Ottawa REDBLACKS History

The Ottawa REDBLACKS are a professional football team in the Canadian Football League (CFL). The REDBLACKS are the third CFL team to call Capital City their home, and upon their founding in 2014, ended Ottawa’s nearly decade-long run without a professional football team. In 2016, the team brought the Grey Cup back to Ottawa for the first time in 40 years, becoming the fastest Canadian-based expansion franchise to win a championship in a North American professional sports league with three seasons played. Ottawa has also claimed three East Division titles, in 2015, 2016 and 2018. Across its first ten seasons, the REDBLACKS roster has featured two Most Outstanding Canadian Award winners, one Most Outstanding Player and one Most Outstanding Defensive Player.

Ottawa REDBLACKS at The Stadium at TD Place

The Stadium at TD Place Stadium has been the home of the Ottawa REDBLACKS since 2014, though its history dates back to the city’s first CFL team, the Ottawa Rough Riders. Opened in 1908 as a stadium surrounding a playing field built in the 1870s, the former Lansdowne Park has hosted matches for football, soccer and rugby as well the Summer Olympics and outdoor hockey exhibitions. The 24,000-seat venue hosted its seventh Grey Cup championship game, and first as TD Place Stadium, at the 105th matchup in 2017. At home games for the Ottawa REDBLACKS, fans can cheer along with the team’s lumberjack mascot, Big Joe.

    Awesome Day

    by Peter on 7/18/23

Went to Redblacks game with realistic expectation that they would probably not win given how strong Winnipeg is this season. Regardless, we have to support our local boys as they rebuild and improve. Venue was great, good atmosphere and love CFL football. Fact that Ottawa turned it around in last few minutes and won in OT was a thrilll for everyone who had not left with a few minutes remaining. Was a great and memorable outing. Go Redblacks!!

    Redblacks Rock

    by Janimal on 7/3/23

Had a great time watching the home team win, lots of fun people is the stands made for an entertaining night. The band during half time was god awful, singing was flat and off key but the fireworks at the end of the game for Canada Day was epic🍁🇨🇦🍁

    Redblacks Football

by Booch on 9/27/22TD Place Stadium - Ottawa

I’m an Argo fan who travelled to Ottawa for the game between the Argos and Redblacks. TD Place Stadium is a great place to watch a game. The sight lines make the game easy to see. The concessions are reasonable in price and good quality. The home town fans are generally pretty easy to get along with. Overall, I had a fantastic time and wouldn’t hesitate to return to Ottawa for more Redblacks games.

by Pete on 9/13/22TD Place Stadium - Ottawa

We went to the RedBlack's game vs Toronto. Great Crowd, great weather. The fans were lively and it was an excellent outing with daughter and grand children. There was a shortage of water bottles at the concessions, but the beer was cold !

pathetic offensive play calling throughout game

by Rich on 8/8/22TD Place Stadium - Ottawa

boring, no offense, play calling defeatist and poor. Calls were as if we had 4 down football. Head coach must be let go. Will not see another game this year.

    Field seats

by Visitor on 7/26/22TD Place Stadium - Ottawa

What a fabulous surprise to have food and drinks included with our tix and access to the field after the game. The game was great to watch. Our seats were field 1 on the goal line. Our only complaint was that the cheerleaders were standing at the end zone during the game (not during a dance or performance) and we couldn’t see past them to see the touchdowns. While we loved their energy and performances, we didn’t love having to look over them to see the best part of the game and the reason why we chose those seats.

    A nice place to go!

by Luke Montreal on 7/24/22TD Place Stadium - Ottawa

Honestly, it was my first time to see a Red and Black football game at their location and i really enjoy it. Almost everything from the free bus to go to the stadium, the neighborhood, the stadium itself and most important the crowd ambiance. It is very lively with a lot of actions during pause. Even it is my team from Montreal wins, it was a great event and i was happy to be there.
