What an amazing concert! This was my first time for seeing OTR, but my husband has been following them and been to previous concerts of theirs. We are BIG fans of Lily and Madeleine, as well. Those girls are taking the world by storm! This was also our first time in this theater, which we really enjoyed. It's not as oppulent or over the top with gilding, but has a much more intimate feeling.
A great show as always, in the intimate Lincoln Theater!
Over The Rhine, as always, was amazing. The Lincoln Theatre is also an amazing venue and I'm so glad they choose to play there.
Fantastic show! Amazing musicians!! Will go to their concerts every chance we get!
On the darkest (and wettest) night of the year, we had the good fortune of attending the final concert of Over The Rhine's 2013 tour at the Taft Theatre. It was magical and amazing.
It was a wonderful night - a great mix of music. Brought my daughter who has never seen them and you have a new fan!
Karin and Linford are amazing together. Each year they mature and yet they keep in touch with the essential elements of their music.
This was one of the most immersive and wonderful shows I've ever attended. I was left speechless. This is a hidden gem of a band.
I've seen Over the Rhine half a dozen times, my wife at least twice that - and we have never been disappointed -- always an excellent performance. In additional to their singing/songwriting, they always have great musicians. The Taft in Cincinnati for their Christmas show is probably the best place to see them (they go all out), but the Lincoln is excellent. Not a bad seat in the house; very small venue. Bought the new double CD, it was worth the purchase. Also, enjoyed Mike the Electrician, who opened for them.
Everyone in our party had difficulty picking up the lyrics - beautiful voice but her lyrics were very hard to understand. Fantastic instrumentally.
Karen in bangs and straight hair, performing in a sort of thigh length chiffon thing that looked straight out of a 60s New Year's Eve, woo. More importantly she was in fine voice, although the backups were more electric than OTR's more acoustic show earlier in the fall in Ann Arbor. Some lyrics suffered from the instrumental backup. The songs from the new album are getting better interpretations as they perform them live. The multitalented steel guitar/dobro guy was a great addition, even if he is basically gilding a lily. The music OTR writes and plays defies categories, and they're better live than on recordings. I'm relatively late to their bandwagon, but their shows are wonderful and Karen Berquist is still an American musical treasure.
band was good, songs were good, venue was great, sound was so-so, because it was hard to understand the lyrics of the lead singer.
This is the third time I've seen them. Last time they performed as a duo, but this time they brought a full band again and it was fabulous. They had a steel guitarist who proved that this instrument need not be limited to country & western music. The songs were great, of course, mostly from their most recent two CDs. As usual they did a lot of patter between tunes, but it works because it gives you some insight into the origin of the songs and the band's own origins, not to mention getting you into the right mood. Looking forward to seeing them again!
have loved this band for over 3 years when I first heard them on radio. They are even more yummy in person. They make you feel like you could take them home for a coffee, and a dog walk in the woods! They performed a great mix of ol loved songs & new. Did not miss seeing the world series going on just down the street! Would see them every available chance.
Wonderfully talented and in-sync group, great performance. And oh can Karin sing! One of the best concerts I've attended. (And the venue was amazing too!) My regret was not having tickets for many other friends and family).
OtR has been around for over 20 years, but their songs are still fresh and memorable. In Somerville they played many of their new songs, and a few of their old favorites. Their band is part new this year, and it was tight and excellent as always. I always love their concerts and they are over far too quickly.
I discovered Tift Merritt 3 weeks ago and never heard of Over the Rhine. Both were awesome finds!
Great full band show. Lots of awesome material from the new double album but enough old material for folks who weren't familiar with the new record. Somerville Theater is a good place to see a show. Sound had a little too much bass but overall very good.
Here's the thing... Between his piano playing and her incredible vocals, it's always a great night with this band. We look forward to seeing them whenever they are within driving distance. Unfortunately, there was something "off" at this show. The sound was not right and the bass totally overpowered everything else. The timing seemed a little off too and the band didn't feel cohesive at any point in the show. I'm glad we went and love the quirky little somerville theatre. It just wasn't as good as it usually is
