Phoenix Suns History

As Arizona's original professional sports franchise, the Phoenix Suns were established in the NBA in 1968 and for the last 30 years have been entertaining fans in downtown Phoenix at Footprint Center. The rich history of the franchise includes some of most memorable teams in NBA history, including the 1975–76 "Sunderella Suns," the 1992–93 team that featured Charles Barkley and reached the NBA Finals, and the "Seven Seconds or Less" era teams, during which Steve Nash was twice named the league's MVP.

Enshrined in the Suns’ Ring of Honor are Alvan Adams, Barkley, Tom Chambers, Jerry Colangelo, Walter Davis, Cotton Fitzsimmons, Connie Hawkins, Kevin Johnson, Dan Majerle, Al McCoy, John MacLeod, Nash, Joe Proski, Dick Van Arsdale and Paul Westphal.

The Phoenix Suns had a successful 2020–21 season, winning the Western Conference and narrowly falling in the NBA Finals to the Milwaukee Bucks. The Suns ended the 2021–2022 season with a franchise record of 64 wins and finished with the NBA's best record by eight games above the second best, the league's largest differential in 22 years. They also made back-to-back appearances in the Western Conference semifinals in 2022 and 2023.

    Phoenix Suns at GM place

by shumandy on 10/23/09General Motors Place - Vancouver

This is the 2nd time Phoenix Suns played a pre season game in Vancouver. And again they lost even though people embraced Phoenix as Vancouver's home team because of Steve Nash. Phoenix was never in the game and lost by a big margin. There was nothing to cheer about if you considered yourself a Phoenix fan. Age has definitely caught up with Steve. Honestly think the team was much faster and more fluent running the ball when he was on the bench.

    Steve Nash in the House

by Hucksta on 10/23/09General Motors Place - Vancouver

It was fun watching this game, Steve Nash, Brendan Roy, Amare Studemire...... Is was disappointing for the feeling that there is no sense of urgency as its a pre season game. Good to see BB Ball fans come out. HELLO!!!!!!! Sold Out. My favorite part was when the fans started to chant. "Let's Go Grizzlies, Let's go...." then "We want Nash....." when he didn't play in the second half. Then he threw his shoes to the audience............. then they chanted..."Give him shoes, Give him Shoes.........."

Basketball, NBA style, has an audience in Vancouver. Having Steve Nash there brings it over the top.

I wish the tennis gardens had better food and more of a variety of food. Other than that it was great and I plan on going again next year if they have this event.

    parking sucks!

by THEEBeets on 10/13/09Indian Wells Tennis Garden - Indian Wells

The game was great; the venue is amazing; the outside atmosphere was remarkable; but...parking SUCKS! If you go, go early. Me and my wife went and waited in line for an hour trying to get parking. The facility only has one entrance to their humongous parking lot! We missed the entire first quarter, and, because we didn't want to get stuck in traffic on the way out (we have a 3-month-old baby who gets cranky in the car), we left halfway through the 4th quarter and missed the end of the game. If I didn't make myself clear -- PARKING SUCKS! Go early, or park across the street and walk to the event. If the parking didn't suck so bad, I'd easily give this event 5 stars. Suns rock!

Exciting to watch basketball played outdoors!

by cheerleader2 on 10/13/09Indian Wells Tennis Garden - Indian Wells

We arrived early for the pregame activities and to enjoy the beautiful evening. It was exciting to see the team playing outdoors. The court looked the same, the cheerleaders dancing and the game activities for time-outs would make you think you were at US Airways Center but then we looked around at the surroundings and realized - we were outdoors! Our first team played well but our second team needs to be on the same page. Barbosa didn't have his explosiveness with the teammates he was with on the court. We thought #12 was exciting to watch and given a chance would be a heads up ball handler. It was disappointing to lose but also realize that Coach Gentry wants to see what he has to work with and how they interact with each other in an actual game situation. Look forward to an exciting season!

Outdoor Game was great for kids

by lazlo8 on 10/13/09Indian Wells Tennis Garden - Indian Wells

I brought my three boys to the Suns game at Indian Wells and we had a great time. We arrived at 3:30 to participate in the interactive activities. They had a full court set up outside with freethrow shooting and other games for attendees. There was also an area with different hoop heights where my kids could practice their dunks and shots. My kids had a blast at this event. They won shirts and hats and bobbleheads. We were hoping to get a chance to get player autographs, but that never happened. Still, the interactive pre-game activities made the experience extra fun. It was also great seeing a game played outdoors. It was a beautiful evening and we all had a great time.

    Weather was great this year.

by Paiute on 10/12/09Indian Wells Tennis Garden - Indian Wells

Don't like Lakers, or LA traffic. We go to Phoenix to watch our team the Suns. Having someplace to watch them win which is closer to home is great. Would like more games in our area. Thank you. Was sad not to see Matt Barnes.

    Great experience

by DubZ on 10/12/09Indian Wells Tennis Garden - Indian Wells

Wonderful weather, great environment and nice to catch a game outdoors for the first time. The stadium is setup great for watching basketball and there is just something wonderful about watching the game without a roof over your head. We had box seats, but I think even the cheaper seats would have been fine in this stadium. I would highly recommend this game if it returns next year.

by halos on 10/11/09Indian Wells Tennis Garden - Indian Wells

My wife and I had a wonderful time. It was cool to see professional basketball teams willing to play in the Indian Wells Tennis Gardens. I think it brings fun to the Coachella Valley without having to drive hours away to see a great game.

    FIX THE PARKING

by EBoy on 10/11/09Indian Wells Tennis Garden - Indian Wells

Unlike the well organized parking system for the annual BNP Indian Wells Tennis event the management really screwed up the parking for the Suns game. Had they opened up a second access point to the parking area the traffic would have flowed much more quickly. Many patrons made an unnecessary 360 degree loop around the facility.

    Fun Night

by LisafromVermont on 10/11/09Indian Wells Tennis Garden - Indian Wells

My husband was flying in from Vermont and he is a basketball lover so I bought tickets. His plane was delayed and we did not get to the stadium until half time and we still had a wonderful time. A class act!! Keep this event going for years.

    Good Game Bad Parking

by yvsunsfan on 10/11/09Indian Wells Tennis Garden - Indian Wells

The weather was much better this year and the game was fun. However something has to be done about parking. It took 45 minutes to get parked, last year only took 15.

I was pleased by the venue BUT I thought it was very, very rude not to introdruce the visiting team, in this case the Warriors. I think that there should have been a little enthusiasm for tthe visitors. It showed no professionalism or respect.
