About

Pixies have been acclaimed as the most influential, pioneering band of the late 80s alt/rock movement, having served as a major influence for artists like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, the Strokes, Weezer, and many more.  And today, a whole new generation of music fans has been discovering and embracing the band's "loudquietloud" signature sound.  Quirky, catchy melodies have always been Pixies' calling card; seven genre-defining studio albums, including the Gold-certified Surfer Rosa, and the iconic Platinum Doolittle, considered one of the all-time, quintessential alt/rock albums.  Sell-out crowds all over the globe, Pixies' live shows are unadulterated magic, simultaneously electrifying and lo-fi.  Seventy-five minutes of the band playing anything they want, in whatever order they want, the classics and the new gems.  And no two Pixies shows are ever the same.

After disbanding in 1993, Pixies launched their reunion tour in April 2004, playing to sell-out crowds across the globe for 15 years, a far longer period of time than they were a band originally.  But writing, recording, and releasing new music was something that the band had been wanting to do for a long time, so they secretly booked studio time in Wales for the fall of 2012.  Six days into the recording, founding bassist Kim Deal decided to leave the band; Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lovering made the decision to carry on, finishing and releasing the band's first studio album in more than two decades, 2014's Indie Cindy.

As a prolific international touring band, Francis, Santiago, Lovering began working with a number of touring bassists, including former A Perfect Circle bassist Paz Lenchantin. The band are renowned for their emphatic live performances - where they play all four corners of the globe - their live sets regularly rack up to 30+ songs played - made even more impressive by the fact that there are no pre-planned setlists or soundchecks before the band walk onto the stage to play.

Twenty-sixteen's Head Carrier followed and marked the beginning of the band's long-standing collaboration with British producer Tom Dalgety.  Twenty-eighteen's Beneath the Eyrie, the next full-length recording project with Dalgety, was recorded at Dreamland Studios near Woodstock, NY. The recording session was documented by the innovative "It's a Pixies Podcast," which captured a true un-edited record of the recording process. A deluxe edition followed, featuring unreleased demos from the Dreamland session.

Early 2022 saw the band and producer Dalgety settle into Guilford Studios in the woods of Vermont, armed with a true abundance of riches, more demos than were needed for the band's eighth album, Doggerel.  Pixies renewed musical fervor saw a stand-alone single, "Human Crime," leap from the shadows in March 2022, and the band then headed out on the road to play sold-out shows in North America, headline BBC Radio 6 Music Festival in Cardiff, and play Mexico City's Vive Latino festival to 70,000 people.  Pixies' first international tour since 2019 kicks off June 22 in Europe and will see the band performing in South America, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.

Doggerel (2022) is a mature yet visceral record of gruesome folk, ballroom pop and brutal rock haunted by the ghosts of affairs and indulgences, driven wild by cosmic forces and envisioning digital afterlives where no God has provided one.

Doggerel was toured worldwide to sell-out audiences across the entirety of 2022 and 2023 - with the very last show at Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles. Despite the band approaching their 38th year together, the crowds remain as diverse as ever - with new generations of fans emerging year-on-year who were not even born during Pixies 1.0. Pixies will return in 2024...

The Pixies live is an event not to be missed!!!

    by Kit79 on 11/10/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

They sounded amazing as ever. The sound was great and they played the who Doolittle album along with other favorite songs. If you have a chance to go see them don't miss it. The Fox theater is a fabulous venue also. They did a wonderful job restoring it. I love the general admission area.

    Not what I was expecting

by PixiesLover on 11/10/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

The venue was beautiful, but the opening band SUCKED. Pixies were great and it was fun to see them after 20 years, but they played straight throught the Doolittle album and didn't play much off other albums.

Very good, but less than expected

by Ehud on 11/10/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

As a long time Pixies fan, i was expecting a more energetic show. Instead, the band members stood on the stage and did not utter a word between songs (except for Kim, who gave a line every once in a while). they started with a few B-sides, followed by Doolittle in it's entire, than a few more songs.

    Classic

by Mochimel on 11/10/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Rocked it the entire show. Played all the classics and came back with an encore of a slow version wave of mutilation, where is my mind?, and my ultimate favorite, Caribou.

    Pixies revival

by Littleking on 11/10/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Having been a huge Pixies fan during their heyday but never having had the chance to see them, this was a great opportunity. Liked the fact that there wasn't the usual annoying patter between songs that most bands seem to feel obligated to provide. One interesting and sometimes distracting occurrent was Kim Deal announcing the song and its location on the album ('next is Monkey Gone to Heaven, last song first side'). The show opened with clips from the Dali/Bunuel film that provided Black with much of the inspiration for many of the songs and the famous tag: 'slicing up eyeballs.' A disturbing yet revealing opening to the show. For those unfamiliar with the film reference, it provided additional richness and depth to the some of the themes running through the album (opening and closing tracks referencing damage to the eyes, for example). I also love this venue, having seen several shows here since it opened. Was definitely exciting to hear the band with all its original members play a hugely influential album all the way through.

    I heart the Pixies

by pamx on 11/10/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

The Pixies were great! Great sound, cool visuals, loved the B-sides (a nice surprise!) And the Fox in Oakland is a wonderful venue--my first time there. I would definitely see another show there.

You have to see them live!

by domolina on 11/10/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Wow, I couldn't believe what a polished act they put on. I thought it would be a simple, grunge type of show, but it was really well done. THey made great use of the screens, smoke, and lighting. It was so entertaining. And there were 2 encores.

One of the best shows I've ever been to!

    by GregK88 on 11/10/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

If the Pixies are your thing, go!! They are one of my all-time favorites and this was one of the best experiences of my life. They don't feel like a band who's playing all their songs from 20 years ago, they feel fresh and alive.

    Spot On

by sdsowlsa on 11/10/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

The Pixies played Doolittle straight through. Every song was its own ball of immense energy. They sounded totally in sync, and didn't miss a beat. I'll always be thankful that I got to see this amazing band live.

    Pixies Sunday night

by fluffyriv on 11/9/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

The Pixies played Doolittle in its entirety and in order of the record. They also had a couple of encores with some of their greatest hits. It was a good show. Kim Deal is my hero! I love her and hoped she was not just doing the tour for money.

    Pixies Doolittle

by buggeroff on 11/9/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Outstanding live performance of Doolittle last night in Oakland by the originators of Alt Rock, the Pixies (I know everyone thinks it was Nirvana, but Cobain lists the Pixies as one of his greatest influences!). The show is rounded out with Doolittle era B-sides, so only a couple of the great tunes from their non-Doolittle catalog made it into the show in the second encore. The Fox is an outstanding venue and the Pixies brought down the house. See them while you can!

The Pixies put on an amazing live show. The venue was beautiful and the staff were very helpful. This was one of the best shows I've ever been to. If you ever have a chance to go to the Fox Theatre, GO! You won't be dissapointed.

    Pixies still kick ass!

by pjcm on 11/9/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

The show was great. The only thing better would've been about 4 more songs- 2 from Bossanova, 2 from Trompe le Monde to make it even more satisfying.

definitely have not lost their touch. show was slick, impeccable and i felt thrilled to be seeing them live. the background screen displayed images that were at times cute and disturbing. but never overshadowed the performers. favorites were played, jokes were made. the fox theater is crazy beautiful. from it's deco decor to the geniuses of multiple bars and bathrooms, you never had to wait long to use either.

Greatest Show I have ever been too

    by andrew12494 on 11/9/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

I guess I am being a little bias, since the Pixies are my favorite band, but this is the greatest show I have ever attended. I was right in front, and the whole place was jumping. The opening band was ok, but overall this was the best show EVER!!!

    Caribou

by meowth on 11/9/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Seeing the for the first time the last rock band I've loved since high school (2002-2006) was sentimental, and is definitively the last rock concert that I will love going to in that special teenager adolescent way. I called the double encore Caribou as the closer on the BART ride to the theater, and while I got less sleep than I normally would have liked to on a school night. Some things in life are more important than school. The only thing missing from the night were my godbrothers who introduced the Pixies and Doolittle to me. God bless you Phil and Sam.

    Pixies were amazing, audience sucked!

    by melmar6 on 11/9/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Saw the Pixies last night at Fox Theater in Oakland. They were just amazing. I missed them in their prime in the early 90's and felt lucky to see this reunion show in honor of Doolittle. However, the Oakland-Bay Area crowd was ridiculous! We had assigned seat tickets in the theater got yelled at to sit down. Rudely, the guy behind us started throwing things at us yelling that he paid a lot of money for his tcikets and wanted to see. I am sorry, but hello? its a PIXIES show!!!! I am old enough to have enjoyed the Pixies in their prime, but not too old to enjoy live music the proper way. Its not the Opera people. Bottom line: Pixies still rock, Oakland fans do not!
