Pod Save America on Tour

No matter what your interest — music, true crime, alien abductions — there's a podcast (or a hundred) out there for you. But the Pod Save America podcast was launched with a greater purpose than merely indulging a niche obsession.

Proudly branding itself "a no-bulls**t conversation about politics," its mission is to speak truth to power at a time when political discourse has become mired in disinformation and distortions. Its four hosts are no mere armchair news junkies: Jon Favreau (not to be confused with the actor/director of the same name), Tommy Vietor, Jon Lovett, and Dan Pfeiffer all worked for the Barack Obama administration in various spokesperson, advisory, and speechwriter capacities.

The quartet originally convened in 2016 for Keepin' it 1600, a weekly political podcast hosted by the pop-culture website The Ringer. But the election of Donald Trump that November inspired the team to make podcasting their full-time pursuit. Favreau, Vietor, and Lovett formed their own podcast network — Crooked Media — with a more intense focus on progressive politics and activism, and relaunched their show with Pfeiffer as a twice-weekly podcast named Pod Save America in January 2017.

Combining shrewd political analysis and impassioned calls to action with the informal, off-the-cuff (and unapologetically profane) vibe of a pub hang with your best pals, Pod Save America has proven to be a consoling, cathartic outlet for people who (in the hosts' words) are "not yet ready to give up or go insane."

In its first month, Pod Save America hosted Barack Obama's final interview as president, and the show has since welcomed the likes of Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Warren, and Kamala Harris, attracting an audience of more than 1.5 million listeners per episode in the process.

The show's casual feel naturally lends itself to a stage setting — the Pod Save America crew first toured the nation in 2017 and, in the run-up to the 2018 U.S. midterm elections, the podcast made its television debut with four HBO specials filmed before live audiences. Their road campaign continues into 2019, with the intent of directly engaging more Americans to become actively involved in the political process.

  • Great Show!

by Paul on 12/10/23The Magnolia - El CajonRating: 5 out of 5

Love Pod Save America and it was great to see them at one of my favorite venues. My only complaint is about the drink prices. I expect them to be expensive at any event. But one beer, one can of wine or seltzer or something and one water was $50 after the tip. That is insane. Otherwise it was fun and I hope to be back soon (although might skip the drinks next time).

  • Great, but too late and long!

by NB on 11/13/23The Joy Theater - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

Hey, loved the show, but would've definitely started an hour earlier for future shows. Thanks!

  • Pod Save America live is the best!

by ErinK on 10/23/23Lincoln Theatre - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Pod Save America in person. What could be better? All four hosts plus special guests. These guys know their stuff and communicate it well and in an entertaining way. It was a bit difficult to understand Jon Favreau. I don’t know it that had anything to do with him wearing vs holding a mic. For members of the panel, it would be great if there was as little overlap as possible with their comments and audience applause because I value everything they say.

  • Great Show

by Bernadette on 10/22/23Lincoln Theatre - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

I listen to Pod Save America every week, and it was extra special to see them live. Pod guys were super, Lovett was great as always, and really terrific guests. Seats were in the balcony and had a great view.

  • Laughs and Progress

    by Janice C on 10/22/23Lincoln Theatre - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

I love PSA and I listen to the pods every week, but this was my first live PSA show, and it was so much fun. I did not expect to laugh so much, but the guests were so great! I would definitely go to other live PSA shows in the future when they come back to the DC area.

  • Amazing

  • Another great show!

Pod Save America has been my favorite podcast for years! To experience a live taping was amazing. CEC is a great venue - this was my first visit, and I can't wait to go back!

  • Uncomfortably Disappointed

    by E. N. M. on 7/25/22Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 2 out of 5

The fact that the original venue was at The Paramount amplifies the disappointment of The Moore Theatre as an alt venue. There was no airflow (not talking about AC, just air circulation) during an uncomfortably warm and still evening, no balcony steps lights for audience members, no handrails to guide audience members up/down unusually steep balcony stairs, and unusually uncomfortable theatre seats. I booked great seats at the Paramount and was NOT traded with equivalent value seats at the Moore.

  • Fun to see this show live!

by Cath on 6/22/22Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

I watch these wonderful smart people on youtube and thought it would be fun to see them live. A couple of days later I also listened to the same show on Apple podcasts and then they posted it to youtube as well. Brilliant ideas! I hope I get to see a future show again someday.

  • Fun but not Fabulous

by Sam on 6/22/22Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 3 out of 5

I love this Podcast and the guys who do it. Interesting, insightful, fun!! Seeing it live was a bit disappointing, very little interaction with the audience before, during, or after the show. Rather just listen to them in the future.

  • Excellent

by Lal on 6/7/22Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Lots of fun - super engaging. If you're on the fence about seeing them live, 10/10 recommend!

PSA is better in person. Loved the engagement and flow.

  • Best Show Ever!!!

by nnej on 5/12/22Stifel Theatre - St. LouisRating: 5 out of 5

We have been to other live podcast shows before but this had the added excitement of audience interaction. Would definitely see again.

  • Awesome

by Meg on 5/10/22Stifel Theatre - St. LouisRating: 5 out of 5

I needed this show this week. It was great and help me feel inspired.

  • Liberal Love

by Bob on 5/9/22Stifel Theatre - St. LouisRating: 4 out of 5

If you’re a progressive or liberal (I am) this show was right up your alley. Topical and smart. I haven’t been a huge Cory Bush fan, but I was impressed with her this time. The Jason Kander section was weak. He’s more interesting than he got a chance to show. But the reason you enjoy PSA are the host, and they delivered .

  • Awesome event with the Pod team

by Caterio on 4/18/22Boch Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Just a fun great night with super insights. Ed Markey was fabulous as was Michelle Wu. Thanks for a great evening of thoughtful opinions

  • Great show!

by Mandy on 4/18/22Boch Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I absolutely loved seeing this live taping of PSA. The show was about an hour, and I had a really wonderful time. It started slightly late (about 10 minutes past 8:00), but I assume that’s because audience members were still filing in at that time. The guys were super charismatic, and I was very pleased with the special guests. Highly recommend!

  • First time at this venue, and seeing the Pod!

Severing was really well run, would be happy to attend other shows here.
