Pittsburgh Penguins History

The Pittsburgh Penguins joined the National Hockey League for the 1967-1968 season during the League's expansion from six to 12 teams. The Penguins played at Civic Arena (nicknamed "the Igloo") until the 2009-2010 season, when they moved to PPG Paints Arena (formerly CONSOL Energy Center).

Postseason appearances have been nearly a birthright for the Penguins and their fans since the 1990-1991 season, after which they won five Stanley Cup Championships. They've won six conference championships and earned the Stanley Cup Champion title in back-to-back seasons (2016 and 2017) with coach Mike Sullivan and the great Sidney Crosby as captain at the helm.

In the 2005 NHL Draft the Penguins selected Crosby as their No. 1 pick. Dubbed “The Next One,” Crosby has spent an historic 18 seasons with the Penguins and entered the 2023-2024 at 25th on the league’s all-time scoring list.

The franchise boasts more than a dozen former players in the NHL Hall of Fame, including Mario Lemieux, Ron Francis, Mark Recchi, Bryan Trottier, and Paul Coffey. The Penguins most recently made the playoffs in 2022. To date, they've appeared in the playoffs 37 times.

Two Goals by Sid, the Kid with one for the winner in OT. Tough ‘Cane’s defense. Great hockey game! Fun, fun, fun.

Ticketmaster was so easy to use. I love that they gave an insurance option, too. The seats I purchased were excellent for a reasonable price.

  • Great Game!! Everything else was alright

    by Medz78 on 12/15/23PPG Paints Arena - PittsburghRating: 3 out of 5

The lines were horrible to get into the building. Then followed by horrible food at Burgatory. They were not using the number board. I waiting 20 mins for a burnt/cold hamburger and was awful.

  • Bigeherb’s review of Pens vs Flyers game

by Bigeherb on 12/5/23PPG Paints Arena - PittsburghRating: 5 out of 5

The game was intense from beginning to end, both teams played hard! The game was tied at 3 then went into overtime followed by a shootout! As a native Philadelphian now living in Pittsburgh or was great to see the rivalry!

  • Opposing fans blocking seats during warm-ups

    by Peng-win58 on 11/28/23PPG Paints Arena - PittsburghRating: 3 out of 5

PPG paints arena is a great venue! Always a good game experience. The problem that happened was at the Toronto Maple Leafs game on 11/25. There were bus loads of maple leaf fans there for the game who were causing disturbances all over the arena, inside and outside. Outside of the arena, they were climbing on the Mario Lemieux statue. Inside the arena, in section 104, opposing fans were gathering by the hundreds to see the maple leafs warm up. The fans were blocking the flow of traffic for everyone else who had paid for tickets in that section. When we asked the ushers to help us to our seats, they replied with "good luck, there's lots of people down there!"We had to battle the hundreds of fans just to get to our seats that we had paid for! There was another family with small children that were trying to make their way down to their seats and fans were refusing to move for them. It was very disappointing in the PPG staff that they weren't making fans move. The fans that were watching were standing on the seats to lift themselves up higher and nobody could see. We yelled at the fans who were standing on seats to get down. Promoting this behavior and not holding fans accountable for the seats that they paid a lot of money for is completely unacceptable. We will not be returning for a game when the penguins play the Maple Leafs. This behavior puts safety at risk, especially when coming to a game with children, who can't barge their way through the mob of fans.

  • Purchase (SRO)

by TracyZ on 11/28/23PPG Paints Arena - PittsburghRating: 3 out of 5

I purchased row (SRO) not realizing what it meant the day before the event. Wanted to upgrade and no one could help. Needless to say I did not win any points with my stepsons. It would be nice if Ticketmaster spelled out what I was purchasing since I was unfamiliar with the acronyms.

  • Someone is making it tuff to get tickets

by Derf on 11/28/23PPG Paints Arena - PittsburghRating: 4 out of 5

Its is increasingly difficult to get odd numbers of tickets. A family of 3 or5,,,,etc... is being discriminated against, The system won't allow you to leave a single seat remaining in a group. Whole sections of the arena are vacant and y'all are worried about 1 seat.

  • No parking available

by Disappointed on 11/19/23PPG Paints Arena - PittsburghRating: 1 out of 5

Ticket purchase was easy enough. Arrived at the event 45 minutes prior to puck drop. Spent over one hour attempting to secure a parking spot. All lots around PPG Paints Arena were either permit only or full. (Parking costs $35 - $40 across from the arena). Ended up eating the tickets because no parking was available. Won't waste my money on Pens tickets again.... Sad......
