Oklahoma City Thunder History
The Oklahoma City Thunder were originally founded as the Seattle SuperSonics in 1967. The SuperSonics relocated to Oklahoma City in 2008 after qualifying for the NBA playoffs 22 times, winning their division six times, advancing to three NBA Finals, and winning the NBA Championship in 1979.
The Thunder are now the only major professional sports team in Oklahoma. After relocating to Oklahoma City, the Thunder qualified for their first playoffs in the 2009–10 season. During the 2010–11 season, they won their first division title and the following season they won their first Western Conference championship.
The 2011–12 season marked the team’s first appearance in the NBA Finals since 1996, but they have not yet won a championship since moving to Oklahoma City. The Oklahoma City Thunder's name comes from a reference to Oklahoma's location in Tornado Alley, and Oklahoma City being the home of the U.S. Army's 45th Infantry Division, which were known as the Thunderbirds.
The Thunder began their rebuilding process in 2019 after acquiring All-Star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and drafting top prospects including Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren. The new era Thunder qualified for the 2023 play-in game and won their first matchup, but ultimately did not advance to the playoffs after falling to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Following the 2023–24 season, head coach Mark Daigneault won the league’s Coach of the Year Award.
The team won their first NBA Championship as the Thunder in 2025.

Oklahoma City Thunder at Paycom Center
The Thunder have played in the same arena since Oklahoma City acquired the franchise in 2008, but it underwent several name changes before settling on Chesapeake Energy Arena in 2011. In 2021, its name was changed to Paycom Center(Opens in new tab).
But the volume and rowdiness of that college atmosphere has carried over into Thunder games, giving the metro's arena and fanbase the nickname "Loud City.” OKC has also taken to color blocking its crowd, giving different sections different colored shirts, a practice that has spread and become common among all teams in the NBA.

The staff were really great at providing directions to seats. Great experience at the OKC Thunder vs LA Lakers.
Arena in a poor location. Paid good money for what is normally called floor seats right behind team. No perks with these seats. After paying that much my nephew was not even allowed to stand by the rail and get an autograph. Been to a lot of arenas, the one in Atlanta just a few days before the AT&T Center in fact and so far this is the worst. No incentive to pay for high priced seats and policies suck. Only reason for the five stars is because Thunder WON.
My daughter and son-in-law gave us the tickets as a gift. They transferred it to us and there was a little difficulty and we had to go to the resolution window but everyone was very nice and kind and we got it resolved pretty quickly.
Took son to first NBA game. Good seats, good game and great arena.
Great time great seats great atmosphere ready to go to another game it was awesome
While I was in town for the big Bedlam game I decided to go to a basketball. Glad I did the Thunders stadium was nice and there was not a bad seat. I love all of the fun stations they mafe available for the fans. Also the Thunder won but I am a Laker Fan for life.
This was a SUPER FUN night for our whole family! We had nosebleed seats and still had the best time! We could clearly see everything happening on the court - didn’t feel far away at all - and the Thunder does a great job of keeping the excitement going the entire time. There was a ton of entertainment - dancers, skits, contests, highlighting crowd members on the big screen, the round blimp thing that flies around, etc. We’ll definitely return as often as we can!
Everything was good and we have fun.....Are family enjoy on this game
Loved the entire experience. The arena is so open, a good view wherever you ait.
Had a fantastic time. Hoping to go again! So hoping they will play in Tulsa again.
My family and I always have a great time at the Thunder games whether they are at the BOK or Cheasapeake Arena. We relocated a couple years ago from Oklahoma and still make the 3 plus hr drive to attend games. Thanks eveeyone that helps put the games together and makes it fun for everyone of all ages. A big thanks to the players for always going out there and playing their hardest!
It was a bit low key compared to games in the past in OKC, but overall it was fun! We had super seats down by the goal. Will definitely be going again!
Amazing event!! I Love the Thunders!! I really loved how I can see the 360 view from my seat before I bought the tickets
Best arena and best fans in the NBA. Their is only one way to experience an NBA game and that is going to Chesapeake Energy Arena.
We love going to games and cheering on our team. Win or lose, we are Thunder strong.
We got autographs from some of the players. I wish the arena will open the gates at least 1 & 1/2 hrs before the start of the game to give us enough time to go to the shops , to buy food and to watch the players for their pre-game warm up up close.
The game was great, just too bad the Thunder lost. The soda was good as usual.
The Thunder was awesome as always ... We crushed the Atlanta Hawks!
The Thunder is always incredible and the BOK Center is the best venue!
Great game the BOK and the NBA always do a good job for this pre season game
