Penn State Nittany Lions Men's Basketball History

Penn State men’s basketball has had many winning moments over the years. They include nine NCAA tournament berths, including a Final Four run, and 11 appearances in the National Invitation Tournament (including two championships since 2009).

Penn State's lone Final Four appearance came in 1954. The Lions were coached that year by Elmer Gross and led by junior Jesse Arnelle, who scored 21 points per game and hauled in nearly 12 rebounds per game. After dropping Toledo, ousting Louisiana State and dispatching Notre Dame, Penn State fell to La Salle in the semifinal, 69-54. The Nittany Lions would go on to beat USC, 70-61, in the national third-place game.

In 2017-18, the Nittany Lions took home an NIT championship. As a No. 4 seed, Penn State knocked off No. 5 seed Temple, No. 1 seed Notre Dame and No. 2 seed Marquette to reach the semifinals, where they romped past Mississippi State. They then beat Utah in the final at Madison Square Garden. In the 2023 NCAA Tournament, Penn State made the second round.

    psu digital tickets

by bob noval on 1/14/20Bryce Jordan Center - University Park

first experience with digital ticket. Everything worked fine with the digital ticket app up until the gate at the arena. PSU better fix their issues before rolling it out to the 100,000 football fans.

    The event was great

I really wish mobile tickets wasn't forced down everybody's throat. Some people like the comfort of a paper stub and not having to worry about service being delayed or something not downloading while others wait in line. Not to mention you give people without smartphones no option to get in.

    Penn State Basketball Game

by Uncle Elmer on 3/13/19Bryce Jordan Center - University Park

Penn State basketball game vs Illinois was fantastic. Bryce Jordan Center is a great location to see a sporting event or attend a concert or even go to a graduation ceremony. Penn State has developed a fine tradition for basketball and I've enjoyed the many games I've attended.

a great game for the 1st time seeing PSU play along with my grandson. The atmosphere was electric, the introductions were fantastic and everything that was done during timeouts and halftime was very enjoyable.

    Watched Michigan beat the lions

by Wtfffffffffff on 2/24/18Bryce Jordan Center - University Park

Venue was nice, seating was good. Good atmosphere. My only complaint was the music was Way to loud before the game and during timeouts. You know it's to loud when you have to scream at the person beside you, so they can hear you. My son covered his ears at times.

    A great afternoon

by nobodyhome on 3/9/17Bryce Jordan Center - University Park

A great place to see a game, Penn State had a strong lead most of the game but almost blew it. But thankfully they pulled through in a nail biter.

State College is a great place

by nobodyhome on 1/31/17Bryce Jordan Center - University Park

State College is unlike any town out there. Not only are there almost endless sporting events but the mountain views beyond the town are amazing. All the sporting facilities are great and Bryce Jordan Center is a fan place to be. If ever in the area check to see if there are other sporting events in the area. Not only did I get to see the basketball game I got a hockey game for $5 at Pegula Ice Arena and a free volleyball game at Rec Hall.
