Pod Save America on Tour

No matter what your interest — music, true crime, alien abductions — there's a podcast (or a hundred) out there for you. But the Pod Save America podcast was launched with a greater purpose than merely indulging a niche obsession.

Proudly branding itself "a no-bulls**t conversation about politics," its mission is to speak truth to power at a time when political discourse has become mired in disinformation and distortions. Its four hosts are no mere armchair news junkies: Jon Favreau (not to be confused with the actor/director of the same name), Tommy Vietor, Jon Lovett, and Dan Pfeiffer all worked for the Barack Obama administration in various spokesperson, advisory, and speechwriter capacities.

The quartet originally convened in 2016 for Keepin' it 1600, a weekly political podcast hosted by the pop-culture website The Ringer. But the election of Donald Trump that November inspired the team to make podcasting their full-time pursuit. Favreau, Vietor, and Lovett formed their own podcast network — Crooked Media — with a more intense focus on progressive politics and activism, and relaunched their show with Pfeiffer as a twice-weekly podcast named Pod Save America in January 2017.

Combining shrewd political analysis and impassioned calls to action with the informal, off-the-cuff (and unapologetically profane) vibe of a pub hang with your best pals, Pod Save America has proven to be a consoling, cathartic outlet for people who (in the hosts' words) are "not yet ready to give up or go insane."

In its first month, Pod Save America hosted Barack Obama's final interview as president, and the show has since welcomed the likes of Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Warren, and Kamala Harris, attracting an audience of more than 1.5 million listeners per episode in the process.

The show's casual feel naturally lends itself to a stage setting — the Pod Save America crew first toured the nation in 2017 and, in the run-up to the 2018 U.S. midterm elections, the podcast made its television debut with four HBO specials filmed before live audiences. Their road campaign continues into 2019, with the intent of directly engaging more Americans to become actively involved in the political process.

    Fun but not Fabulous

by Sam on 6/22/22Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

I love this Podcast and the guys who do it. Interesting, insightful, fun!! Seeing it live was a bit disappointing, very little interaction with the audience before, during, or after the show. Rather just listen to them in the future.

Lots of fun - super engaging. If you're on the fence about seeing them live, 10/10 recommend!

    Liberal Love

by Bob on 5/9/22Stifel Theatre - St. Louis

If you’re a progressive or liberal (I am) this show was right up your alley. Topical and smart. I haven’t been a huge Cory Bush fan, but I was impressed with her this time. The Jason Kander section was weak. He’s more interesting than he got a chance to show. But the reason you enjoy PSA are the host, and they delivered .

    Great show!

by Mandy on 4/18/22Boch Center Wang Theatre - Boston

I absolutely loved seeing this live taping of PSA. The show was about an hour, and I had a really wonderful time. It started slightly late (about 10 minutes past 8:00), but I assume that’s because audience members were still filing in at that time. The guys were super charismatic, and I was very pleased with the special guests. Highly recommend!

    WORTH EVERY PENNY

by JOYVICTORIA on 4/18/22The Anthem - Washington

After years of listening to "the guys" and their guests, seeing this in person in Washington DC was even better than we thought it would be and we knew it would be great. For the record, there were more of us elders than I thought there'd be, so there was that, too. Jane was great, and so was Jen Psaki - what a gift to the world and to the Pod. Wasn't familiar with Mike B. and enjoyed his segment. HIGHLY recommend experiencing PSA in PERSON. Jon, Jon, Dan and Tommy are part of the family discussions so it felt great to "meet" them and our front row seats didn't hurt. (smile)

    PSA was the best.

by TKK on 4/17/22The Anthem - Washington

It was a great venue. We did think we gave ourselves enough time for parking but got in there about 10 minutes before the show started. #UberNextTime Was bummed the kitchen was closed. Though it was all about seeing the pod guys, Jane, Jen Psaki and Rob. It was also amazing as a very active volunteer and voter to see so many younger adults engaged and going to the sold out show. I hope it translates into votes.

    Fire the sound engineer

    by k. on 10/2/19Paramount Theatre - Seattle

Unable to hear a large part of the show. Crowd reactions drowned out the sound from the loudspeakers and the hosts kept on talking through it. What we could hear was thoughtful, educational and entertaining.

    Great content!

    by J. C. on 10/2/19Paramount Theatre - Seattle

As with the Pod Save America studio broadcasts, the moderators provide great content. Paying so much to see the show live, the production crew might consider adding more "live audience only" content, such as a longer Q&A. The show started 20 minutes late which I felt was disrespectful of our time, especially them coming out without an apology or explanation.

    Great show, couldn’t hear it

by Christina on 10/2/19Paramount Theatre - Seattle

The sound system was surprisingly terrible - this was a live taping of a podcast, so yesterday I listened to the podcast online and was finally able to hear all the funny comments and jokes I missed anytime the presenters talked over each other or the audience applauded. And that was free.... so no, I wouldn’t come back to just watch.
