Parker McCollum won't be pigeonholed, and that's by design -- the Texas native is all about paving his own road. He spent his summers working on a cattle ranch for his blue-collar grandfather, who also introduced him to country music. Hearing George Strait's "Amarillo by Morning" for the first time, McCollum was struck. "That is still, to this day, one of my favorite songs, favorite melodies of all time," he told Billboard in 2020. By 13, McCollum began writing songs; by 16, he began playing clubs. For inspiration, he turned to Texas troubadours like Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, Guy Clark, and James McMurtry, lyrical writers who built rich worlds and characters in the confines of a single song. After graduating from high school, McCollum headed to Austin, Texas, the self-proclaimed "Music Capital of the World." A stint in college didn't last -- McCollum spent more time in class writing songs than paying attention. Dropping out, he made a promise to his father: One day, I'll sign a major record deal.
McCollum worked the red dirt circuit for years, playing empty bars that slowly began filling up. He released his first full-length album, The Limestone Kid, on his own label in 2015. McCollum wrote nine of the 11 tracks himself. The Austin Chronicle said, "It's too early to declare The Limestone Kid debut of the year, but it's already one to beat." His follow-up, the self-released Probably Wrong: Session One, was McCollum's first to hit the Billboard charts. Then, after five years of full-time touring, McCollum made good on his promise, signing with Universal Music Group.
"Pretty Heart," his first single with UMG, went straight to the top of the country charts. It appears on his album, Gold Chain Cowboy, the title reflecting McCollum's desire for success -- a man that's earned enough to wear a gold chain -- with the down-home appeal of living as a simple cowboy, just like his grandfather. Chances are, Parker McCollum will have a little of both. After winning New Male Artist of the Year at the 2022 American Country Music Awards, an exciting future awaits.
Loved every minute of this concert. Great venue and great performers! Would definitely go see a show here again.
The balcony was beautiful and comfortable. Well worth it! Great view and great service. All of the staff we interacted in were friendly. The artists were excellent. Had a blast. Look forward to coming back again.
Great show! Very easy to enter with mobile ticket.
The venue was to small over crowded 45 minute wait in line for beer was on second floor seating the acoustics was so bad we couldn’t understand what they were singing just a bad night period!!!!!
Beer lines were a mess to the point that I’d hesitate before visiting this venue again. There were no established way for lines to form; this resulted in a lot of line cutting, frustration and near fights. 😬 Seems like something that should be addressed.
Great time , everyone was friendly, concert was great. Line outside was a little confusing for fast pass versus no fast past but overall great time !
We got there before the doors opened and it was get to see how many came out. It was great, the lighting was great, the only downside was the sound was quite at the beginning and at times was hard to hear over the crowd and I heard many say the same thing. The opener was great and loved seeing Parker!!!
Parker put on a great show! It was extra special seeing him perform in his hometown!
Seeing Parker perform on stage was a life altering experience! He was everything i hoped for AND MORE!!!!
I wouldn't be considered a "legend" in Texas Country music concerts attended, but I have seen my fair share over the last 20 years. This might have been the best concert experience I've ever had across all genres, including back to my old rock and roll concert days. Parker owned the audience, and hearing EVERYONE sing EVERY word to EVERY song he performed was hypnotic. Parker is on the verge of super-stardom- up with the likes of Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, Toby Keith, and others that have bubbled on to the international scene over the last two decades. Maybe you heard that here first, or maybe you already know it. He is going to release a song later this month that he performed (I wish I could remember the name), but it is a ballad that is going to be his "Me and You" (by Kenny Chesney) that will cement him as a bona fide superstar. If I had to give him 9 stars, instead of 10 out of 5, it would be that he didn't play some of his older songs that turned me on to him years ago... South of the City Lights, Galveston Bay, and Misunderstood were a few I was hoping to hear. But, there are only so many minutes in a concert and when you have more great songs than time...well, its a just a math equation. And, not be overlooked was Flatland Calvary who absolute brought it as well. What a night.
Great entertainer. Very humble and appreciative of where he is and how he got here! CoJo was the same way when he first started playing larger venues.
This was an epic experience. The energy at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion was electric. It was easily one of the loudest events I have ever attended, and I am thankful to have been a part of that.
Amazing performance and wonderful staff at woodlands pavilion.
Everything was great! Sound could be a little louder for lawn seats. It was hard to hear the entertainers when they were speaking.
From partying with the guy to seeing him do a show like this is truly incredible. If you haven't see him live do it!
it was such a fun concert and an amazing venue!!!!!!
I love Parker McCollum and flatland Cavalry. The best experience
You can tell Parker is a humble guy. Had a great time hanging out and watching him perform. Very talented singer and guitar player and so is the rest of the band.
I took my two daughters and a friend of their to see Parker McCollum. Parker as well as the two opening acts were awesome. The weather turned to be very pleasant and we had really great seats in the 101 section. Couldn’t have been a better night.
he preformed perfectly, the whole venue was set up amazingly and the overall experience was a 10/10!!! CANT WAIT FOR NEXT YEAR
