Pittsburgh Penguins History
The Pittsburgh Penguins joined the National Hockey League for the 1967-1968 season during the League's expansion from six to 12 teams. The Penguins played at Civic Arena (nicknamed "the Igloo") until the 2009-2010 season, when they moved to PPG Paints Arena (formerly CONSOL Energy Center).
Postseason appearances have been nearly a birthright for the Penguins and their fans since the 1990-1991 season, after which they won five Stanley Cup Championships. They've won six conference championships and earned the Stanley Cup Champion title in back-to-back seasons (2016 and 2017) with coach Mike Sullivan and the great Sidney Crosby as captain at the helm.
In the 2005 NHL Draft the Penguins selected Crosby as their No. 1 pick. Dubbed “The Next One,” Crosby has spent an historic 18 seasons with the Penguins and entered the 2023-2024 at 25th on the league’s all-time scoring list.
The franchise boasts more than a dozen former players in the NHL Hall of Fame, including Mario Lemieux, Ron Francis, Mark Recchi, Bryan Trottier, and Paul Coffey. The Penguins most recently made the playoffs in 2022. To date, they've appeared in the playoffs 37 times.

First time in Pittsburgh, had thw best time. My daughter and I loved PPG and the Pens won.
The Seats were outstanding and so was the view. It was great experience for me and my grandson.
Game was great, guy sitting in front of me was too tall, so I had to keep moving from left to right to see percent of the game
We were very pleased with our seats and the cost of the tickets. We had a great view where they shot twice and plenty of room. I would buy these seats again.
World class hockey experience and world class team. The leadership of canadian Sidney Crosby inpires us to try and work harder to create a team that gets results.
This was our 1st Hockey Game. I got my husband tickets for Christmas. It was alot of fun and we will probably go to another one. Seats were awesome. We could see the entire rink.
My friends came up to Pittsburgh from Florida and we finally got to go to a Penguins game together. It was an awesome time! Our seats were great and we won, which was a plus! I just bought another ticket for the game coming up in a few weeks against the Caps!
Will recommend to all Hockey Fans Great fan experience
Had a wonderful time. The employees were amazingly friendly. I really don’t have complaints except for the ticket prices.
PPG Paints arena is a great place to watch hockey. Doesn’t hurt that the Penguins play there!
This was our very first experience with this venue. We went for our first Hockey game. Venue is very well organized, staff are friendly and very helpful. Seating was comfortable (but for those of us 6'5" ... the leg space between rows is an issue) and the view was great. Fairly priced. We plan to be back for more games in the future.
So much fun!!! Crowd was energetic and games were so much fun!!
The game was great! We had do much fun...the crowd was insane It was aSt. Patrick's Day celebration!
I am a huge fan of the Penguins and always enjoy my time at PPG. Great venue, friendly staff, and of course hockey at its finest.
Great game, great experience. Can’t ask for more than that, very happy that doors open 2hrs before the game on weekends.
They need to tell the ushers to stand out of the way when you have standing room tickets the usher in section 234 on Thursday night stood in my way i did toal to a supervisor but he kept getting in my way so i had to move this was my first bad experience at a penguins game
Facility is nice and easy to get through security. Driving there and parking is a pain. Not a bad seat in the house. However drinks and snacks are really expensive. DJ is great.
Great game, and ticket master made it easy to get tickets & check into the event.
Construction traffic was a bit of an issue around the arena. Seats were nice. 2 rows up from front of section. Seating is a bit tight. Not very much leg or arm room. Sharing arm rest with seat next to you.
The boys won 7-3. Loved PPG 1st time there. Easy walk from hotel. Arena is nice. Easy to get around. Nice atmosphere. Helps they won. Loved Pittsburgh definitely coming back again.
