About

Pet Shop Boys (Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe) are the most successful duo in UK music history. Since signing to Parlophone Records in 1985, they have achieved 42 Top 30 singles in the UK, including 22 Top 10 hits and No. 1s. They have released 12 studio albums, all of which have made the UK Top 10 as well as album charts around the world.

In 2000 they received the Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music and at the 2009 Brit Awards they were presented with the award for Outstanding Contribution to Music.

As writers, producers, and remixers, Tennant and Lowe have collaborated, remixed, or written for a wide range of artists including Dusty Springfield, Lady Gaga, Liza Minnelli, Madonna, David Bowie, Yoko Ono, The Killers, and Girls Aloud.

Pet Shop Boys have also written the West End musical Closer to Heaven with playwright Jonathan Harvey, produced in 2001 by the Really Useful Group. In 2004 they performed their soundtrack to the classic silent film Battleship Potemkin with the Dresden Sinfoniker in a free concert in Trafalgar Square presented by the ICA, and they have since performed it at various spectacular outdoor events in Germany, Spain, and the UK. In 2011 Pet Shop Boys composed a ballet, The Most Incredible Thing, based on the Hans Christian Anderson story of the same title. The project was a collaboration with choreographer Javier De Frutos and Britain’s leading dance theatre, Sadler’s Wells. The ballet won the Evening Standard Theatre Award and was given a second season at Sadler’s Wells the following year.

In 2012 Pet Shop Boys appeared before a worldwide television audience during the London Olympics’ closing ceremony. Two years later, Tennant and Lowe's collaboration with Alan Turing biographer Andrew Hodges, A Man From The Future, received its world premiere as a Late Night Prom concert at the Royal Albert Hall with the BBC Concert Orchestra, the BBC Singers, and narrator Juliet Stevenson.

In their live shows over the last 20 years, Pet Shop Boys have created an original and influential style of pop musical theatre, collaborating with directors, designers, and artists including Derek Jarman, David Alden and David Fielding, Zaha Hadid, Sam Taylor-Wood, and Es Devlin. Their 2009-2011 arena tour Pandemonium was described in a five-star review in The Times as “the ravishing pop spectacle of the year”.

Pet Shop Boys released the album Electric in 2013, produced by Stuart Price. The album received great critical acclaim and gave Pet Shop Boys their highest album chart positions in 20 years in the UK and USA. The accompanying Electric Tour subsequently visited 38 countries over three years and received ecstatic audience and critical reactions.

Pet Shop Boys’ 13th album Super was also produced by Stuart Price and was released worldwide on April 1, 2016. In July 2016, Pet Shop Boys played an exclusive four-date residency entitled Inner Sanctum at the Royal Opera House in London. The concerts were staged by designer Es Devlin and choreographer Lynne Page.

    better than expected

by psbthethe on 9/2/09Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

i have seen the pet shop boys 10 times. some shows like performance were amazing and others were very dull. this show surprised me with its energy and creativity. it is not in the same league as performance but it was a very good show. the dancers were entertaining and the back drop was creative, artisitc and held my interest. the pet shop boys were classy and unique the entire show. it is tough to know what is live and what is pre recorded nowadays but the show was still fun. the songs covered a lot of classics (and good ones at that!!!!) such as go west, always on my mind, suburbia, being boring and kings cross. they played new songs as well but not enough for you to say "i wish they would play some older stuff" they mixed it up quite well. i was actually wondering if i should sell my tickets because i had a very busy week. i was very pleased i did not sell then . i had a great experience. thanks neil and chris. chris h

Totally amazing show-one of the best i’ve seen

by chivas99 on 9/2/09Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

I love their music but didn’t expect the stage show to be so good. A mixture of light show and images on boxes making up a screen. If I lived closer to the city I’d go again tonight!

PET SHOP BOYS - OUTSTANDING SHOW!!

by PGarneau11 on 9/2/09Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

The music was outstanding! They sang all of their classics. Wish the Mezzanine in Hammerstein was located closer to the stage however. We had a great time!

The Pet Shop Boys Still Have It!

by catwomanejk9 on 9/2/09Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

Last night in Manhattan, a porthole opened to the '80s. The Pet Shops were incredible, and all these years later, they STILL sound just like their original recordings. My only caveat is that they didn't need the guest dancers. They were a bit lame and distracting. I guess Neil and Chris feel like they need something else onstage, since they don't dance themselves. But the amazing videos and special effects were sufficient. Don't miss this show!

    not worth it

by Sean74 on 9/2/09Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

Pet Shop Boys were definitely entertaining, but the sound was just horrible. I loved the stage, the dancers, light show, but the most important part of any concert (the sound) was way below average. It's not the way I imagined to see Pet Shop Boys for the last time.

    The Pet Shop Boys Rocked!

by 555577555 on 9/2/09Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

What a fantastic concert! Start to finish, the PSB rocked. The songs were great, as was the show. The concert lasted about an hour and a half - just right.

    Phneomenal show!

by RodneyG on 9/2/09Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

I have been watching PSB in concert for a while now and this is the first time where I have truly been blown away by the originality of the set and the show. The music and mixes created for the shown were outstanding, kudos to the boys for injecting Stuart Price's influence in their live mixes, the sound was incredible. The stage mechanism created with cubes was very original and at times surprisingly scary (you think something went wrong with the set, but it didn't. It's all planned very cunningly by Es Dvling). Go see it, you won't be disappointed.

    Working the bugs out

by PSB11 on 9/2/09Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

The set list was phenomenal - to include Two Divided by Zero, Kings Cross was enough to make the show worthwhile, but adding Being Boring to the encore (which had been left off of their show at the O2 Arena in London) absolutely made the set list. There were some technical problems - bass wasn't coming through until Suburbia (easily midway through the show) and Chris' DJ stand was not functioning properly and was not lighting until long after the show had started as well. The dancers were great, the sound could have been better, the crowd was into it and at just a hair over 90 minutes, I was very sad when the show was over. They are playing again at the same venue tonight, so I suspect they will have worked out some of the technical bugs that would have kept this show from being a five star performance. The Pet Shop Boys are true artists, and they deliver a performance worth watching each and every time.

    Pet Shop Boys didn't disappoint!

by ssk2 on 9/2/09Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

the show was great -- they played songs from their new album in the first half, but second half was their old hits, which the crowd loved. everyone left the show on a total high.

    Absolutely Fabulous, Darling!

by StephanieSays on 9/2/09Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

The Pet Shop Boys were amazing at the September 1st show at Hammerstein Ballroom! They played classic songs like "Heartbeat," "New York City Boy," and several new songs from their new CD. Stand out songs include "Go West," and "Its a Sin." I ws so happy that they played one of my favourite songs, "Being Boring." I won't ruin the surprise for you by writing what song they did as a lead into it. The visuals are stunning and the dancers and back up vocalists were truly outstanding. I am so glad I finally got to see PSB in concert. if you don't have a ticket to see them on this tour, beg, borrow or steal to get one. Any true PSB fan would be kicking themselves if they missed this tour.

    These Boys Rock

by PSB99 on 9/2/09Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

This was the second time that I have seen Pet Shop Boys. The first time was in 1999 for their Nightlife tour. This show was just as good as that show was. It seems, like a fine wine, Neil and Chris get better with age. The thing that made this show more amazing than it would have, is their song selection. Along with fan favorites like West End Girls, It's a Sin and Go West (their Village People cover), they brought out some obscure songs like 2 Divided by 0 and my personal favorite Jealousy. They also played no less than 6 songs from the album, and those songs went over very well, especially the first sing, Love, Etc. Along with still knowing how to sound great, their stange show is another reason to see this wonderful group. With moving sets and a wonderful dance crew, PSB show why they will go down in history as the greatest Euro-pop/dance group of all time, hands down.

    So many hits!

by 80struefan on 9/2/09Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

And they didn't have the time to play them all... Great sound, great set, very good stunt dancers - the audience was a bit quiet at times.

    Nice to be there

by FridaNYC on 9/2/09Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

Although there was an unecessary line to enter the venue it was well organized and not overcrowded. The concert pretty good with a lot of nice to remember songs. The tickets were somewhat overpriced and I woudn't have been there if it wasn't for my promotional ticket.

    PSB in NYC rocked!!

by steelgrave on 9/2/09Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

As far as musical performances, Chris Lowe is still on his game and the blending of hits, separated nicely into distinct "acts", made for one terrific show. In addition, this was the best visual performance presented in NYC since Fischerspooner tore up Webster Hall earlier this year. Neil Tennant's voice remains remarkably unchanged after 25 years and the Pet Shop Boys made a strong case for truly being one of the best and most important bands to emerge from the 80's.

Great show but too short! Why are shows at these venues only 1.5 hr long?

Pet Shop Boys Concert was AMAZING

by ziggypiggy on 9/2/09Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

The concert was an amazing production. It was so fun to not only dance to the music but they had a set up with lights, dancers, special effects that was awesome. I was constantly taking pictures and thinking I wish others were here to see this concert. If you can GO you will love the concert.

    Wonderful and entertaining!

by pagan87 on 9/2/09Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

First the negatives. Doors opened at 6:30pm and they didn't start performing until 8:30pm. The venue was standing room only so two hours standing before the show began, a two hour performance...feet hurt so bad. The positives: Pet Shop Boys were simply amazing! The show was well choreograpghed and there was a very good mix of classic songs and new material. Whenever they performed a new song they backed it up with a classic. My feet hurt but I was dancing all throughout the performance. The tour gear (T-shirts, program, etc.) were all heavily over-priced but overall this was an excellent show that looked nothing like the show they performed in late 2006. Would recommend with absolutely no reservations! Enjoy it!

Pet Shop Boys on their game

by goodmusiclover21 on 9/2/09Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

Awesome. They mixed old and new brilliantly. "It's a Sin" and "Suburbia" were absolutely incredible. The sound could have been a little better. It was great for some of the bigger songs, but seemed muffled for others. I am not sure about all of those boxes though!
