About

Cirque du Soleil invites you to Zarkana, a beautifully bizarre journey premiering exclusively at Radio City Music Hall. This epic spectacle takes audiences into a fantastical and suspenseful world where highly-acrobatic feats are heightened by original live music and interactive multimedia elements. Zarkana transforms the grandest stage in the world into a world of unreality as only Cirque du Soleil could imagine.
Directed by the internationally acclaimed François Girard (The Red Violin, Silk), this new production features 71 international artists and follows Zark, a magician on a quest to find his lost powers. He finds himself plunged into a world inhabited by surreal and mesmerizing creatures. The music of Zarkana is composed by Nick Littlemore, a protégé of Sir Elton John.

    Fun

by BelleLea on 9/15/11Radio City Music Hall - New York City

Zarkana was my third Cirque show so I had Mystere and Love to compare it too. So far Mystere is still my favorite. Zarkana was fun and exciting but if I didn't read about it first, I wouldn't know What was going on. The lyrics were ambiguous and the tricks were average. Nonetheless the dancers and actors were great. You can tell they worked hard and are very good. I love Cirque for being bright, imaginative, and spectacular. So it delivered.

    Zarkana - Fair

by Anonymous on 8/22/11Radio City - New York

Zarkana was my first Cirque experience. I was most impressed by the production elements. The creators however sacrificed the fun of a circus for ritzy production elements and a story. I DID NOT understand a word the principal "protagonists" sang. It would have been best had they spoken their lines. In parts, there were elements of really good fun and acrobatics. The performers worked very hard to their credit. This production was simply not my cup of tea.

    eh

by drifter631 on 8/18/11radio city music hall - new york

this was definitely the worst cirque ive ever been to. the story didnt make any sense and was confusing. at the half time i had to look it up on my phone to see what it was about. the acts were all pretty forgettable for a cirque except one or two and the use of bad animation cheapens the experience even more. also the tickets were really expensive for the seats. i dont think this show was meant for such a large venue

A nice start to the epic Cirque Shows

by desolate03 on 8/13/11Radio City - New York

I really enjoyed this show. It was my first one and I wasn't disappointed at all. I was really fascinated with the stage design as well as the costume design. For some there might not have been enough WOW factor with the stunts and things, but I enjoyed it.

Simple Magic Tricks with an Occasional WOW factor.

by Nickey1890 on 8/8/11Radio City Music Hall - New York

I was sitting in the 2nd Level (Mezzanine), 2nd row, center -- had a GREAT view! PROS: -Costumes / Makeup was awesome -Singers were EXCELLENT!!! -Performers are in the Lobby when you walk in if you want to take pictures, some are performing -the occasional WOW factor -- E.g. four guys were on each others shoulders (stacked up) balancing on a tight rope -- dont know the heck they did that!!! -Show started EXACTLY on time. -20 Min intermission CONS: -Mostly simple magic tricks -No story line... The story was the "leader" was looking for his long lost love and trying to find her comes across all these magic tricks and people. Didnt know this until I read the show booklet that I bought though... Theres no actual story line throughout the show. -Some of the acts are kind of simple and boring. E.g. there is a flag scene where they do not really do anything too exciting. OVERALL: I expected a little more from the show!!! I feel that it is perceived to be MORE than what it actually is.. children would definitely enjoy the show!! (there are clowns too which are interactive with the audience)

    scaling is everything

by piedpiper570 on 8/4/11Radio City Music Hall - nyc

i've been an avid fan for many years dating back to 1991. i've come to understand one of their greatest gifts is their ability to fill a space. Delirium was the perfect example, the video projections brought a grandness that made you feel like you were in thier tent. At the time i was blown away by that then i saw Ka which took that grand concept to a whole new level. then came Zarkana which paled in comparison it was as if they were stumped as to how to create an environment that could overcome the grandness of radio city music hall i feel they missed the mark the stage seemed to eat up the acts there was no intimacy it seemed as if they were fighting to fill the stage. the videos and set designs were awesome everything i've come to expect from them the sound i thought was constrained i didn't breathe or have depth real presence in the low end . I set center section 4th row 2nd mezz basically same seating distance as delirium which i saw at msg. If your a newbie to the cirque experience you won't be disappointed, i have to remind myself that the acts are the acts ie: jugglers and etc. so i really look forward to how they present it to keep it fresh for me having seen at least 10 of their shows i must say i maybe a little spoiled.

    Zarkana

by musicmann1 on 8/3/11Radio City - New York

This was fabulous, no mistakes just sheer class. We loved everything about it I am 63 and it was 2 of the best hours of my life. Don't understand the poor reviews at all. would love to see it again. Mind you I am a great fan of Cirque, but my wife who isn't was delighted with the performance. The venue is excellent too. The visual effects are great too, there is so much going on you will need more than 2 eyes !

    A little disappointing...

by Shre on 7/30/11Radio City Music Hall - New York City

When you go to a Cirque show, you have grander expectations. Zarkana just did not match up to expectations. If you have seen any other Cirque show, you should avoid this as you will be disappointed. For people who have never seen a Cirque show, you might like it as this would be your baseline.... Detailed review: Overall feel: The show was not very cohesive. IT seemed like a bunch of tricks and acts you have seen on TV in different forms. It was supposed to be tied together by the concept of magician and had some Broadway-esque elements. However, that was not what I expected from Zarkana. Singing and lyrics are good to have, but they cannot replace the soul of a Cirque show. There were clowns who would come to the stage more often than you desired. Sometimes they were funny, sometimes they were not. In the end, it seemed like a congregation of 10 "as-seen-on-TV" tricks with some songs in between. Performance quality: Acts were in general of a high quality as expected - but there were a few misses too. Actually - there were at least 5 goof ups that I noticed in the act: The juggler dropped balls twice (something I have never seen on stage in any live show). There was a guy hopping on the balloon and the balloon burst. When the rope-walkers were performing, the chair fell off the rope. A trapeze artist missed a swing and fell on the net. Some of the acts were great in concept though. Even though the juggler dropped twice, it was the most novel act of juggling I have seen. The Russian balancing board act was fantastic as well. Music, Video and Lights: The music for the act was good. In some cases it was too loud though. Lighting was excellent as expected. Video was exceptional. I have never seen an act where video is so tightly integrated into the performance. It definitely covered for some of the mediocrity of the act - but then could not compensate for all of it. Radio City Music Hall is excellent - one of the best in NYC. The hall is huge. You are ok with Orchestra seats towards the end as well (saves a few dollars). If you want to spend the extra Benjamin to get the best seats in house - believe me, it's not worth it.

    Not worth the money

by Goodfellasforall on 7/13/11Radio City - NYC

The show was not as good as other Cirque's. It was very disconnected from one act to the next. The clowns were more annoying than funny.

    Best Cirque Show Out!

by youlovediana on 6/30/11Radio City Music Hall - New York, NY

Absolutely loved Zarkana! I'm a fan of straightforward musical theatre and don't normally like the avant garde, but this was PHENOMENAL. I was transformed into their world from the first moments of the show. GO GO GO see it while it is still in New York. For a jaded New Yorker like me to have been wowed means that it was definitely something spectacular. My only warning: do NOT attempt the stunts at home! They look so effortless - I wanted to try jumping around in my basement!

I'm a cirque member and this by far was the best Cirque that I have seen and I've seen about 13 shows so far!!!! The acrobatics were amazing as well as a lot of the other parts of the show. The costumes were very interesting and the show in general was just great!

    Mixed Feelings

by Seel on 6/29/11Radio City Music Hall - New York

The show is visually stunning. Great sets and costumes. But this time Cirque du Soleil got overambitious in trying to make a rock opera the center of the show and it distracted from the performance. For starters, it was really too loud. I mean... I've been to shows and rock concerts and I thought the decibel level was just too great for the venue. Secondly, the lyrics and the story were, frankly, kind of lame. There were six of us and we all agreed that had they been singing in a mythical language (since it was a mythical setting), it would have been more enjoyable. Then there were the acts. Too few of the really powerful and jaw dropping acts you come to associate with Cirque du Soleil. There were a few that were outstanding - the trapeze artists, the acrobats and the high wire acts. But that's three acts out of how many? Some of the numbers were much too busy so you couldn't figure out where to focus your eyes. Now, having said that... as usual, the clowns were really fun and awesome and they held the show together. Altogether the show was fun and visually stunning but just not enough of the kinds of acts you expect and too many distractions for me. However, I think if you were taking kids to it, they would love it and you certainly would be entertained, just maybe not "wowed".

    Zarkana is high enery fun

by fly121 on 6/28/11Radio City Music Hall - New York

It was very good. The story is about a magician and an abdonded Broadway theatre and bringing the magic back to it. Most of the acts we have seen in other shows but they had a little more creativity and were more complex. Clown acts need some work. The singer Garou has an unique voice which is wonderful. They also had a couple Spiderman inuendos that were funny. Sit as close to the stage as you can.
