About

Porter Robinson on Tour

Porter Robinson had to overcome creative drought, depression and family illness to bring Nurture, his first album in seven years to life. While the path to this new album was nothing short of tumultuous, the end result is “soft, gentle, sweet” and perhaps most importantly “painfully honest,” according to Billboard. Nurture is made up of songs he found on the other side: adventurous, uplifting diaries of his own path back to happiness, each one imploring listeners suffering their own periods of hardship to hold on. “Nurture explores the difficulty of finding fulfillment and plumbs the joyful realization that the world he wanted to create was always right in front of him,” Pitchfork remarks.

Everything’s changed since Robinson’s 2010 arrival, from sonic landscapes to literal surroundings. Porter notes the immense effect of the exit from his childhood home on this new album, where 2014’s genre-defining Worlds signaled an expansion for the universe of electronic music. His arrival into the collective consciousness via co-signs from dance music’s greats now feels like merely a footnote in the time spent since, with 2016 granting the union of Robinson and longtime friend Madeon to conceive the gold-certified single “Shelter.” Just a year later he’d introduce alter ego Virtual Self, a reinvention that landed him a Grammy nod and left incalculable influence in its wake.

The day after Nurture’s release, Porter brought back his livestream festival Secret Sky following an incredibly successful inaugural event in 2020, which took place in a state of the art digital auditorium that he helped design. Soon after, he announced the return of his own music festival Second Sky to California’s Bay Area in September 2021 where he will perform a brand new live show of Nurture material for the first time. With the release of his long-awaited album, the return of both festivals and a steady reemergence from a global pandemic, Porter’s Nurture era is brimming with the promise of rebirth and renewal. “I feel like the world is beautiful and filled with possibility, and that I want to cherish every second that I have to be alive. That description doesn’t quite capture it, but it’s as close as I can get.”

    Better than I could've thought!

by Rita on 11/9/21The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory - Irving

The show was really engaging for someone new and unfamiliar to Porter Robinson. I enjoyed the use of visuals and a fun performance, but also loved how Porter connected to the audience. I had GA tickets and thought they were a big win-- I felt close enough to the stage, but also got to have my own space and choose where to sit/stand within the area. The venue was great too! I was glad to be inside since the weather has been unpredictable and chilly lately and was sooooooooo thankful for the smooth exit out.

by Mchav on 11/9/21The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory - Irving

Venue is wonderful and Porter was incredible! Smooth and quick entry as well. Also, I liked that a negative Covid test or proof of vaccine was required - it made me feel safer and able to enjoy the event to the fullest.

Porter was amazing, but fans weren’t.

by KSen on 11/9/21The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory - Irving

Porter’s set was truly amazing, so lively but still able to be intimate. It really made me feel appreciated as a fan, and I felt seen more than just a person in the crowd. Thank you Porter! The one downside of this concert were the fans. It seems many fans believed this was a rave rather than a live set of Porter’s recent Nurture album. Fans were rude and would not say “excuse me” as they moved through the crowd, shoving their way though. Tons of trash was left on the floor, and fans wouldn’t stop talking during the slower songs or when Porter was speaking directly to us. Thankfully Porter was as good as he was because despite the obnoxious fans, my experience was still life changing.

    An adventure and then some

by G. Rose on 11/8/21Bayou Music Center - Houston

Was absolutely incredible seeing so many amazing artists perform on the same night; I was a huge fan of Jai Wolf already but seeing his set live was so much more mesmerizing and awe inducing! James Ivy was a performance I wasn't expecting, but I was thrilled nonetheless. He was so charming and his song even impressed my sister who is rather particular about her music choice. Then of course, Porter Robinson, the man, the myth, the legend, put on a show that was absolutely out of this world and heart wrenching. Not ashamed to admit I almost cried a few times, and I'm sure that if my partner had gone with me to see this, I would have been in tears out of sheer joy and bittersweet melancholy. Great time, great music, and unforgettable experience; I hope someday I can see all of these artists live in-person once again.

If you like Porter, go! If not, stay very far away

by Frank on 11/8/21Bayou Music Center - Houston

Here's the thing: I think Porter is fine and I generally enjoy his earlier stuff, but this tour isn't about his earlier stuff, it's about that sugar packet of an album that produces butterflies coming out of your speakers when you play it. If you like Porter, then you probably thought that album was incredible so by all means, go. But if you plan on bringing someone who is just ok with Porter or doesn't really care, then that person better have something that changes their state of mind while they're their or they are not going to like it very much at all. I'm giving it three because it's hard to recommend without reservations. Jai Wolf was cool, though.

Best show I've ever been to

by Kris on 11/6/21Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater - Austin

I haven't been to many live events, maybe 3 in total so far, and none of them come anywhere close to this event. ACL moody theatre was an amazing venue, you could probably be anywhere in that room and still get an amazing sound, and pair that up with Porter and friends and you're in for a good time. Was also really cool that virtual self made an appearance too

The staff was amazing, kind, and helpful and the production was next level. If you ever have a chance to see Porter or see any concert at the ACL Moody Live please give yourself the great pleasure of experiencing the magic that the artist and venue holds.

    Great venue

by Lauren on 11/2/21The Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater - Miami Beach

Absolutely loved this venue. So easy getting in, super cool almost movie theater type vibe. Sound quality and lights were amazing. The only part that upset me was that I did not have access to the pit and had to stand in the back with the rows of chairs. Making it hard for my big group to all dance together. We got early bird GA and that was the only option. We were a little bummed we didn’t get the option to be in the pit because those were obviously the best tickets. Had we known about the difference in areas then we absolutely would of got pit tickets.
