PUBLIC ENEMY IN CONCERT:

Hip hop pioneers and modern day rap legends Public Enemy are still bringing the noise, nearly three decades after establishing themselves as "Public Enemy No. 1" with their 1987 debut single. Flavor Flav and crew had game then and they got game now, keeping classic rap alive as they continue to 'scream vocal javelins' at the right enemies and innovate on the one's and two's. Following their 2013 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Public Enemy will "Fight the Power" on their 2014 tour dates, including a highly anticipated appearance at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Where would the rap game be without the power and profundity of Long Island's Public Enemy? Formed in the early '80s by MC Chuck D and his irascible hype-man Flavor Flav, the group set out to add a political message to the aggressive style of hip hop made famous by Run DMC. Joined by MC Professor Griff and DJ Terminator X, Public Enemy ascended to astronomical heights with 1988 sophomore album It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back. The record, anchored by the single "Don't Believe the Hype" became the first hip hop album to gain mainstream recognition, landing at No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The rest is history.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Hands down top 3 hip hop shows I have ever seen! AWESOME!"

"Excellent concert! High energy and Public Enemy KILLED IT!

"That was a great show to be able to watch, I love that hip hop is alive and well...Chuck D is an amazing MC, the way he hosted the show and showed the local talent so much love was one of the best feeling I got this year at a show."

Public Enemy, Don't believe the hype!!

by MellyMell on 8/13/10Chameleon Club - Lancaster

P.E. is my favorite of all time. So many good memories growing up listening and truly FEELING their message. Chuck was outstanding, as always. Flav really is a good performer and nice person. Drummer and bass guitarmen were off the hook. Steppers never missed a beat. I had the BEST time of my life.

I've been to lots of concerts where the sound was not great, but this really set a new low standard. Was the sound guy deaf ???

    Great Show

by renton44 on 8/10/10House of Blues Boston - Boston

One of the best concerts I have ever seen. The entire band was great and had such amazing energy. Chuck D still has 'that voice' and was an incredible stage presence. Flavor Flav is ONE amazing entertainer, nothing like any antics seen on tv, in person he is something else and that is NOT a bad thing at all. That man can play some serious drums! They had Professor Griff and DJ Lord providing the beats and some back up vocals. The SW1s were present (as usual) and they had a backing band (drums, bass and guitar, all three musicians quite accomplished at their craft). Public Enemy will give you your money's worth as they are on stage for over two hours.

    PUBLIC ENEMY #1

by Dopadelic on 6/30/10House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

I loved the show. This was my 6th concert at the House of Blues (Cleveland) this year. This was my first time seeing P.E. live (I'm 30 years old) and they played everything that I wanted to hear. It helped that everyone (Griff, Chuck, S1W, Flav) was there and that Flava Flav walked around the facility just like he was one of the fans. Flav is known for being able to play instruments and I was pumped when he started to play the drums. They played songs that we love but never expect to hear in concert like Brotha's Gonna Work It Out and Black Steel in the Hour Of Chaos. They opened with Brotha's gonna work it out. Before the show I told my brother that that was my favorite P.E. song and we bother looked at each other like "they'll never play that" and when they opened with it I had already gotten my money's worth. I also appreciated hearing DJ LORD get a set. WHAT I LIKED THE MOST is that Chuck D knew Cleveland. He knew what we liked, what we stand for, and how we respond to artists that come to Cleveland. We aren't like other cities that cheer because you show up. We want a show. It takes a lot to move Cleveland and I think that most artist dread coming here because of that. Favorite moment is when Chuck D showed love to the city of Cleveland and gave us knowledge about the way a hip hop artist is supposed to show love when they perform.

    PE was in Full Effect

by BlackErick on 6/28/10House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

I have been to concerts from DMB to Earth, Wind, and Fire and from Aerosmith to Funkadelic and this may have been THE BEST! The emergy and quality was the best. Always helps that it is at HOB too! My only "regret" (for lack of a better word) was that Terminator X wasn't there!

everyone on stage was in pretty good form. flav went off on his own tangent a couple times (seemingly high off his reality show fame) that clearly annoyed chuck and griff, but all in all it was a great show. flav is cool, but the star was clearly chuck d and his mad skills, style, and message. i love this dude and what he is all about! keep on preachin' it chuck!

Public Enemy rocked the House of Blues

by JKroger on 6/28/10House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

I attended the Public Enemy show last night at the House of Blues in Cleveland. I drove 3 hours to do so and let me tell you it was worth every mile! A 2 hour set filled with favorites that never failed to disappoint. They kicked off the show with the first several songs from 'Fear of a Black Planet', and followed that up with pretty much every song that everyone wanted to hear. One thing that I loved was that they were backed up by an actual band. Yes, bass, drums, and a DJ. It totally rocked. What a great show. They really connect with their fans.

PE, old school at it's best

by LCBJ on 11/20/09Lisner Auditorium - Washington

It was a cool concert. They played the movie (documentary filmed by young people, I can't remember the name) before the concert, that got a little old after a while. But the concert was good. It was the 1st time my wife or I had seen them perform. We are around 50 and thought we'd be the oldest people there but, we were wrong :-), there was a lot of 'older' people there. And the crowd was very diverse. It's a good thing we knew a lot of the lyrics cause the sound system wasn't the best but, all and all we had a great time. The only thing that would have made it better for us, would have been if it was held on a Fri or Sat night, it was hard getting up for work on Thursday.

    Way better than expected!

    by bricker4ever on 11/19/09Lisner Auditorium - Washington

I went expecting a dumbed down version of PE, but they were in full effect! Everyone from Professor Grif, to Chuck D to Flava Flav to the S1W's. Terminator X was not there, BUT and that is a big BUT, his replacement was absolutely phenomenal. I have never seen anyone spin records as good as that guy.

    PE crazy!

by Anonymous on 11/19/09Lisner Auditorium - Washington

GREATEST CONCERT EVER!!! Chuck and Flav are the GREATEST! They did it all - the oldest, the newest, the greatest hits. And they really had a lot of fun with it. All this for a good cause - eliminating youth homelessness. And as always, Chuck preached wisdom about the importance of education. Professor Griff, DJ Lord, and the S1Ws also rocked the house! THANK YOU PUBLIC ENEMY!

    Weak in all respects

by BBCDC on 11/19/09Lisner Auditorium - Washington

Lame. Not tight musically, not tight theatrically. Flava Flav seems to be all about...Flava Flav. Flav's and Chuck D's attempts to encourage the audience to broader engagement were poorly-constructed (encouraging a mostly-collegiate audience to "stay in school" and get their HS diplomas...) and poorly-spoken. Go see a Maceo Parker show. It's musical and tight and full of groove and craftsmanship. PE was not much that wasn't copped from James Brown and P-funk. Really loud, but really boring.
