About

Outlaw Music Festival on Tour

The traveling musical circus that is the Outlaw Music Festival gives rootsy music fans of all stripes a special opportunity for some summer fun. Despite the shifting lineup of artists from year to year, Willie Nelson, naturally, is at the center of each show, and when you're watching him perform you're seeing an American treasure in action. But there's a lot more going on at the festival, as fans have found out over the years. The Outlaw stage has hosted the impassioned R&B/folk/blues amalgam of living legend Van Morrison, the blistering blues-rock sounds that turned the Tedeschi Trucks Band into a musical institution, the freewheeling, jam-happy journey of The Grateful Dead's Phil Lesh and many, many others. For fans of Americana-oriented music, it's tough to think of a better way to spend a summer day (and night), and this festival gives as many people as possible that opportunity by taking it in on the road.

Outlaw Music Festival Background

Spearheaded by no less iconic a figure than Willie Nelson, the Outlaw Music Festival started out in 2016 and turned into an annual shape-shifting celebration of roots-based music's many forms. Dipping into rock, country, folk, blues and bluegrass, the festival has included Alison Krauss, Old Crow Medicine Show, the Tedeschi Trucks Band, Sturgill Simpson, Van Morrison, Brandi Carlile, Sheryl Crow, Phil Lesh and Friends, Robert Plant & The Sensational Shape Shifters, Bonnie Raitt, Counting Crows and plenty more. The Outlaw Village that's a part of each event date gives fans a chance to enjoy local foods and crafts and to commune with fellow music lovers while they're not busy being bowled over by what's happening onstage. Not every artist at The Outlaw Music Festival is American, but they're all profoundly influenced by the many strands of music that make up the Americana tapestry.

Bands were amazing. Wonderful lineup. Van Morrison did not disappoint. Venue was great. I was worried about parking with the reviews I read. We got there early and left late. No issues at all!

    Highs and lows

It was worth it to see Van Morrison and Brandi Carlile. It was good to see Willie, but it was short. He is 84 or 85. Keybank is still one of .. no take that back.. it is the worst venue I have ever been to.

    Van Morrison!

by rockmary on 9/10/18KeyBank Pavilion - Burgettstown

Was the reason my husband and I came to this festival. Neither of us are country fans at all. We were hesitant to commit to such a long day just for an hour of Van The Man, but then Tom decided it was bucket-list time, lol. This venue is fine in and of itself, but somewhat logistically a nightmare to get to and then park in. Still, they do the best they can. Patience is your friend. Luckily for us that week's Pittsburgh horrid heat wave turned over to normal summer weather, and we decided to not go until 5 or so......It all worked out, and Van was more like 90 minutes, and in great voice. We heard some Willie out of respect, but left early to avoid a rush; although, so did many others, so........All in all it was A Good Time. PS: Star Lake, your drink prices are CRAZY high!

    Van Morrison's still got it!

by Gruubs on 9/10/18KeyBank Pavilion - Burgettstown

All the bands played great sets. Every band came on stage as scheduled. Sturgill Simpson was a very pleasant surprise. Van Morrison still has a great voice and excellent timing. He still plays the Sax and Harmonica. Very enjoyable day!

    Van Morrison was fabulous

by FrankieVCHS on 9/10/18KeyBank Pavilion - Burgettstown

Great show, mainly went to see Van Morrison. It was well worth the 45 year wait to see him. The venue was well organized in the seats under cover in making sure that only those with tickets for a specific section could enter. This is important for safety. Thank you

    Low Attendance

    by terpfan00 on 9/10/18KeyBank Pavilion - Burgettstown

Th weather wasn't the best but I think the show was a bust. Half the stadium was empty. The main act I wanted to see was Van Morrison. Huge disappointment. He should stop touring - couldn't understand most of the lyrics. The music was good and if you paid attention to that instead of his singing, it was enjoyable for the 90 minutes.

    Outlaw Music Festival

by JosieDelaney on 9/10/18KeyBank Pavilion - Burgettstown

Able to get through the gate quickly this time but not sure what the point of walk through metal detectors are when you’re bag doesn’t go through it and they don’t check the bags in any way. Enjoyed the additional vendors set up inside, prices for their items were reasonable and items were unique. Drink/alcohol costs were way overpriced as always. I don’t need fancy palm tree cup, put it in a regular cup and knock a few dollars off the $16 drink. Was disappointed in Van Morrison’s playlist, if you haven’t played somewhere in 30 years then you should play your biggest hits. None of the artists came back out for an encore. Willie is still performing at 85 so maybe that’s why but Van Morrison and other artists could have come out for one instead. Overall still glad I got to see Van Morrison and will always come see Willie Nelson.

    Willie Brings it on home

    by rickster1955 on 9/10/18KeyBank Pavilion - Burgettstown

A very seasoned concert goer,i jumped on this opportunity to see willie again and the elusive VAN MORRISON.The venue is one of the best in the country.Great service ,super clean, and with a smile. We got into our seats as lukas nelson and promise of the real were belting it out.The set change was amazing,as the speed they did it in.Next was surprise for me Brandi Carsile. She brought the crowd to its feet with every song.A super bouncy energetic lady who is far under rated. Next was sturgill simpson and again the rock n roll /country he provided was well recieved and very tight band.Next was the main reason for attending.Van the man flanked by a 10 pc band dressed in silver pinstriped suit, brought his game of 50 plus years to the masses.Every bit the laid back, almost at times steamy night club vibe van sang and played the sax like a man of 25. The big hits GLORIA and BROWN EYED GIRL were worth the total price of admission indeed. He worked the crowd and after a blistering 90 minute set exited as graceful as he entered the stage. A true classic rock legend. Last up was willie and family. This was my 10th willie show in the 40 plus years and perhaps one of the best.A tired crowd rose to standing ovations as as he opened to the familiar notes of Whisky River. His sons Mica and Lukas ,sister bobby, and band played with the prescision that willie has done for the 50 years of his career.Son lukas backed by willie and family belted out the Stevie Ray Vaughn classic Texas Flood to the delight of the crowd. We heard many Willie classics and then ended the festival with the traditional Will The Circle Be Un broken. At 84 this man picked his beat up guitar like that of a 20 yr old. Thank you for another incredible evening of country rock at its best

    my was bucket list

by LuvHera on 9/10/18KeyBank Pavilion - Burgettstown

Concert was excellent. Each act was wonderful. Couldn't believe how much Lucas Nelson sounds like his dad. He was great. First time to see him, Brandi Carlisle and Willie live. What a treat. I never thought I would ever get to see Van Morrison once, let alone twice. I saw him about a year ago in Nashville. He was on my bucket list. So to get to see him again was truly special. My friend with me said that his mouth hurt from smiling so much during Van's show. The transition between each act was amazing quick. The show was kept on perfect schedule. Only complaint is exiting the venue. But after all these years, I assume they are never going to add another exit. One exit for that many people is ridiculous.

    Outlaw Festival

by BrianTed on 9/10/18KeyBank Pavilion - Burgettstown

The music at the Outlaw Music Festival was fantastic and unforgettable and now one I can cross off my bucket list. The venue, however, was equally fantastic and unforgettable, but for the opposite reason. The seating stunk in the pavillion; the traffic access and egress worse. I'll probably never go to another concert there. After more than two decades of that venue being in operation, they have not improved one part of the customer experience.

What an incredible show! The time between sets was minimal, very organized. Van Morrison was so cool and smooth. Of course Willie was amazing. The other bands were great, but Van & Willie are who I came to see
