About

As one of the pivotal performers in the neotraditional country movement, Randy Travis has been one of the groundbreaking singer/songwriters of his generation, bringing country music back to its grassroots heritage and veering it away from the more-commercialized, pop-influenced “Nashville sound” of the late 1960s and 1970s. His traditional light-baritone voice and straight-from-the-heart style harkens back to the classic country of decades ago, but with a decidedly contemporary sound. Ticket holders enthuse over the pure-country vibe of his concerts, which feature a mix of fan favorites, evergreen classics and new original works. In performance, Travis has a sincere, low-key style that invites comparisons to legendary performers such as Hank Williams. As you watch him perform, you get the feeling that you're watching a true legend, a singer's singer whose performance style encapsulates the best of an entire musical genre. With dozens of Billboard-charting singles and multi-platinum albums, Travis has been one of the most influential singers of his era, and his most recent album,  Influence, Vol. 1: The Man I Am  pays tribute to the mentors who inspired him.

In the mid-1980s, Travis recorded his great breakthrough album,  Storms of Life, which sold millions of copies and featured the hit singles “On the Other Hand” and “Diggin’ Up Bones.” A string of hit songs followed, including “I Told You So” and “Forever and Ever, Amen” (his best-known single). During the late 1990s, Travis turned his interests to gospel music, but in 2008, he returned to secular music in a big way with his album  Around the Bend, which he later recorded as a chart-topping duet with Carrie Underwood. The decade also garnered major awards for Travis, including a No. 24 ranking on CMT’s “40 Greatest Men of Country Music.” In 2009, Travis released  I Told You So: The Ultimate Hits of Randy Travis, and two years later released his  Anniversary Celebration.  His latest album, Influence, features covers made popular by mentors such as Ernest Tubb, Waylon Jennings and Lefty Frizzell.

In July 2013, Travis was hospitalized with viral cardiomyopathy; this was followed by a stroke, which necessitated brain surgery. In spite of conflicting reports about his health, it was recently announced that he’ll be starring in an upcoming  movie, “Christmas on the Bayou,” for Lifetime. While it's not known when he'll perform again, his fans are hopeful that the iconic singer will be able to embark on another concert tour sometime in the near future.

    Awesome, very emotional show

    by Ed on 8/28/23

Attended the Aug 25th show in Sugar Loaf (Chester), NY. It was so great to see Randy and Mary up front on stage the entire show. James Dupre did a fantastic job singing Randy's songs. Had a hard time not to realize it wasn't Randy actually singing. He was so spot-on. The background videos showing Randy's life were great. Mary's heartfelt thank you to all involved, band and fans, was very emotional. To see Randy interacting with the band, James and the fans was great. He looked like he was having a great time sharing his songs and his life with us. And James' young daughter owned the show with her song. God bless Randy and Mary and may you have the strength to continue what you are doing!

    Totally Unexpected

    by Anny on 8/28/23

Long time Randy Travis fan. Whilst I knew about his stroke I didn’t realize he was still so incapacitated. This show was one of a kind. Narrated by his angel of a wife, Mary, with his legendary songs performed by the talented performer, James Dupre, along with Randy’s loyal band members, all to a backdrop of his life and videos. His brilliant smile and interaction with those who shared the stage and the audience never wavered throughout the show. I was entertained, moved, overwhelmed and transported via memory to happy places when a younger me so enjoyed this man’s talent. Never before have I attended a concert where the headliner sang only one word, and yet, I so thoroughly enjoyed this experience. Amen

    by Joe PAL on 8/28/23

Randy Travis concert Sugar Loaf NY was such an amazing experience! I’ve been a Randy Travis fan since I’m a kid and seeing Him in person was great. James Dupree did a phenomenal job covering his songs. I’m hoping to see Randy Travis coming to the area again soon if hopefully I’ll see Him when I’m traveling in Nashville. It was that great of a show!

    disappointed

by country music fan on 8/27/23

When we purchased two tickets for the Randy Travis concert we had no idea that he has aphasia and cannot communicate, and our first inkling was the living room setup of furniture on stage, with a small keyboard on the left side of the stage. Show opened with a radio host from Albany asking if we were excited to hear RT music. YES!! And then someone who was introduced as a bar singer came out to play five of his songs on the keyboard while the audience was asked to sing along. He then thanked us for being the opening act. This was followed by a couple who sang a few songs, and then RT and his wife took the stage and sat in the chairs with the radio guy from Albany. It was very sad to see RT walk slowly across the stage with his wife, who proceeded to explain his medical issues and aphasia. RT didn’t, and now we know he couldn’t, speak. A bit over a half hour of her answering questions and the previous couple singing one other song, and we left. Told at the exit that there was 30 minutes left to the show. I’m a full time caregiver for my husband, my son purchased these pricey tickets to take me to see Randy for a fun night of country music. And we drove two hours each way to attend. We didn’t get what we expected, and while my heart breaks for Randy and his wife , I feel we should have been told at the point of ticket sale what to expect. Very misleading and disappointing.

    Great Show!

    by Cara on 8/1/23

My family and I thought it was all great! We loved that we got to see Randy through the whole show. James Dupre did an amazing job of covering his songs, yet didn't try to steal the show. We liked the videos that played in the background to reminice. We liked how his wife interacted with the band, stage crew, etc, welcomed and thanked the fans. The only thing we maybe would have liked to know what was there would not be an intermission. We weren't about to get up and leave! But we maybe would have gotten our drinks ahead of time if we'd known. Otherwise it was all arranged very well!

    Sad experience

    by CarmelWillie on 7/26/23

The band was spot on country-incredible. I was just disappointed and would have preferred Randy's recorded voice rather than listening to a tribute singer. Felt like RT was being exploited by his wife. I left very early.

    Amazing and Memorable Concert!

    by Karen on 7/25/23

My husband and I saw Randy Travis quite a few times in the early 1990's and always enjoyed his concerts. Many years have passed, of course, but the opportunity came up to see him again at the Brown County Music Center in Nashville, Indiana on July 22, 2023. We have known that Randy isn't able to sing due to his stroke, but what a thrill it was to see him with his wife, Mary, who were on stage during the entire concert! James Dupre, who is the guest vocalist for Randy, did a phenomenal job and his voice fits perfectly for singing Randy's songs! And to see all of his original band members still touring with them - LOVED IT! The video clips they show throughout the concert of Randy's life and highlights during his career were really cool to see and gave a great perspective of his rise to fame and life for him and his family currently. For Randy to still go out and tour from city to city to be part of the "More Life"Tour is pretty amazing and we are thankful that he is still with us to enjoy it all! I am so glad we got to see Randy again - yes, it wasn't in the same way we saw him years ago - but it was an emotional and lovely night and I was honored and blessed to be in the audience that night and to celebrate him and his contributions to country music. Thank you, Randy, for all of the wonderful memories over the years and adding more memories for us to have from last Saturday's concert!

    Bummer

    by Anonymous on 7/25/23

The fact that Mary’s microphone kept messing up through the entire show, and it never being replaced before Randy sung Amen and Amazing Grace was such a let down. You couldn’t hear half of what Mary said and Randy is already soft spoken. The microphone should have been replaced after the 2nd time of it messing up. James did an amazing job representing Randy’s music!

    A Beautiful Heartwarming Experience!

    by Wilma on 7/25/23

We did not know what to expect when we purchased the tickets. But between James, his little girl, Randy’s band, AND seeing the enjoyment in Randy and his wife - Well, what can I say, but “Above and Beyond”! Amazing Grace was beautifully sung as the closing song.

    Randy Travis in Style

by Morning Show Mama on 7/25/23

This show was presented in the most tasteful manner! A wonderful timeline of Randy’s life and career! James Dupre is a wonderful vocalist that gave Travis’s music a life of its own! Randy and Mary were incredible hosts for the evening and made us all feel that we were in their living room. James 3 year old daughter was precious with her vocals and enthusiasm. Randy’s smile said it all! So happy we could be there!

    Misnamed

    by Disappointment on 7/25/23

While the music was good, it wasn’t a Randy Travis concert. I understand that he can no longer sing, but him and his wife sitting on stage doesn’t make it a Randy Travis concert. James Dupre did a good job but I thought the concert was advertised wrong.

    Misleading concert promotion

by Feeling a bit duped on 7/25/23

I was aware Randy Travis experienced a severe stroke about 10 years ago, but based on how the concert was promoted I had assumed he had recovered. The show was promoted as "The More Life Tour starring Randy Travis". And while he was there, he was not starring in a show by any stretch of the imagination. My heart goes out to him and his wife, it's clear that he is still suffering significant disabilities as a result of the stroke he experienced. And while the story of how they found the replacement singer - James Dupree. And he was a good singer, he's fine, but he's no where close to the sound of Randy Travis. Unlike Journey where Arnel Pineda is a ringer for Steve Perry - close your eyes and it is just like the original. That's not the case with James. It was sadly a tribute to Randy Travis and definitely not starring. They should correct their marketing and I would have probably felt differently.
