Pirates was much funnier than I expected. The cast was incredible and the music was beautiful. I would totally recommend this show!

Glad I was able to see a classic

by stilettolady37 on 2/13/12Fox Performing Arts Center - RIVERSIDE

'Pirates' has been described as an opera, but this seemed (to me) to be clearly a musical. The sets were minimal, and costumes appeared in need of a bit of care (the Velcro holding Frederic's boot together was clearly coming apart) but that didn't really take away from the enjoyment. Carol Winston's high notes as Mable were crisp and beautifully on pitch, and I found her to be the high point of the show. The orchestra sounded fantastic, and were very charming as they raised their bows/batons/etc to wave to the audience from the depths of the orchestra pit. I was told the Fox Theater recently underwent remodeling, which there was no indication of, and the interior was lovely. The theater itself was easily accessible. Overall, I'm glad I got to attend the performance of a classic story in a beautiful venue.

    Pirates

by RedlandsReviewer on 2/13/12Fox Performing Arts Center - RIVERSIDE

The performance was uneven. The Maj. General couldn't get in sync with the orchestra and many of the lyrics were mumbled. Overall it was an enjoyable performance in the original spirit of Gilbert and Sullivan.

Pirates Of Penzance brought back memories

by LoveFoxTheater on 2/13/12Fox Performing Arts Center - RIVERSIDE

I took my 16 yr old daughter to this play because I wanted to introduce her to some of the things that have stuck with me since childhood. She loved it! We both did. Can't think of anything we didn't like about this play. Music was wonderful. The characters were excellent. Would love to see more of Gilbert & Sullivan plays here. Maybe the Micado?! Hint Hint.
