About

Pixies have been acclaimed as the most influential, pioneering band of the late 80s alt/rock movement, having served as a major influence for artists like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, the Strokes, Weezer, and many more.  And today, a whole new generation of music fans has been discovering and embracing the band's "loudquietloud" signature sound.  Quirky, catchy melodies have always been Pixies' calling card; seven genre-defining studio albums, including the Gold-certified Surfer Rosa, and the iconic Platinum Doolittle, considered one of the all-time, quintessential alt/rock albums.  Sell-out crowds all over the globe, Pixies' live shows are unadulterated magic, simultaneously electrifying and lo-fi.  Seventy-five minutes of the band playing anything they want, in whatever order they want, the classics and the new gems.  And no two Pixies shows are ever the same.

After disbanding in 1993, Pixies launched their reunion tour in April 2004, playing to sell-out crowds across the globe for 15 years, a far longer period of time than they were a band originally.  But writing, recording, and releasing new music was something that the band had been wanting to do for a long time, so they secretly booked studio time in Wales for the fall of 2012.  Six days into the recording, founding bassist Kim Deal decided to leave the band; Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lovering made the decision to carry on, finishing and releasing the band's first studio album in more than two decades, 2014's Indie Cindy.

As a prolific international touring band, Francis, Santiago, Lovering began working with a number of touring bassists, including former A Perfect Circle bassist Paz Lenchantin. The band are renowned for their emphatic live performances - where they play all four corners of the globe - their live sets regularly rack up to 30+ songs played - made even more impressive by the fact that there are no pre-planned setlists or soundchecks before the band walk onto the stage to play.

Twenty-sixteen's Head Carrier followed and marked the beginning of the band's long-standing collaboration with British producer Tom Dalgety.  Twenty-eighteen's Beneath the Eyrie, the next full-length recording project with Dalgety, was recorded at Dreamland Studios near Woodstock, NY. The recording session was documented by the innovative "It's a Pixies Podcast," which captured a true un-edited record of the recording process. A deluxe edition followed, featuring unreleased demos from the Dreamland session.

Early 2022 saw the band and producer Dalgety settle into Guilford Studios in the woods of Vermont, armed with a true abundance of riches, more demos than were needed for the band's eighth album, Doggerel.  Pixies renewed musical fervor saw a stand-alone single, "Human Crime," leap from the shadows in March 2022, and the band then headed out on the road to play sold-out shows in North America, headline BBC Radio 6 Music Festival in Cardiff, and play Mexico City's Vive Latino festival to 70,000 people.  Pixies' first international tour since 2019 kicks off June 22 in Europe and will see the band performing in South America, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.

Doggerel (2022) is a mature yet visceral record of gruesome folk, ballroom pop and brutal rock haunted by the ghosts of affairs and indulgences, driven wild by cosmic forces and envisioning digital afterlives where no God has provided one.

Doggerel was toured worldwide to sell-out audiences across the entirety of 2022 and 2023 - with the very last show at Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles. Despite the band approaching their 38th year together, the crowds remain as diverse as ever - with new generations of fans emerging year-on-year who were not even born during Pixies 1.0. Pixies will return in 2024...

    Pixies did their job

    by J. M. on 6/28/23Moody Amphitheater - Austin

There was almost no stage banter or interacting with the audience. They came out, played some hits, the middle slowed down with a run of lesser known or new songs, then they finished with more hits. Light show was underwhelming and the large floodlights were out of place with the rest of the lighting design. Sound was excellent and the band sounded well-practiced. I would have loved a little more energy from the stage, if felt like they were doing a job, not giving a performance.

    Never cease to impress

    by D. J. on 6/28/23South Side Ballroom - Dallas

Been catching Pixies’ shows since they were European summer music fest main stays, through their performance as headliners of a reunion show between the Narrows to an anniversary show of Doolittle in DC, and they never cease to amaze me. There really is no other band that sounds or performs like them. To see a generationally diverse crowd singing every lyric and bouncing to that Planet-size wall of Sound was incredible. So happy to see Charles and crew still have that elusive IT.

    Everything you could want

by Angel on 6/28/23South Side Ballroom - Dallas

Overall great shows, very tight sound from all bands that played that night and I would definitely recommend the pixies to anyone who would enjoy good music being played by seasoned musicians.

Exceeded expectations, even after waiting 30+ years!

by StPatrickzz on 6/27/23South Side Ballroom - Dallas

The Pixies absolutely exceeded my expectations, even after waiting 30+ years to see them. My only complaint is that they could have easily booked and filled a larger venue, one with seats. As is old-timer fans have agreed, we’ve moved out of GA and into seats, so that would have made the experience 10x better. But still, the venue wasn’t terrible. Good mix and acoustics weren’t bad at all. I was surprised at how good everything sounded, even as I posted my way towards the stage and further away from FOH. ***** Franz Ferdinand were good but I just couldn’t get into it. I completely missed Bully…

    Hot! Turn on the A/C

by Chick on 6/27/23Bayou Music Center - Houston

That building must be cooled for a concert in summer. One woman passed out in front of us.

    Way oversold!

by Muzak fan on 6/27/23South Side Ballroom - Dallas

Not sure why these venues are over selling GA!? Terrible. Long lines that run into the crowd. No where to stand. People cramming in and nowhere to go! Bathroom line’s ridiculous!! Sucks to really enjoy the music, but hate the experience.

    meh!

by Perm on 6/27/23South Side Ballroom - Dallas

Nothing special. Pretty boring show. We left early. Really hate wen the entire audience sings so loud you can’t hear the band and throw their hands up acting out the song, like “man is five”… what is five? Oh, yeah, they have five fingers up! That’s five! (Whew!). I went to see the band, not a chorus of drunk people playing charades. But in general, wish they did a little something different when performing live. They pretty much play exactly what was released on the albums. No interaction with the crowd. They almost looked bored, like they were at a job they really didn’t like. And what’s up with picking Franz as an opening act?! Their music is just awful! Their band is very good, their songs and lead man just suck! Bully was very good.

The Pixies were wonderful the venue was way oversold too cro

by Tonka on 6/27/23South Side Ballroom - Dallas

The Pixies put on an outstanding performance, beer and drinks for overpriced, the venue is way oversold. I love the place but they need to do something better with the way that The Standing Room is maybe add a second deck

    Pixies/Franz Ferdinand @Gilleys

by Josh on 6/27/23South Side Ballroom - Dallas

The bands were awesome, but I didn’t care for the crowd or the venue. I definitely prefer the people of Tulsa at Cains Ballroom. I love the Pixies and Franz Ferdinand really grew on me. I was surprised that they didn’t play Take me Out though.

    Great show, but...

by Jefe817 on 6/27/23South Side Ballroom - Dallas

The Pixies were fantastic, even if they didn't play Nimrod's Son. As for Franz Ferdinand, also great, but how do you not play Take Me Out???? My star removal is for the venue. I'm all about standing room, but for some reason this spot feels so much worse in terms of space and sight lines than any other spot in town. Give me The Factory or even Trees any day over this.

They really oversold the venue. There were too many people for the space.

Pixies performance - 6 out of 5 stars

by Rich Henderson on 6/26/23Bayou Music Center - Houston

Bayou Music Center - 1 out of 5 stars. The heat was unbearable. Would not attend another show there in summer for sure. Consider this when making plans. Spent about $50 on canned water. That said concessions and security was awesome - super nice people. Just turn on the A/C In the summer in Houston!

    Good Show, Cost a Bundle

by Tod on 6/26/23Bayou Music Center - Houston

I was not familiar with The Pixies music, went with a friend. The entire show was entertaining. Oddly, the opening act, Bully, was my favorite of the three. I also really liked Franz Ferdinand. The Pixies' fans were definitely on display. I think I enjoyed watching the fans from the balcony more than the show! However, this may be the last show I see at Bayou Music Center. Ticketmaster gouged me tremendously for tickets and even more so for parking. And then the drinks at the show were 22 dollars. So I doubt I'll be making that mistake again.

    Left wanting more

by TL on 6/24/23Fillmore New Orleans - New Orleans

They played for only 1:35 minutes. No encore. What they played, they played fine. Just not enough.

    Excellent musicians.

by Shane W on 6/24/23Fillmore New Orleans - New Orleans

The Pixies haven't lost a lick. They sounded crisp, energetic, and played a perfect show. The Fillmore was packed. I would have expected them to have more bartenders on staff. Three bartenders for 2,000+ people? Poor planning.
