    Great Concert!!

by NFaye on 7/7/09Nokia Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand Prairie

I am so pleased to see a person doing what he loves to do, sing. Paul is using his God given talent to entertain and inspire others. He is a down to earth person who doesn't mind sharing the stage with others. I loved the aria's that he sung - he hits the high notes right on and he sings with passion. I'll look forward to his next concert.

Difficult to Perform to an Empty Building

by DocDave on 7/7/09Nokia Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand Prairie

I felt sorry for Paul because the auditorium was not even one-fourth filled. He basically sang to a very large, empty building. The event should have been held at a smaller venue, like the Eisemann Center in Richardson, Texas. There was little, if any, advertising about his appearance. I heard about it by chance. Paul's voice is electrifying, but he has very little stage presence. He obviously needs a lot of coaching. Also, he needed some lighting effects and props. The stage was bare and drab. I will never go to another event at the Nokia. Parking was $15, and the cheapest drink, a soda water, was $5. A bottle of plain water was $4. The whole place is a major rip-off.

Paul's voice is like an angel from heaven

by victoria24 on 7/7/09Nokia Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand Prairie

I took my 28 yr old daughter and she wasn't thrilled about opera, at first, until she heard Paul's voice. She loved the show. I absolutely love Paul and Neil's voices. I bought Paul's first CD the first day it came out and almost played it to shreads. I don't like opera either but these two artists are different and my heart melts when I hear Paul's voice.

    Paul Potts and his future

by rocky1 on 7/7/09Nokia Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand Prairie

Paul Potts was superb and could be one of the great tenors of our time. I will see him again when he comes to town. His soprano was spectacular and he should keep her. If Paul Potts is going to make it to the top, he's got to put a little more pizzazz into his show and become more comfortable in his "performer" skin. His humility is one of his endearing traits, but it also seems to hold him back. I can see that he's trying to step up and be the "star" of the show, but I look forward to the time when the light inside of him really starts to shine. I hope it will come as he gains more confidence and grows as an entertainer. In interviews, I've heard him say that he doesn't know how long his popularity will last and how long he'll be doing his shows. He can have a long career singing his heart out as soon as he believes he can and that he deserves it. Today he stands on a very sparse stage with a spotlight on him and sings classical opera. How many men could pull that off? He is simply one of the best tenors in the world. The only thing that separates him from the greatest is that he doesn't know how good he is and he needs to stop being so conservative. It's like he's a little afraid to go outside his own comfort zone of pure, passionate opera. He needs to have a few crowd-pleasers that leave the audience on a real high. A patriotic medley or a few hymns would bring the crowd to their feet. As mundane as it sounds and as contrary to his classical opera, it should not be beneath him to sing some songs that everyone knows and can compare his talent, because there is no comparison. People will jump to their feet and will follow him wherever he wants to go. He just needs to decide where he wants to go and move on. Go get 'em, Paul. Accept your destiny and become the greatest tenor in the world. I'll be waiting to see you again and again. Leave your doubt behind and let your light shine through.

    Paul Potts was wonderful!

by moose54 on 7/7/09Nokia Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand Prairie

Paul Potts concert was amazing. He not only has a wonderful voice that is a gift, but he also conversed with the audiennce between songs giving the concert a more intimate setting. Afterwards we were able to get an autograph and talk for a minute. He is truly humble about this gift he has. We enjoyed the time we spent with him.

    10 stars

by lindalou1949 on 7/7/09Nokia Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand Prairie

Paul Potts was absolutely wonderful last night. I hated for the evening to end, I could have listened to him all night long. It was delightful to have him come out to the lobby after the show for autographs. He talked to everyone and there was no "star tempermental " quality about him - he gave the impression that he didn't care how long we all were there - he wanted to be there for us, his fans. He was just one of us, and was so approachable. Jules came out to the lobby also, and talked to everyone. I wish Paul all the very best and wished that there had been so many people there to listen to his incredible talent. So what if I don't understand a lick of Italian? It was his voice that was draws a person in.

    Paul Potts

by Loves2read on 7/7/09Nokia Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand Prairie

Bought tickets as birthday present for friend---did not realize that there would be other performers with him although I guess I should have. We have seen Potts's performance on YouTube and couple of news clips where he was singing as a special feature. He has an interesting story, but his voice is not as powerful as most other well-known tenors and his stage presence is pleasing but his technique shows signs of strain. We were hoping he would sign Ave Maria which he did not. He also did not sing any of the more well-know Mario Lanza standards although he did a tribute to him. I think he sang one song in English as tribute to his wife--which uses the perspective of a female persona. My husband thought that was little off-putting. (and another song as well) We noticed that when Potts was using his max power on some of his numbers, his hands were clenched and it was not due to the emotionality of the song either. His singing is not effortless--while the guy who sang (Neil someone) had more power than he knew what to do with. Potts would take drinks after every song and it seemed that the initial number he finished early to take a drink (because he was in difficulty). The woman who sang also had a more powerful (and trained) voice than his. They sang one duet and it was something that she either held back on or just did not require the same type of power she demonstrated on her own. She same several songs in Italian and also Nights in White Satin in English. My friend said that she did not think Potts would be successful in US if he did not add English versions to his repertoir. His pronunciation seems off at times--maybe his UK accent-- but it almost sounds like he has a lisp or speech problem which becomes more apparent in certain word combinations. That bothered me more as the concert went on. It was a sparse house for Nokia--another symptom that he is not becoming more than an interesting phenomenum perhaps. Many of the people we heard around us and walking out thoroughly enjoyed the concert and were certainly entertained and commented on how wonderful his voice is. And we did enjoy it--but we also go to Bass quite a bit and there is no way that Paul Potts compares to Wynona and some of the other performers we have seen there. He was very gracious and complementary to the audience and his backup orchestra. Is learning how to make small talk but has some times when he is not that polished or comfortable--but think that fits with his situation and people thought the miscues were part of his charm. Just would not go back to hear him and would not buy his cds---buying his cd is more in recognition of achieving his dream vs his true artistic ability... I just thought his voice was stronger/better when I bought the tickets...

Paul Potts brought his brilliant voice and wrapped it up with his witt and humility. He is a true gem of our time.
