About

Porter Robinson on Tour

Porter Robinson had to overcome creative drought, depression and family illness to bring Nurture, his first album in seven years to life. While the path to this new album was nothing short of tumultuous, the end result is “soft, gentle, sweet” and perhaps most importantly “painfully honest,” according to Billboard. Nurture is made up of songs he found on the other side: adventurous, uplifting diaries of his own path back to happiness, each one imploring listeners suffering their own periods of hardship to hold on. “Nurture explores the difficulty of finding fulfillment and plumbs the joyful realization that the world he wanted to create was always right in front of him,” Pitchfork remarks.

Everything’s changed since Robinson’s 2010 arrival, from sonic landscapes to literal surroundings. Porter notes the immense effect of the exit from his childhood home on this new album, where 2014’s genre-defining Worlds signaled an expansion for the universe of electronic music. His arrival into the collective consciousness via co-signs from dance music’s greats now feels like merely a footnote in the time spent since, with 2016 granting the union of Robinson and longtime friend Madeon to conceive the gold-certified single “Shelter.” Just a year later he’d introduce alter ego Virtual Self, a reinvention that landed him a Grammy nod and left incalculable influence in its wake.

The day after Nurture’s release, Porter brought back his livestream festival Secret Sky following an incredibly successful inaugural event in 2020, which took place in a state of the art digital auditorium that he helped design. Soon after, he announced the return of his own music festival Second Sky to California’s Bay Area in September 2021 where he will perform a brand new live show of Nurture material for the first time. With the release of his long-awaited album, the return of both festivals and a steady reemergence from a global pandemic, Porter’s Nurture era is brimming with the promise of rebirth and renewal. “I feel like the world is beautiful and filled with possibility, and that I want to cherish every second that I have to be alive. That description doesn’t quite capture it, but it’s as close as I can get.”

    AWESOME RAGE

by Kittygarfunkle on 7/5/12Masquerade - Atlanta

I would have given it four stars because it was so insanely hot but that it was is expected from a concert like this anyway. It's the Masquerade too, so nothing fancy...just a sketchy warehouse with a good vibe. The sound and lights were great. Bathrooms were awful but I didn't care. Porter Robinson was absolutely amazing....of course.

Venue was amazing. M Machine opener was surprisingly great. Location was very iffy. In the end, I went home sweaty, amazed, and overly satisfied, especially for such a great price. Great venue for an even better price.

Never Coming Back to this Venue

by laniattacks on 4/22/12The Fox Theater - Pomona - Pomona

Online, it said that the event would begin at 8 PM at the Pomona Fox Theater. I arrived at 8:45 PM with friends excited to begin our night. They had already shut off the pit, despite the fact that there was still room for more people. This lead the upper area crowded and walkways were difficult to get through. Later on, my friends smoked a cigarette inside, which I understand is illegal. A simple warning would have done, but to my dismay I could see my friend getting pulled out of the crowd forcefully by what seemed to be another attendee. We yelled at him to stop, but he had a radio and started cussing at us. My friends were then kicked out, even after apologizing many times over. I went back inside to catch Porter's set but was awfully disappointed. The lights and sound were lackluster. This venue and its security are below par and I will never attend a show here ever again.

Porter's energy is unbelievable. His attitude and personality onstage are really unparalleled. He has the crowd hooked with every beat and drop. I wish I could dance to Porter forever.

The entire concert was amazing. The M Machine was the first to go. I loved their giant "M" display, and the colors and patterns displayed on it went well with the music. Their music is really easy to get into and start loving. Adventure Club was next, and they brought a lot of energy. They did lots of mixes and did a good job at getting the crowd pumped up and excited for Porter. While the music they played differed from The M Machine noticeably, they still put on a great set that was great to get moving to. Porter was better than both the opening acts combined. While he didn't talk to the crowd or have a fancy display like the other acts, he played awesome remixes of Daft Punk, Deadmau5, Zedd, Knife Party, Calvin Harris, and others, including plenty of his own stuff. The lights were well-set with the music and he kept the energy going while keeping the music flow solid.

The place where porter played was so beautiful, such great space for dancing. Porter rocked the audience’s butts off! I wish it had been 18+ though.

Porter Robinson is an incredible artist. Adventure Club was a fun warmup, but once Porter took the stage, he made them look like amateurs. I couldn't stop dancing. Hard-hitting, creative house.

    Fantastic Show!!! However..

by Haleyyyyyyyy on 2/26/12Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

I was extremely excited for this show! We arrived when M Machine was playing and they were fantastic! Adventure Club KILLED it! So much energy, stage-diving, and great tracks... they definitely put on an outstanding show! PORTER ROBINSON! Well... I wish I could say the same for the show overall. Now I LOVE Porter, he is so incredibly talented and his tracks and mixes are some of the best I've heard. He had the most amazing setlist/tracks... but that's all he had! No association w/ the crowd (like coming and giving high fives, etc.), no conversation with the crowd, not even a "HELLO BAY AREA!" or "goodnight!". With all the Electronic shows I've been to, I must say this show was not as great as the others in that aspect, but overall it was in no way bad, I danced my ass off and had a great time. Overall was very pleased with it, just wish we got a hello or something!

The M Machine and Porter Robinson killed it.

    by C4RMA on 2/26/12Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

I went to this event to see The M Machine and Porter Robinson. The Fox Theater is really nice and the tiered ground floor gave a lot of room to roam around, dance, and take breaks. Definitely would see Porter again and WILL see The M Machine whenever I can. They totally rocked it. I took a star away due to this show being All Ages. Won't be doing that again.
