Primus Concert Schedule

American Rock band Primus first came together in the mid-1980s, bringing fans a distinct style of Alternative Rock that wholly distinguishes them from their contemporaries. Primus' tour dates -- which include their 2017 Ambushing The Storm Tour, 2014 Primus & The Chocolate Factory Tour, and 2014 Spring Tour -- have taken the group across the globe. Their tour stops are mostly centered in the Americas but often include legs in Europe and Oceania as well. During their live shows, Primus delivers their trademark brand of rock, metal, and funk elements, laced with ridiculous lyrics sung by bassist Les Claypool (along with his legendary slap bass stylings). Their musicianship is combined with wild costumes and a sense of theater that get audiences moving and laughing in equal measure. Primus' superb musicianship and stage presence haven't gone unnoticed. Their early 1990s work, Sailing The Seas Of Cheese and Pork Soda, both went platinum. In addition, Their 1996 release, Wynona's Big Brown Beaver, and their 2013 re-release of Sailing The Seas Of Cheese both earned them Grammy nominations: Best Hard Rock Performance and Best Surround Sound Album, respectively.

Primus Background

In San Francisco, in 1984, founding member and bassist Les Claypool linked up with guitarist Todd Huth and drummer Jay Lane to form the original Primus. The lineup has gone through several changes over the years, featuring other greats like Peter Libby, Robbie Bean, Tim Wright and even temporary touring members like Buckethead and Danny Carey. Throughout every iteration, though, Primus has always had a knack for putting on stellar shows and concocting unmistakably quirky music. Primus' debut album, Frizzle Fry, garnered them some success with smaller hits like the eponymous "Frizzle Fry," "Pudding Time" and "Mr. Knowitall." They enjoyed even greater acclaim with their 1991 release, Sailing The Seas Of Cheese, which included classic singles like "Jerry Was A Race Car Driver" and "Tommy The Cat." Since their inception, Primus has released more than seven studio albums, with numerous singles gaining spots on the U.S. Alternative charts. Perhaps most enduring is Primus' legacy. The trio has always featured powerhouse musicians and eccentric vocals. Claypool's work on bass, however, redefined the role of the instrument within a rock context and provided a blueprint for the inclusion of tricky (but funky) bass licks in future works by other bands like Incubus, Korn and Limp Bizkit.

    Primus and Farewell to Kings

by Coasterman on 5/24/22The Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

I found out that Primus was doing Rush's Farewell to Kings (FTK) in its entirerty. So i went to their website to see when and where they wer playing. I did not see any shows for the New England area, so i chose a bigger radius to seach and found they were playing two and a half hours away in Albany on May 18. I had never been to a Primus Show, but if they were playing FTK I was going. Gas prices did not stop me. I had heard Primus back in the 90's but did not follow them. I arrived at the Palace Theater and went to my seat just before "Battles" tookj the stage. The two member band was entertaining. There was a lot of sound for just the two of them and i enjoyed the act. I never ever miss an opening band. Why would anyone? I was glad i kept to my creed. They were quite strong. Primus - I had seen Rush 18 times in concert and they are my top three bands, so i was very excited. They came out and did a set of Primus songs and i have to tell you....They were powerful. I was stunned. Like i said, i had never seen them before so how fortunate that I liked Rush so much that I went to see a band do Rush cover songs. I sat there and enjoyed everey minute of their set. It was perfect and so surprising. They were as tight as a drum. Les Claypool even started a "Satnd-Up" routine about those who kept seated. He ran with comical insults that got the crowd laughing. So i saw two shows with Primus - a rock superstar engagement sprinkled with a little humor. I will see them again and again wherever my GPS takes me. Every member of the band became one and i found a new favorite. My face was in a perpetual grin. Still smiling the entire two hour ride home on RT90.

by Johnnymccoy on 5/24/22The Capitol Theatre - Port Chester

Primus was amazing as expected, they nailed the Rush covers! The Cap is an absolute gem of a music venue! Well staffed with friendly people, lots of places to get food and drinks, clean restrooms and the sound and lights are incredible!

The Palace is a great venue for shows, always has had good sound. Loved the VIP opportunity in particular the Q & A. Always want more from Primus but a great show all around. Next stop Pachyderm Celler!

    Better than expected

by Carol B on 5/23/22North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North Charleston

Excellent show. Thought that it was just going to be Primus doing Rush, and loved it when Primus played Primus! The acoustics are great at this venue, and the light show was over the top! Only downside was that people stood up at the start of the concert and never sat down. Had to stand through the whole thing to see the band. Otherwise, great show!

Primus - A Tribute to Kings, The Cap, Port Chester, NY

by BCromagnon on 5/23/22The Capitol Theatre - Port Chester

Great Show...Great Band...Great Night. Les, Ler, and Herb were dead on-point as always. 'A Farewell to Kings' was epic. No sure any other band could have pulledthis off so perfectly. Thanks, boys!

    Outstanding show

by Bossman on 5/23/22The Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

What a great show. Primus performed some songs that I had not heard before, but they were so good. They were spot on with the "Farewell To Kings" performance. Don't expect Les to sound like Geddy Lee, he doesn't and that's ok. The show was outstanding.

    Sound and visuals great. Setlist...meh

by CVB on 5/22/22The Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

Sounded amazing! Setlist, other than Rush, wasn't spectacular. Felt Primus never grabbed the crowd. Hoped finale would have picked things up. Nope. Disappointed because previous setlists looked awesome!

The show itself was incredible. The venue was beautiful . Had an issue with being able to open the ticket I transferred to the individual I went with. The gentleman working at will-call went above and beyond to accommodate us

    Primus Sucks

by Lori on 5/21/22The Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

Really, Primus always gives a 5 star performance. They played some stuff you don’t get to hear very often and some newer stuff. Sorry the show ran so late they didn’t do an encore, especially in light of the 45 minutes the opening band took. They were AWFUL! Then a half hour to set up for Primus. My suggestion, skip the opening band and play an old Primus favorite as an encore.

Probably in my top 3 best

by JSeb on 5/20/22Centre Videotron - Québec

2 shows in one. Primus plays Primus, followed by Primus plays Rush. Honestly, the first was a 12/10 and the second a 9/10 (Claypool doesn't sings as Getty...), for an average cote of 11/10. Wow!

by Seahorse on 5/18/22Massey Hall - Toronto

The concert was amazing. Love the band and this was my first time seeing them live. Massey Hall is a legendary venue and it made the show even better with it's cozy atmosphere.

    What a RUSH

by Northern Pachyderm on 5/17/22Massey Hall - Toronto

One of the best shows I've seen in a very long time. Massey Hall doesn't have a bad seat in the house, what a beautiful venue. Primus was excellent, could of been louder in my opinion but that's probably just me.
