BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Powder Blues Band was formed in Vancouver in 1978 by Tom Levin, who had previously fronted Canadian rock outfit Prism. Born and raised in Illinois, Levin sought to create a new group that would use Chicago-style blues as its foundation. With this vision in place, he enlisted the help of his brother, bassist Jack Levin, also adding keyboardist Willie MacCalder to the group's core lineup. Sax and horn players soon followed, and before long the band was a live staple of the music scene in Vancouver's Gastown district. In 1980 the group financed and produced their debut album Uncut. Despite lacking any major label promotional muscle, the record racked up major radio play and the group quickly gained popularity. In 1981 they won the Juno Award for Most Promising Group of the year, an honor that helped propel Uncut to double platinum status in Canada. They followed up the smash debut with their platinum-selling 1981 sophomore album Thirsty Ears. Since then they've released 12 studio albums including 1990's First Decade, a greatest hits compilation that was certified gold. The band is known for their extensive touring -- one year they even played more than 300 shows. They've joined many icons on stage, including: The Who, Stevie Ray Vaughn, John Lee Hooker, B.B. King, ZZ Top, James Brown, and Willie Dixon. Powder Blues Band continues its long run of spectacular live shows in Canada, the U.S., and Europe, stunning crowds with their truly unforgettable sets.
