Great performances, talented voices, great production values. The orpheum is a neat old theater and always a pleasure. All in all, I was very satisfied! Violetta's silly faces while singing were about the only distraction for me.
The quality of the performance was great! The artists were fabulous an the set and production was the best one yet we have seen in the Valley.
Beautiful sets and costumes. Stunning vocals. The Orpheum in a breathtaking facility. Some struggle to hear solo voices sometimes is my only reason for not giving 5 stars. Bravo Phoenix Opera!
men must be thought that beauty is a necessity. it was beautyfull and heart warming and the singers where great. when singers give what they have inside that is a real gift to the audience. loved it all
Although it was a bit long (4 parts), it was great! I was a little disappointed in the lack of an audience but I'm assuming that was due to the price of the show. A bit high in my opinion. However, the music, vocals, and set was amazing and I thought it was worth it. Besides, how can you go wrong with the opera in Pretty Women?
Arizona Opera's attempt at Verdi's La Traviata was hampered by uninspired conducting and a small but too loud orchestra that played poorly. Having said that, the sets were stunning, worthy of any company's production. Julia Koci and Jesus Garcia sang beautifully, when they could be heard. The production suffered from many gaffs reflecting under rehearsal with missed vocal lines, searching spotlights, and clumsy staging. The second act ballet (what there was of it) was totally uninspired and there was some strange miked sound that sounded like a fan hitting a microphone throughout the gypsy entrance and dance. Acting of the principals was pretty uninspired but at least Violetta and Alfredo looked beautiful together. With a better orchestra, more passionate conducting, and lower orchestral volume this could have been a really lovely Traviata.
What a delightful way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Phoenix Opera Company's performance of The Magic Flute was beyond delightful. From the moment the curtain opened revealing a breathtaking set, until the final moments when the entire cast was assembled on the stage, we were highly entertained. The voices were strong and there was not a weak voice among them. Jennifer Nagy was especially brilliant as Pamina. Her voice is exceptional and she handles vocal dynamics with finesse. Vale Rideout as Tamino was outstanding. The chemistry between Pamino and Tamino was convincing and their voices blended beautifully. Kevin Burdette, as Papageno was absolutely delightful. His comedic presence along with his exceptional voice was a winning combination.
EXCELLENT PRODUCTION. CAST WAS SUPERB. SET WAS AWESOME, LIGHTING AND SOUND BROADWAY QUALITY.
