    Stellar!

by Cha Cha on 6/10/19Keller Auditorium - Portland

John Moore deserves an Academy Award! He was the consummate Figaro. The other cast members deserve that award, as well. They were mesmerizing. At times, I found myself laughing so hard that my sides hurt with their antics! The voices were magnificent, as well. (I, myself, am a trained operatic soprano, and know what "magnificent" sounds like.) In all, and, as usual, I was "over-the-top" impressed with another Portland Opera production. To me, although I've never been there, your productions might rival those at the Met. I'm so looking forward to seeing "Butterfly" in October! Thank you for letting me express my joy at seeing such a spectacular rendering of this Rossini classic.

    Fun and Entertaining

    by Mom&Kid on 6/10/19Keller Auditorium - Portland

The performer who played Figaro was outstanding! From body movements to facial expressions to his plaid pants, he set the tone for a fun evening. All the performers were outstanding and played their part well. A surprise was the acting and solo by the House Keeper who connected with the audience. A weak point was the inability to clearly hear the Doctor when he was to the back of the stage. Perhaps a microphone problem? In summary, it was a performance that made us laugh.

    Great but...

    by Morrison94 on 6/10/19Keller Auditorium - Portland

..some room for improvement. The singing, the orchestra, set design, and the costumes were all terrific! Figaro was of course non pareil. I took off one star for direction -- that is, just too much stage business thrown into the production. Funny stuff needs to be in some moderation, and there was just too much of it, for my taste. Oh, and Hannah's introductory talk was well worth coming early for. She's the best. Overall, a wonderful night at the opera that made me want to come again.

Candy, for the eyes and ears! The opposite of what most people think about opera. Fast moving, fun, amazing orchestra and voices! Big company, big sets....

    The Big Night

by Sue on 5/14/19Keller Auditorium - Portland

This year's Big Night was a "full meal deal"! The music choices ranged from old favorites of mine to pieces new to me. The performers were wonderful! The grand finale with some chorus members joining the audience and singing the Toreador song in the aisles was a joy. Then - the unexpected release of confetti from the top of the Keller ceiling - crazy fun! The only thing I could say against the evening's experience was that the program was a bit too long without an intermission. A terrific program!

    Interesting event.

    by S. R. on 3/30/19Newmark Theatre - Portland

As One was such an interesting opera. The idea of a transsexual telling her story as the boy she started life as and the trans-woman she became, was a good idea for this opera. The informational talk before the opera was very helpful in understanding the work.

    Faust

    by MaryU2 on 6/13/18Keller Auditorium - Portland

The singing was glorious. Mephistopheles was the weakest i have heard in years but both Faust and Margeurite held their own and all of the famous arias were en point. I did not "get" the mise en scene at all. I am sure someone had a vision but I didn't get it. The orchestra was noticeably energetic as were the choruses. All in all, a nice experience
