REEL BIG FISH IN CONCERT:
For more than two decades, California ska punk favorites Reel Big Fish have had audiences moving, shaking, and skanking up a storm with their upbeat tunes and fun-loving live shows. The band's adrenaline-filled take on traditional ska always whips fans into a frenzy, and frontman Aaron Barrett feeds off the crowd's energy as he performs catchy favorites like "Sell Out" and "Monkey Man". From Barrett's zany style and the band's brass-heavy sound to the friendly moshpit in the crowd, Reel Big Fish deliver an unforgettable concert experience fans of high-energy ska punk won't want to miss.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Reel Big Fish formed in Huntington Beach, CA in 1991 and quickly achieved popularity as part of the third wave ska movement that took the US by storm in the early '90s. After several years of playing local shows the band self-released their 1995 debut album Everything Sucks. Fans and critics embraced the album wholeheartedly, and before long the band had signed to Mojo Records. They released their sophomore album Turn the Radio Off in 1996 and scored their first hit with the single "Sell Out", an insanely catchy tune that received heavy airplay on MTV and stayed on the Billboard charts for a whopping 32 weeks. The band underwent various lineup changes in the '00s, but frontman Aaron Barrett remained a constant, leading the band on several tours during the decade including the 2008 Vans Warped Tour. In 2014 the band thrilled fans with not one release but two -- their ninth full length Bloody Street and an EP of holiday tunes titled Happy Skalidays.
I loved this show. The Venue is great. It is very big, which meant the floor was wide open for skanking. And they offered free water all night.
Great bands.. Great Venue.. Great crowd. Great Vibe all around.
As far as ska shows go this has been by far my favorite. All three bands have great stage presence. Though I came really just to see Reel Big Fish and The English Beat and did not have high hopes for The Supervillians, I was pleasantly surprised by their music and performance. Overall one of the best shows I've seen this year.
The show was awesome, The English Beat rocked it hard, might have been alittle too long for my tastes. The crowd was positive but aton of older people came out to see them play. RBF was awesome. They had some great jokes with Lady Gaga who happened to be there. Definitely would go again!
All three bands which played last night were very, very tight. The Supervillains played a short but tight set which revved the crowd up. The English Beat played very well, in spite of being the odd band out at this ska-punk outing. Reel Big Fish, as always, played a very high energy set, and ended the night with a bang.
This was everything you want from a ska show. All three acts were fun and enjoyable. The Supervillains blasted their stoner-ska sound, which isn't for me but a lot of people enjoyed it. English Beat sounded phenomenal. Reel Big Fish were awesome as always.
All three a hit. Aaron was right on. Only missed one note, but he knew it. Voices were spot on
The venue was great and the opening and main act were even better. Jolly good time
they were aiight. english beat was AWESOME. supervillains were annoying, and RBF never disapoints.
This show was a good time, old time ska hasn't died as long as the English Beat is still playing, sounding as solid as ever and keeping the audience entertained. The Reel Big Fish showcased their strong musical talent, but the between and in-song dialogue between the band is getting a bit old after 2 years. Overall though a great show, I would recommend this show.
