Oklahoma State Cowboys Men's Basketball at Gallagher-Iba Arena
The Oklahoma State Cowboys are a hard-charging team with a long history and a lethally loyal fan base. Coached since 2017 by Mike Boynton, the Oklahoma State Cowboys have appeared in six Final Four series and have won two NCAA and four conference tournament championships. Oklahoma State plays in Gallagher-Iba Arena, which was built in 1938 as the 4-H Clubs and Student Activities Building and was renamed Gallagher Hall after the beloved wrestling coach Ed Gallagher. Most recently renovated in 2000, the venue was renamed Gallagher-Iba to honor influential head coach Henry Iba. The arena seats 13,611 and is also the home of the NCAA women's division Cowgirls basketball.
Oklahoma State Cowboys Men's Basketball History
Oklahoma State's basketball program dates back to 1908, when the school was known as Oklahoma A&M College and the team was the Aggies. The university became Oklahoma State in 1957 and joined the Big Eight the same year -- midway through the 36-year tenure of Henry Iba, who started coaching basketball at A&M in 1934 and stayed until 1970. Under his tenure, the team reached the Final Four four times and won the championship twice. Coach Iba was known for an inventive and fearless defensive strategy that prized low-scoring games of endurance and perseverance using the "swinging gate" defense. In 1990, former Cowboy Eddie Sutton took the reins, taking Oklahoma State to the Sweet 16 his first year and to the Final Four twice more in 1995 and 2004, for the first time since the '40s.
More than two dozen Cowboys have gone on to play in the NBA, including NBA All-Defensive First Team 2019 member Marcus Smart, NBA champions Tony Allen, Terrel Harris and Corey Williams, and NBA All-Star John Starks. In 2001, a plane crash in Colorado during a snowstorm killed two Cowboys players and several staff members, plus the pilot and copilot, who are honored every year at an event called "Remember the Ten."
The Cowboys' rivalry with the University of Oklahoma transcends the sport of basketball and is known as the "Bedlam Series," named for the intense competition of the wrestling teams in the old Field House. The basketball rivalry between the two Big 12 teams dates back to 1907, and the Cowboys have swept the series multiple times since 2017.
AWESOME EXPERIENCE... Nothing like a packed house in GIA for a huge game.
Game was great, but the event was oversold and could not see most of the first half due to people standing in isles looking for any open seats. We were told by event security that they were instructed to send General Admission and STudent tickets to any seat eventhough it was sold out resulting in islesbeing consantly filled by standing people.
Overtime victory for the home team and Gallagher-Iba Arena was loud like the old days. Hopefully both teams will be more competitive in years to come.
GIA is the best arena in the country when it's rocking!
Its our court and if you don't like us storming it I guess you better WIN the game
OSU fans brought the team back to win by 5 points in overtime. Had great seats to watch the best game I've ever seen.
The worst officiating I hve ever seen in 40 years of watching sporting events.
The best available seating for the ticket price selected ended up being equivalent to a general admission ticket that was $10 cheaper. We had to buy a ticket for an infant and found the general admission ticket was located in a 300 corner section, like ours, and on the same row as our pre-purchases tickets. Plus, there was a lot of open seating available in lower rows of the same section. After half time we moved to lower open seats. Next time I will not use ticketmaster and just walk up and buy general admission tickets at the ticket office.
Senior nite amazing game even though OSU lost GREAT game for KETON PAGE!!!
Game was great the officials were very inconsistent. The officials for the big Xll need to do better. This years has been a bad year for them.
Being in OSU is an amazing atmosphere is always awesome! This was one of Pages last games and it was worth it! They beat Texas Tech. I would recommend any OSU fan to take the time and money for the experience!
Had an amazing time. This was my first basketball game, at OSU and found it very fun. The atmosphere was wonderful, the seat was awesome. I will definitely make another game.
Venue is awesome. Crowd was pathetic. For the price of the ticket, it was a great value.
Had a great time at the game. Will be going again next season. Go POKES!!
This game was amazing. Just when you thought we were going to give it away, we came out with a 2 point victory. AWESOME!
Very nice, friendly audience, despite the fact that we were rooting for their opponent.
The game was good and the seat are all good at the arena.
I enjoyed the game, but was disappointed that I had asked for best seat available but was put in the corner top row seating, when the stadium was only half full. That was definitely not the best available.
The basketball players were great! The arena was too hot and felt stuffy. I got a headache half way though the game because of the lack of venelation and from the extremely loud music. When there are lots of empty seats - I don't believe the music is absorbed like it would if the arena was packed with spectators - therefore, the DJ needs to adjust his sound levels.
The Basketball players are exciting to watch because they can do 3 point baskets as well as dunking the ball! The cheerleaders do gymnastics and flips as well as cheers! The pom girls are energetic and fun to watch! Pistol Pete gets the crowd doing and helps the spectators to have more entertainment!
