Primus Concert Schedule

American Rock band Primus first came together in the mid-1980s, bringing fans a distinct style of Alternative Rock that wholly distinguishes them from their contemporaries. Primus' tour dates -- which include their 2017 Ambushing The Storm Tour, 2014 Primus & The Chocolate Factory Tour, and 2014 Spring Tour -- have taken the group across the globe. Their tour stops are mostly centered in the Americas but often include legs in Europe and Oceania as well. During their live shows, Primus delivers their trademark brand of rock, metal, and funk elements, laced with ridiculous lyrics sung by bassist Les Claypool (along with his legendary slap bass stylings). Their musicianship is combined with wild costumes and a sense of theater that get audiences moving and laughing in equal measure. Primus' superb musicianship and stage presence haven't gone unnoticed. Their early 1990s work, Sailing The Seas Of Cheese and Pork Soda, both went platinum. In addition, Their 1996 release, Wynona's Big Brown Beaver, and their 2013 re-release of Sailing The Seas Of Cheese both earned them Grammy nominations: Best Hard Rock Performance and Best Surround Sound Album, respectively.

Primus Background

In San Francisco, in 1984, founding member and bassist Les Claypool linked up with guitarist Todd Huth and drummer Jay Lane to form the original Primus. The lineup has gone through several changes over the years, featuring other greats like Peter Libby, Robbie Bean, Tim Wright and even temporary touring members like Buckethead and Danny Carey. Throughout every iteration, though, Primus has always had a knack for putting on stellar shows and concocting unmistakably quirky music. Primus' debut album, Frizzle Fry, garnered them some success with smaller hits like the eponymous "Frizzle Fry," "Pudding Time" and "Mr. Knowitall." They enjoyed even greater acclaim with their 1991 release, Sailing The Seas Of Cheese, which included classic singles like "Jerry Was A Race Car Driver" and "Tommy The Cat." Since their inception, Primus has released more than seven studio albums, with numerous singles gaining spots on the U.S. Alternative charts. Perhaps most enduring is Primus' legacy. The trio has always featured powerhouse musicians and eccentric vocals. Claypool's work on bass, however, redefined the role of the instrument within a rock context and provided a blueprint for the inclusion of tricky (but funky) bass licks in future works by other bands like Incubus, Korn and Limp Bizkit.

    PRIMUS at Williamsburg Waterfront

by efiore on 8/2/10The Williamsburg Waterfront - Brooklyn

The Dead Kenny G's opened the show with a twenty minute set of jazz and punk from what appeared to be a pretty talented trio of musicians. Great saxophone player, the drummer tackled xylophone and drums at the same time and good bass player holding it together. Gorgol Bordello played an hour long set of energetic gypsy punk and their fans loved them. I am unfamiliar with their music, but I left impressed with talent and charisma. Primus came on after 8, opening with "Pudding Time" followed by "Here Come the Bastards". The set was very strong with songs like "Harold of the Rocks", "American Life", "Jerry was a Racecar Driver", "Pressman". "Southbound Pachyderm" was awesome as was "Over the Electric Grapevine". Sadly, no "My Name is Mud", but when they finished their encores with "Tommy the Cat", I couldn't say I felt cheated. Beautiful outdoor venue, saw Faith No More there at the beginning of the month and this was another great show. Look forward to more concerts in this performance space.

    Beyond great

by abh807 on 8/2/10The Williamsburg Waterfront - Brooklyn

This whole show was pretty awesome, as evidenced by the massive crowd stretching all the way back to the water. The venue was pretty cool but I wish the beer tent hadn't been so far back because I wasn't going to risk losing my prime spot for a beer or water. The bands were amazing and Primus is still is churning out pure greatness. It was my first time seeing Les Claypool and I'm hooked.

    Gogol stole the show.

by Yobigfoot on 8/2/10The Williamsburg Waterfront - Brooklyn

I haven't seen Primus for years prior to this event so I was excited to get tickets. They put on a solid performance of new material as well as several classics that I was hopping to hear. Would have wished for better seating options at the venue to relax and enjoy listening to them jam. Gogol Bordello kicked butt! It was hot and sweaty and lots of jumping fun. They sounded good for an outdoor venue and the crowd enjoyed their energy. I wish the set times were adjusted a little later across the board. The entire show was over and everyone was forced out of the park before 11pm. Must have been rules of the amphitheater. All said, a fun night.

    Primus Amazing-Gogul a Drag

by Webtone on 8/2/10The Williamsburg Waterfront - Brooklyn

Primus was everything I had hoped them to be-tight, focused, fun, driving, and technically amazing. Gogul Bordello was very repetitive, and consequently tediousl Essentially they played one song, and played it over and over with minor variations. It was like to going to a polka concert. And, they were allowed to play way too long.

    PRIMUS

by iamjackscolon on 8/2/10The Williamsburg Waterfront - Brooklyn

I had such a good time at this show, that I was actually a little depressed for a couple days afterwards. I doubt I'll see another show this good until I see these guys again.

The performances were good but the show started way too early and ended way too early. The layout of the venue is not very good.

    Primus in Brooklyn

by Shingle on 8/2/10The Williamsburg Waterfront - Brooklyn

Fun show. Awesome venue. Perfect weather with amazing an amazing NYC skyline behind us. Primus sounded fantastic. They opened with Pudding Time and closed with Tommy the Cat, both of which were great but I thought the set list could have been a little better overall.

    Primus Williamsburg Waterfront

by Frenchisimo on 8/2/10The Williamsburg Waterfront - Brooklyn

Primus are a must see! Amazing show and setlist. The williamsburg waterfront was an ok venue. Claypool puts on a show. His stage banther is funny. When Claypool was talking about the Manhattan skyline, someone threw a shirt on stage. Claypool replied with, "I don't want your dirty F*%*ing laundry." Great!

    Primus/Gogol Bordello are amazing!

by mikgolightly on 8/1/10The Williamsburg Waterfront - Brooklyn

I was actually there for Gogol Bordello but even though I was late for the concert and only caught 30 minutes of them, I still enjoyed it! I didn't know Primus but they did put up a good show. The crowd was so fun and interesting too. I'd definitely go to any one of them's concert in the future.

    Primus/Gogol/Dead Kenny G's were INCREDBILE

by Anonymous on 7/31/10The Williamsburg Waterfront - Brooklyn

This is quite possibly the best concert I'll see in a long time. I never actually expected to see Primus live until seeing these tickets come up. It was all I hoped for and much much more. The Dead Kenny G's were an AMAZING opening act, and Gogol Bordello was insanely fun to dance (and watch people dance) to. Primus blew my mind, and it was far better than I could have dreamed. I was able to get close enough where I didn't need earplugs but could still see the band, and watching Les come out on stage was just the beginning. The set was perfect, and I felt that personal touch I've seen in various live videos when he commented on how beautiful the view from the harbor was.
