I thought that the show was good. The DJ's were a GREAT flash back to the 80's. I liked all of the performances. However, I was GREATLY disappointed that Rakim was rushed and he was the headliner! I think the time management should have been handled a little better so that he had the opportunity to give a complete performance. Who knows the next time he will grace a stage, it has already been years!

The concert was off the hook! If it was there tonight I'd be going again. I enjoyed watch them just as much as I did back in the day. Wish Rahkim had more time to do his thing . Lady B was the perfect host and the. Crowd was great!

Great if you love old school hip hop

by Trogers25 on 1/17/12Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

Great Show overall....Big DaddyKane and Doug E. Fresh were AMAZING!!!! The show took a 15 minute intermission between Whodini and Rakim, unfortunately the energy was lost so by the time Rakim took the stage people were leaving. Also, the TV screens at the front of the stage were in very poor condition and hardly worked. For $75 a ticket i would have expected them to work.

    All Stars of Hip Hop

by sxychocl8 on 1/17/12Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

This was suppose to be a all stars hip hop get it popping type concert, uggggh. Some of the performers were so wack that I just sat down all night waiting for the next performance. I believe it was the mic system, because they sounded horrible, performed horrible and the stage set up was so amateur. The screens need to be bigger so that you can see the performers clearly. One of the screen trons kept going in and out all night!!!!

Great show but the headliner is ALL WRONG!

by Ayesis on 1/17/12Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

Rakim should NOT be the headliner for this show! Doug E. Fresh, Slick Rick, and Big Daddy Kane KILLED it.... next to their performances, Rakim was disappointing.

    Rakim was the truth!!!

by Firm on 12/10/11The Norva - Norfolk

Professional, lyrically potent, gave a good catalog of his hits, made the show interesting beyond just a normal rap show. One of the true legends who has earned that status both on records & live performances.

    Rakim @ The Norva

    by Dee131231 on 12/1/11The Norva - Norfolk

Ra showed up nearly 3 hours late, which seems to be typical for artists nowadays. I went to see Jazmine Sullivan and Jill Scott and they both pulled the same stunt. Anyway, after he finally took the stage, he did the 'I'll sing one verse and hold the mic out so the crowd can sing a verse' thing. A little of that is okay, but he over did it. I didn't pay my money to come hear the crowd! The "performance" was pretty weak to say the least. Another thing I can't get with is how artists like to have their friends\family\groupies or whatever hang out on the stage while they perform. He had his wife and aunt (?) and some other people standing up there while the "show" was going on. I see that with a lot of artists these days and it just shows a lack of professionalism to me. People PAY to see a "show", give them a "show"! l left the show (if you can call it that) pissed because I got there on time and wound up leaving early. There were others leaving too when I left. I'm still a fan, but on CD only. I won't be paying good money to see him in concert again. I hope Ra doesn't believe the hype and feel like he can give less than 100% on a regular basis. The Norva is a very small venue and it was far from being sold out.Yeah, the die-hard fanas are going to show up no matter what, but put some effort into putting on a show and you'll pack the house. Everyone knows the material is dope, but the delivery is lacking.

    Rakim was awesome!!!

    by Shauny80 on 11/29/11The Norva - Norfolk

When Rakim FINALLY got there, he rocked the crowd. It was great to hear hoes hip hop from a legend. I didn't care for the group performing. The cypher was cool. It was just too much of a delay...show was supposed to start at 7 but started closer to 10. The two guys on the Mic were awful...well one was. His jokes were corny and rude.

Above Average MC puts on an average show

by DieselJames on 11/29/11The Norva - Norfolk

Rakim did his best trying to straddle between his new material and his classic work. The openers were OK at best. The DJs who went on between sets were really good. But the crowd was pretty impatient after 3 hours of openers, DJs and the comedian host (MC?)

    Took too long

    by NYC1949 on 11/29/11The Norva - Norfolk

Rakim didn't go on stage until about 10PM, and finished about 11PM!!! I arrived at The Norva around 6:20P.M. I thought the show would start at about 7PM, and Rakim would begin not long thereafter. However, the opening acts, DJ B, DJ Stress, the MC, a comedian and other local rappers, were filling the time until Rakim came on stage to perform. The comedian stated that Rakim took the Chinese bus from NYC and would be there soon. When Rakim finally came on stage, he also stated that the Chinese bus was late. I wasn't sure if that was true or not. I asked one of The Norva staffers why Rakim didn't come onto stage yet, and he said, "artists think that the world revolves around them, therefore, they can show up for a performance whenever they get ready"!! If that's true, what about the fans who paid money for see/hear them perform?? I was thinking about leaving instead of waiting for Rakim to eventually show up, but I decided to wait-it-out. The advertisement/promotion ads/ticket said 7PM, not 10PM (3 hours), for the main artist to begin his/her show. I've been to several venues in the past, and have never experienced a performer(s) starting 3 hours after the time on the ticket(s)!! Rakim's performance was okay, but nothing to brag or tell other people about.. I'm not blaming The Norva, but that was my first time attrending an event there.

    Rakim Moves The Crowd

by WordEpic on 11/30/09B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

Although Rakim took a while to enter the stage, he made up with a great stage show incorporated with Technician The DJ who (in my opinion) couldn't have done it better. Their interaction seemed natural and not forced at all. Rhyme Fest opened up and won the crowd over with personality and veteran presence. I'd definitely check him again.

    Rakim is back!

by martillo on 11/4/09House of Blues Houston - Houston

The opening act, the DJ before the featured entertainer, as well as the DJ with the entertainer himself were all great. Especially, the DJ prior to the performance to get everyone hype before the grand finale due to the lame repeated music the room was playing before and between acts. The opening act brought people together dispite the poor organization of the room itself. I paid for seats located on the balcony, not standing room only. The DJ did an excellent job dispite the sound booth shortcomings. Fortunately, it was a great performance/show, because the venue was lacking structure. I would have given the show five stars if it wasn't for the venue's issues: timing, unorganized, & late in responding to the acts' needs.
