Pittsburgh Penguins History
The Pittsburgh Penguins joined the National Hockey League for the 1967-1968 season during the League's expansion from six to 12 teams. The Penguins played at Civic Arena (nicknamed "the Igloo") until the 2009-2010 season, when they moved to PPG Paints Arena (formerly CONSOL Energy Center).
Postseason appearances have been nearly a birthright for the Penguins and their fans since the 1990-1991 season, after which they won five Stanley Cup Championships. They've won six conference championships and earned the Stanley Cup Champion title in back-to-back seasons (2016 and 2017) with coach Mike Sullivan and the great Sidney Crosby as captain at the helm.
In the 2005 NHL Draft the Penguins selected Crosby as their No. 1 pick. Dubbed “The Next One,” Crosby has spent an historic 18 seasons with the Penguins and entered the 2023-2024 at 25th on the league’s all-time scoring list.
The franchise boasts more than a dozen former players in the NHL Hall of Fame, including Mario Lemieux, Ron Francis, Mark Recchi, Bryan Trottier, and Paul Coffey. The Penguins most recently made the playoffs in 2022. To date, they've appeared in the playoffs 37 times.

Great Experience overall! Would definitely return again in the future.
Im a pens love going to the burgh to see them. Pork nachos awesome. Great game pens lost im ot
Travelled from Toronto to watch the Sens/Pens game. Loved the arena, good food options and friendly well-behaved crowd. Great family experience! Only downside was Sidney Crosby wasn't playing :(
Great game except for the injury to Jake Guentzel. He reached a scoring milestone and was named to the All Star team, and then had a possibly season ending injury in the game.
We had the best time of our lives with one hitch we payed for our anniversary to be displayed on jumbotron but never got to see it . Though it would be at the beginning of the second period but came out at the beginning of the third period. Was very disappointed but the action on the ice was awesome and still had a great time ! Big win loved it !
Missed watching Sidney these 2 games and hope he and Jake Guentzel are healthy for the game in Montreal.
The staff at PPG Paints Arena was very helpful. The seats were awesome and the crowd was electric. I'll be going to another Penguins game if at all possible.
We came from FL to see our first Pens game at PPG Paints Arena!! It was the best experience ever!! My family and I had the best time! The energy, the support of the fans! I can’t wait to come back!!
PPG Arena is a stellar place to watch hockey and everyone involved with that place and that team (the Penguins) were friendly & helpful! Only (minor) issue was that the box office was not clearly marked from the place taxi dropped off to the walk up to venue... had to walk around the building once to find it. Not mad, needed to hit 10,000 steps anyway! ;)
Parking doesn’t have anything to do with ticket master so that’s why it’s still 5 stars. Jim Shorkey parking 1100 block was about as rude as they can be and very in helpful in finding my parking lot.
Love the atmosphere.. best fans ever.. gives me a break from my college stress life
The Penguins are a quality organization throughout their entire organization. Their commitment to that quality is seen in their attempt at always providing a positive fan experience. The win was very lice too!
Game was great, seats were awesome. Looking forward to next game. I love my Penguins 🐧 🏒
What a great game and atmosphere for a sporting event! We try to make it to 2-3 Pens games each year, and this one did not disappoint! Will call tickets with Ticketmaster was easy and quick. Will do again!!!
This was my 11th pens game and my daughter 's 4th. It was great to see my 11th win and her 4th. Staff was amazing as always
I LOVE THE PENGUINS and going to the games is always fun. I always have a blast. All the seats are great! LETS GO PITTSBURGH!!!
Always enjoy going to a Pens game but this time the SRO Seats were not the best! So will rethink that next time!
Close to the ice, hearing the puck and the players hit the glass, and we won!!
I was going to visit Chicago, and so thought it would be great to see if the Blackhawks were playing. I saw the game vs. Pittsburgh, bought three tickets, and then as soon as I hit "Buy" saw the next screen that showed the game was in Pittsburgh. I even bought the insurance for the event, but that doesn't pay if you simply can't be in Pittsburgh for the game. I put my tickets up for sale, apparently sold for half price, but I haven't seen the proceeds yet. All a bad experience for me. My fault? Sure. but........
Seats in keybank club are great! I plan on going again soon and sitting in same area.
