my final event of this Pan-Am Games
by hawkeyegrad on 7/27/15General Motors Centre - OshawaI made the most of my time in Toronto at the Pan-Am Games, and some boxing action was a nice way to round out the events I saw there, five in all. I had seen some pro boxing in person, 6 fights at Wilkins Aud. in St. Paul, MN in 2007. But Pan-Am meant amateur boxing, shorter matches, 3 rounds to a match. It meant no knockouts, and mostly split decisions, but I still liked seeing 12 matches (out of 14) that night. It took a while to get there on the train as it was in Oshawa. I also liked making it to the Hockey Hall of Fame and a railroad museum (where I got an elongated coin souvenir) while I was in town, along with touring a micro-brewery and finding the Prince's Gate where the Canadian Nat'l Exhibition is held. My first visit to Canada since a Van Halen concert in Winnipeg in 2004, hopefully I can make it back more quickly this time. I have had to be content with seeing a bagpipe band from Thunder Bay play at Canadian Days in Little Canada, MN.
