Oklahoma State Cowboys Football History

Oklahoma State University played their first season of football in 1901, when they were still known as the Oklahoma A&M Aggies. The team was not christened as the Cowboys until Oklahoma A&M changed its name to Oklahoma State in 1957. The team was a member of the Big Eight from 1960 through 1995 and joined the Big 12 Conference in 1996.

Since the early 2000s, the Oklahoma State Cowboys have been one of the most competitive college football programs in the country. Head coach Mike Gundy joined the team in 2005 and steered the Cowboys to the 2011 national championship after an overtime win against Stanford in the Fiesta Bowl. Oklahoma State has won over 20 bowl games, including a 2018 Liberty Bowl victory over the Missouri Tigers, and 10 conference titles.

Oklahoma State's most famous player is Barry Sanders, an elusive running back who won the program’s sole Heisman Trophy in 1988 after what many consider the greatest individual season by a running back. He would go on to play 10 seasons for the Detroit Lions as one of the best of all time and has been inducted to both the Pro and College Football Hall of Fame. The squad was also coached by future NFL legend Jimmy Johnson between 1979 and 1983. The Cowboys’ most notable opponent is their fellow Big 12 Conference member, the Oklahoma Sooners. The two teams face off annually as part of the schools' Bedlam Series, which dates back to 1904.

    OSU/Nebraska Game

by HuskerFans on 10/25/10Boone Pickens Stadium - Stillwater

First college game I've attended since moving to Oklahoma 5 years ago. Being a Nebraska fan I wanted to see this one, because this may be the last time they come to Oklahoma. The Stillwater folks where very nice and welcomed us where ever we went. It was OSU homecoming and we even watched the parade. We had great seats, but there were three very large female OSU alumni diectly in front of us that never sat down for the whole game. I guess they were never taught by OSU how to behave at a football game. So we had to stand for most of the game to see.

    Homecoming

We had great seats! The event was very good! OSU needs to start playing ball. I was disappointed at the outcome of the football game.

Husker s to Stillwater for OSU game

by Cornboy on 10/25/10Boone Pickens Stadium - Stillwater

Bought the 4 seats here on Ticketmaster and printed the tickets out. Great seats 14 rows from the field. Boy do you sit close o the field.... nice and close. You are in the action. Used shuttle bus from downtown parking lot at 7th Street and Lewis street. Easy come , easy go. We were dressed in all red and the OSU fans were very respectful and fun to talk football with on bus and in stadium. Tailgated with some OSU fans - very nice and respectful. Recommend Stillwater for a game visit for sure.

Even though OSU lost, we throughly enjoyed going to the game. We went up Friday night for the OSU homecoming walk-around. Spectacular sight if you have never been!

OSU Cowboys are still No. 1

by Anonymous on 10/25/10Boone Pickens Stadium - Stillwater

OSU should have won that game... tackle tackle tackle... lets figure out how to tackle. Thats about all I have to say, well other than the fact everyone knew it was going to be about QB Martinez and the Cowboys just didn't seem prepared for him nor No. 10, the only guy that carried the ball if Taylor Martinez didn't.

Great game to the last play

by KRalphH on 10/6/10Boone Pickens Stadium - Stillwater

It was a great time to attend another OSU game. Bought an extra ticket and took an older widower from church that was an Oklahoma A& M graduate. Worth the extra ticket to hear his stories and see the gleem in his eyes to be there for a OSU Game. I was a little down that the Texas A&M band was not there to march at halftime. My tickets were not in as good of a location this week than a couple of weeks ago.It was fine until the monitor/screen on our end went out as most of the action during that time were on the other end of the field. Glad they got the screens up and going again. Would like to see the available tickets and make my choice instead of them being assigned to what computer thinks is best. Should of tried to get higher tickets to see better. I will shop more next time I buy tickets through this method. OSU Fans always have a lot of spirit and are great fans/supporter even if OSU is not ahead. They keep yelling and encouraging the team and each other. I wish I could afford to go to more OSU games. I had season tickets for 25 years but didn't renew in 2005 as I had lots of conflicts with that schedule because of my sons wedding and related events. I have never bought again because lage price increases.

    Great game...unbelievable atmosphere

by cowboyfannumber1 on 10/2/10Boone Pickens Stadium - Stillwater

Supposed to be a close game, line was set at OSU -3.5 and guess what, OSU needed a field goal with 2 seconds left to win by 3! Either team could have won the game with many swings in momentum, lots of turnovers and penalties. Very exciting game and I've never heard Boone Pickens Stadium louder! Hopefully it was a great show for the Thursday night ESPN audience.

by Inahurry on 9/20/10Boone Pickens Stadium - Stillwater

If there's a bad seat in the "house", I'll eat my (Cowboy) hat ! Great time. Loved being able to print the tickets at my house.

    OSU OVER PRICED

by bummedalum on 9/20/10Boone Pickens Stadium - Stillwater

went to the game only because we were able to get discounted alumni tickets. Regular tickets are so overpriced its ridiculous. They wouldn't even let us carry in an empty water bottle. had to buy their $3 water if you want a drink. The game was good but overall not worth the cost of the tickets.

Cowboys turn Hurricane into Tropical Depression

by Moosebuddy on 9/20/10Boone Pickens Stadium - Stillwater

Tulsa has no business playing a Big 12 team - they just don't have enough defense to compete on that level. Not a surprise to see OSU roll up 65 points, but very disappointed TU coudn't get the offense clicking often enough to only get one score against the Cowboy 1st stringers! Looking forward to Central Arkansas!!

    OSU vs. Tulsa Tickets

by OSUBixby on 9/20/10Boone Pickens Stadium - Stillwater

The game was awesome, since OSU won like they did. I still can't get the price of tickets out of my head. I don't think that the athletic director understands that raising prices isn't a way to get more people to come to a game. Even though it might lower season tickets, not everyone that wants to go can afford $800-$1000 or more for season tickets. We (OSU) is still not a big enough power house to justify these tickets prices.

Excellent experience buying and getting tickets.

by KRalphH on 9/20/10Boone Pickens Stadium - Stillwater

OSU did much better than anticipate. It was very fun to attend and enjoyed the company of my son and his father-in-law and those seated around us. Everyone always friendly at Oklahoma State games.

    Stadium seats

by goyou on 9/20/10Boone Pickens Stadium - Stillwater

Boone Pickens stadium seats are too small and too close together. We had to run down security staff because the people in front of us had the wife sitting in the lap of the husband due to no room on the bench, even though they both had tickets. I only saw the game during the second half, when half of the crowd had left. Can't believe this is a new stadium.

    OSU moves the ball!

by OrangePower on 9/20/10Boone Pickens Stadium - Stillwater

It was easy to get the seats, printed them off and it worked just fine. I would have liked to had a chance to view where all the available tickets were so we could have choosen our own seats. However it was fun and I will use this site again for futher purchases when neccesary. GO Pokes!
