The bands were as good as you would expect, but the sound was flat. The Mezzanine was not a good choice for this venue.

    A slice of the 80s

by Bartman1969 on 7/31/18The Wiltern - Los Angeles

Purchased tickets at the last minute and was expecting a rush through of their most popular songs. I was pleasantly surprised at the content of the show. Well worth the time and money.

    ABC rocks!

by lovemyproxy on 7/31/18The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

I am such a fan of the band ABC and they didn't and never disappoint, other than I could have listened and watched them longer. Everyone was fun to watch. This is the second time I have seen Modern English and they were just as exciting. Belinda is fun and smooth with all her hits and some Go-go hits. I wanted to see Llimah and was very happy to hear and see him. Hope he has some new music in the future. Annabella is adorable and sang her fun hits. Tony Lewis was electrifying. Retro Futuro is one of the best ways to watch your favorite 80's bands live. I look forward to more of these concerts year after year.

by TimX on 7/31/18The Wiltern - Los Angeles

What a great tour! All acts were amazing. Stand outs were Modern English and ABC. This 3 hour show was worth every penny! I go to many concerts though out the year and this one was a highlight!

Great show. Relived 80s. Belinda Carlyle looked and sounded great, and ABC was amazing. All of the others were still great.

Pretty Good - ABC and Modern English ROCKED!

by 80sMiles on 7/29/18The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

So we were stoked to go to this year's Retro Futura as we went to last years and were BLOWN AWAY! This year, looking at the line-up, we were excited but not as stoked with the bands that were going this time around. Of the 6 bands, 2 rocked the joint (one band shamed us because we didn't know all the words to their songs saying we seemed bummed out). That being said, we were glad we went, enjoyed ourselves, and are looking forward to next year. Let's hope that the line-up will have the same chemistry as 2017!

    One Hit Wonders

by tscnel on 7/29/18The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

Forgetting that the 80s provided mostly one hit wonders, the concert was not enough. Belinda Carlile and ABC were really good. The other bands, in my mind, should have only played their one hit song and moved on. Over all it was okay, but Belinda and ABC should consider doing a concert with just themselves.

    Blast From the Past

by TJRT on 7/29/18The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

This was a fun evening at the Orange County Fair! The first three acts (singers for BowWow Wow, the Outfield & Kajagoogoo) tried hard but it was still daylight and you had a somewhat apathetic crowd. Both Belinda Carlisle and ABC did awsome sets! Good times...
