Pittsburgh Penguins History
The Pittsburgh Penguins joined the National Hockey League for the 1967-1968 season during the League's expansion from six to 12 teams. The Penguins played at Civic Arena (nicknamed "the Igloo") until the 2009-2010 season, when they moved to PPG Paints Arena (formerly CONSOL Energy Center).
Postseason appearances have been nearly a birthright for the Penguins and their fans since the 1990-1991 season, after which they won five Stanley Cup Championships. They've won six conference championships and earned the Stanley Cup Champion title in back-to-back seasons (2016 and 2017) with coach Mike Sullivan and the great Sidney Crosby as captain at the helm.
In the 2005 NHL Draft the Penguins selected Crosby as their No. 1 pick. Dubbed “The Next One,” Crosby has spent an historic 18 seasons with the Penguins and entered the 2023-2024 at 25th on the league’s all-time scoring list.
The franchise boasts more than a dozen former players in the NHL Hall of Fame, including Mario Lemieux, Ron Francis, Mark Recchi, Bryan Trottier, and Paul Coffey. The Penguins most recently made the playoffs in 2022. To date, they've appeared in the playoffs 37 times.

Great seat to see all the action! Will definitely buy again!!
Great to see more events coming to Halifax. Great to not have to drive/fly to Ontario or Quebec
My seats were at the top row. The seats were advertised with an unrestricted view, and it had anything but that. I’m quite a tall guy, and with sitting in these seats the game wasn’t watchable on anything on the opposite side of the arena. Very very disappointed.
More than pleased! We have lots of great hockey here with college and Mooseheads let alone great minor hockey! Great to see the big leagues that every minor hockey player aspires to get to!
The game was great. My only complaint is that the scotiabank centre should have opened the doors earlier because the line up’s to get in were way to slow and if they can open early for the moosheads they should have for the NHL.
This Pittsburg Penguins Game against the Ottawa Senators here in Halifax was AMAZING! To have Both teams here on home ice was Spectacular!!
Had a very good experience during this game, was nice to see an actual NHL roster as well during the game.
We waited 55 minutes to get in the arena - my 9 year old and 11 year really wanted to see the Warmup - however were stuck outside in a lineup around the building .. very disappointing experience. We go to every Halifax Moosehead game for the past 4 years and we were at the arena 30 minutes earlier then we normally would be there .
Once inside the venue, everything was great. Barcode wouldn't scan so that took some time to get it fixed, at first they said the tickets were bad and sent us to another area so they could get it figured out.
The event was a great time. Going to PPG Arena is always fun. Highly recommend going to a hockey game there, even if you aren't a fan.
Easy and timely entry into the building. Helpful staff everywhere. A great variety of concessions, food and drinks. Expensive, but at par with many other arenas. The merch store check-in and check-out is efficient. The animation before, during and after the game is lively, while not annoying (like in some other arenas). Great experience
I was not impressed with the credit card system- no cash. The patron will likely always have an unused balance if you purchase food & beverage.
Very easy to access venue, and the parking options were plentiful. The arena itself was clean, organized, and easy to navigate. The best experience I could have asked for!
Its a good atmosphere for families. Kind of expensive but still worth it
Everyone that we interacted with at the arena was very kind. It did not feel like we were in a major city. People smiled and seem genuine. Even the crowd, people were so polite, even the intoxicated ones. Couldn’t have had a better experience.
Sec 217, Row H, Seat 9 (and 10). The 2 seats are angled together so legroom and shoulder room in both seats is cut by a third. Every row in this section and the 3 other corner sections are like this. OK for an child but not an adult. Made the game way less enjoyable. These seats should be discounted.
PPG Paint Arena is an outstanding venue. It is an easy walk from anywhere in the city and plenty of parking close by. Once inside PPG, you won’t be disappointed. Very friendly staff with quick entry into the facility. The arena is roughly 20 years old, but still looks new. Plenty of good food and drink selections. We had a group of 14 including our grandkids. It was a very friendly crowd that made for a mist enjoyable game. I highly recommend this venue to anyone young or old!
The fan base is by far the most electrifying and that’s incredible to be a part of that the great players and just like in football I truly do feel like the 12th man as clutch of member of this roster as Sydney Crosby is and that’s what keeps me coming back
This experience gave me a Zamboner 👍 I wish we lived a little closer so we could go to more games
We have been pens fans our whole life and this was the first time we’ve travelled to Pittsburgh to watch them. The atmosphere at the PPG arena was insane. Better than any leaf game that I’ve attended.
