An epic global stadium tour, a 3-D concert film that grossed close to $70M in ticket sales worldwide, and the November 2013 release of their third studio album, Midnight Memories, the young boys of One Direction have proved that they're more than just a flash in the Brit-pop pan.
One Direction burst onto the scene in 2011 after having formed before the world's eyes on the British singing competition The X-Factor. English lads Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson and Irish chap Niall Horan each signed up for the show as a solo act but were ultimately convinced that they'd be much more successful as a group.
The boys clicked immediately and have been tearing up the charts ever since. 1D made history when their first studio album, Up All Night, debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 in the U.S., and their follow up, Take Me Home, topped the charts in over 30 countries. The band is known for their bright and catchy dance-pop sound, their boundless energy on stage, and their clean and preppy fashion style
Was never able to go to a 1d concert, breaks my heart forever. Now our Payno is gone, still feels unreal. These boys saved my life❤️. I will be forever thankful but heartbroken that I never got to see all 5 on stage. Rest in peace payno, we love and miss you so much.

I saw one direction live over 10 years ago, and it was the best experience of my life. I just wanted to say, Liam, you made this little girls childhood so fulfilling, and you still continue to do so. I love you so much and I hope you rest well🕊️
RIP Payno. I don't know but I am still grieving. Been a Directioner since 2012. All I listen to before is One Direction (and a little bit of 5SOS). Thank you for saving me from loneliness before. Why can't you guys just come back already we've been patiently waiting and no we have gotten no response. You final performance was in December of 2015 and it has been nearly 9 years. You no very well that we will always wait for you and me saying this is a lie but I CAN'T WAIT ANY LONGER. In some world maybe you wouldn't have had such terrible management and you would have been treated better than you were. In another life maybe Simon Cowell hadn't taken control of your guys' lives completely, you would've been able to breathe and be yourselves without the worry of getting in trouble. There are interviews where you can literally see the discomfort in your eyes and its hard to watch. You can see how tired you guys were. You can see that towards the end of your time as a band, you all were drained and out of it. If you had kept going it would have killed you and we know that. All we wish for is for a place or time where you can be together and be yourselves without the constant control of your management. We know that some day you will come back to us, maybe not as the band you once were, where you had fun and messed around, being kids with your friends. But what we do know, is that you will come back and be better than ever. Plus, when Simon says he doubts you guys will ever reunite, he's just spiteful that he won't make any revenue off your guys' happiness ever again because he gave you the freedom to own your band. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but some day, we will see and meet you guys again. When you are together as 1, not separated as 5. When I got TikTok I never expected what would happen next. About a week into having TikTok, I saw a video of you guys singing 'Right Now' at San Siro stadium. I was SO mesmerized by what you guys accomplished that night I decided to look into your band even more. Then I began to slowly fall in love with more and more of your music. When I was a little girl maybe 5 or 6, just after you guys had gone on HIATUS, I would non-stop listen to 'One Thing', 'Story of My Life', 'Drag Me Down', 'What Makes You Beautiful', and some other songs I can't quite remember which ones though. Although as I grew up I started to lose my interest in you guys and start listening to more of other artists music, for example one was Taylor Swift. Then, as I stated before I got TikTok and fell in love with you guys. Now my entire life is surrouded by you guys. Not just because you make amazing music and are great people, but because you SAVED me, and many others along with it. I was slipping away and not being myself when I discovered you guys. You pulled me out of a bad time and brought ME back. Before I found you guys, I didn't really know who I was who my real friends were or anything. But I moved to a new friend group a little after discovering you guys again. One of the girls in my friend group loves One Direction like I do and also love your guys' solo careers. Listen all of us will always support you guys on whatever you choose to do, but we just want to see you guys together again. Even if it means we never get the band back. If we could just get a reunion like the friends reunion and you guys are friends and like each other again, just knowing that you guys are friends and don't hate each other or anything would be enough. I'll always be hoping and wishing for a reunion but as long as you boys are happy it won't matter. if being together brings up to many bad memories or something, don't do it. Don;t let us pressure you into something you aren't ready for. When you're ready, you're ready, if that's never that's okay. The day that One Direction reunites or tells us what really happened is the day my life is complete.But again I'll tell you guys, DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU AREN'T READY. Don't let us push you to do something that you might later regret. I think that anyone who cares about you boys would agree with me on this. We don't want a reunion if it doesn't make you happy, although most of us really want a reunion we want your happiness more than anything else. If that means you boys just carry on with your solo careers then so be it. But we will always love and support you guys, no matter what you decide to do. I don't know if you guys ever realized just how much we love you, on JUST Spotify alone, you have 43.5 MILLION monthly listeners after 9 years of making no new music. Almost all of your fans have stayed loyal over all these years and that's a hard thing to do. But we will always stand by you. I will always defend Liam, Harry, Niall, Zayn, and Louis in any situation. No matter how hard it may seem, even when all hope might seem lost, you'll always have us. If you ever think that you aren't loved or that people hate you, please, [lease, please always remember that we have your backs and you have each other to turn to. You aren't alone and you have those experiences that no one else will ever know. You have a bond that could never be broken. Remember, you are in this together.

I miss them a little extra today 🫶🏾 so happy I chose them as the ppl I looked up to & put so much time & energy into when I was 12-16 they made a huge impact on my life. I’m so appreciative of the small things I learned as a fan & the memories I made. I’ll forever & always be here ❤️
I went to the the concert back in 2013. To this day it’s the most amazing concert of my life. Absolutely life changing. I MISS YOU GUYS COME BACKK!!

I went to a one direction concert when I was tiny and turns out it was the last ever concert zayn was going to do. I miss them and me and my sister will always hope on their anniversary that they'll do one last tour together!! 💙💚😉😉😉☺️☺️☺️
