About

Philadelphia Wings at Wells Fargo Center

The City of Brotherly Love has had a love affair with indoor lacrosse for nearly half a century, and the Philadelphia Wings continue this tradition of excellence. The Wings play out of the Wells Fargo Center, which opened in 1996 as the CoreStates Center, and seats up to 19,346 for hockey and lacrosse. They are coached by Paul Day, who has 22 years of experience as a player and a coach, in addition to 27 years experience off the field as a law enforcement officer.

Philadelphia Wings History

The original Philadelphia Wings played two seasons in the original National Lacrosse League, playing their first game at the Spectrum on May 19, 1974, mere hours after the Philadelphia Flyers won their first Stanley Cup on home ice. The original Wings featured such players as John Grant Sr., and former Flyers goalie Doug Favell, and were one of the more stable teams in the league, which only lasted until 1975. When the Eagle Pro Box Lacrosse league formed in 1987, the Wings were the only team name to be revived, and John Grant Sr. would become the only player to have played for the first two iterations of the Philadelphia Wings. Many legends of lacrosse would play for these Wings, including twins Gary and Paul Gait, player and coach Tony Resch, and Jake Bergey, the son of legendary Eagles linebacker Bill Bergey.

The Wings dominated what would become the Major Indoor Lacrosse League and finally the NLL throughout the '90s, winning six titles from 1989 to 2001, and forming bitter rivalries against such teams as the Buffalo Bandits and Toronto Rock. In 2014, the Mohegan Tribe purchased the franchise and moved them to Uncasville, Connecticut, to become the New England Black Wolves. Philadelphia was without indoor lacrosse from 2014 to 2017, when Comcast Spectacor (the owner and operator of both the Wells Fargo Center and the Philadelphia Flyers) formed an expansion franchise which played their first game on December 15, 2008. After finishing 4-14 in the 2019 season, the Wings equaled their previous season's win total six games into the 2020 NLL season. After returning from the Covid-19 hiatus, the modern franchise earned its first playoff berth in the 2021-2022 season and now has its sights set on securing a league-leading seventh championship.

    First Game

    by B-Su on 3/3/24

Yesterday (March 2, ‘24) I took my 9yr old twin boys to their first Wings game and they had an awesome time!!! Parking was only $25 and we parked in the front row in front of the Wells Fargo Center. The staff from the beginning were so nice and very helpful. We sat in Section 101 Row 17 and that put us in between both benches. They were perfect seats without any site restrictions. I had to zoom my camera out all the way to get a picture of the whole playing field! During warmups both my boys received a ball from the players and the energy was awesome from the beginning!!! They play lacrosse and thought it was awesome to watch pro players play!! I feel it was worth every penny and we will definitely be attending more games!!! I highly recommend if you have children in lacrosse.

It was a fun family friendly event. Parking was easy, the seats were great, the team (players, coaches, and staff) were so friendly and engaged with their fans. My boys had such a good time and can't wait to go back!

    Great time!

by NewFan on 2/5/24Wells Fargo Center - Philadelphia

Had a really great time at the Wings game! Got the tix to try something new (husband played lacrosse in high school) and we both had a great time! Game was fast paced and exciting, rules were straightforward to understand, fans were enthusiastic and knowledgeable. All the accouterments you’d want for a professional game (Jumbotron well done, mascot, dancers, etc). Arena was filled enough to be fun, but wasn’t full so easy to get in and out and to get food etc. Ticket prices were very reasonable. We are definitely going to come back!

    Not great

by OldSchool95er on 2/4/24Wells Fargo Center - Philadelphia

To be honest, it wasn't a great experience for the money. And id rather se more seats closer to the field instead of a party zone

    Eh

by Darby on 1/30/24Wells Fargo Center - Philadelphia

The game itself was great. The wings played hard. I was annoyed with parking situation. Handicap parking was so far away from the entrance. Then, when we got to an entrance after waiting in the cold we were told that it was the premier entrance only. Well that was not labeled anywhere at all and my partner is disabled, we already had to walk far to get to that entrance now we had to walk even further to get to the main entrance. We were able to Ada seating which was nice and those people were very helpful. However, being in ADA seating we didn’t the opportunity to participate in anything like the T-shirt toss or the hotdog toss or trivia or when the players were throwing lacrosse balls to the audience. We are so far away we get left out of that kind of stuff.

    Not like I remember!

by Disappointed former season ticket holder on 1/30/24Wells Fargo Center - Philadelphia

Not the same Wings that I had season tickets for in the 90's and up until they moved to Mohegan Sun! Hits aren't hard, runs aren't end to end and energy level is flat. Announcing is garbled, music horrible and the crowd ( the few that are there) aren't in to it like they used to be when it was a sell out. 2 W-I-N-G-S chants that you couldn't even hear ( I was in 101) - pathetic! Tickets and concessions are expensive and parking price is ridiculous! Glad we got the tickets when they were running a special. Maybe we'll try again next year.

    Wings game of 1/7/24

by Mike on 1/10/24Wells Fargo Center - Philadelphia

Our seats were in the 4th row of sect. 101. Thinking this would be prime seating in the middle of the field. This was only our 3rd Wings game. We were almost up to the glass behind the visitors and the cameraman. This is an obstructed view and should be noted on your site. Between the coaches and other staff standing on the benches it was hard for us to see what was going on especially in the corners. In addition a stiff neck for looking up at the Jumbotron. Next time I’ll know to be at least 10 rows up. Thank you

    So much fun!

by Fashionmom12 on 1/10/24Wells Fargo Center - Philadelphia

I highly recommend getting you, your family and friends to a Wings game. The games are a lot of fun to watch. The players are always ready to give us a Wings Win! The energy in the stadium is amazing! The Wings dancers are fabulous and perform several times on field. They also are out dancing in the isles throughout the game. They are very sweet and are happy to take pictures with you. The Wings mascot, Wingston is a lot of fun. Wingston is out pretty much the whole time and loves interacting with the fans. During the game they shoot T-shirts out to the crowd and even toss hotdogs to fans. Some games they do an after party and the team comes out to meet their fans. It’s a great time for everyone and pricing is so reasonable. Don’t wait on this. Get tickets and experience the Wings. I bet you become a fan right away.

A great day out for family and sports

by Jeanette on 1/10/24Wells Fargo Center - Philadelphia

The wings always put on a great family day out at Wells Fargo Center. Tickets are relatively inexpensive and they keep the crowd involved and engaged. The music throughout the program is a little bit loud but other than that it’s a great event.
