Oklahoma City Thunder History
The Oklahoma City Thunder were originally founded as the Seattle SuperSonics in 1967. The SuperSonics relocated to Oklahoma City in 2008 after qualifying for the NBA playoffs 22 times, winning their division six times, advancing to three NBA Finals, and winning the NBA Championship in 1979.
The Thunder are now the only major professional sports team in Oklahoma. After relocating to Oklahoma City, the Thunder qualified for their first playoffs in the 2009–10 season. During the 2010–11 season, they won their first division title and the following season they won their first Western Conference championship.
The 2011–12 season marked the team’s first appearance in the NBA Finals since 1996, but they have not yet won a championship since moving to Oklahoma City. The Oklahoma City Thunder's name comes from a reference to Oklahoma's location in Tornado Alley, and Oklahoma City being the home of the U.S. Army's 45th Infantry Division, which were known as the Thunderbirds.
The Thunder began their rebuilding process in 2019 after acquiring All-Star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and drafting top prospects including Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren. The new era Thunder qualified for the 2023 play-in game and won their first matchup, but ultimately did not advance to the playoffs after falling to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Following the 2023–24 season, head coach Mark Daigneault won the league’s Coach of the Year Award.
The team won their first NBA Championship as the Thunder in 2025.

Oklahoma City Thunder at Paycom Center
The Thunder have played in the same arena since Oklahoma City acquired the franchise in 2008, but it underwent several name changes before settling on Chesapeake Energy Arena in 2011. In 2021, its name was changed to Paycom Center(Opens in new tab).
But the volume and rowdiness of that college atmosphere has carried over into Thunder games, giving the metro's arena and fanbase the nickname "Loud City.” OKC has also taken to color blocking its crowd, giving different sections different colored shirts, a practice that has spread and become common among all teams in the NBA.

Great seat for a great price. We had a great time. Our Spring Break started off right.
Seats were great. Lady who stands at the top of stairs was beyond helpful and polite. Lady at the bottom also helpful. Great time and priceless memories made
Lines for concessions were way too long. Religious music for halftime show totally inappropriate at an NBA game.
I was given a head/face poster of a player by the Thunder cheerleaders before a Thunder game; for some reason they would not let me bring it into this game. I argued that your team cheerleaders are the ones that gave it to me & I brought it to multiple games! I drove an hour to & from the game, had I known I could not bring my poster in the game I would not have gone!
to enter was fast, comfortable chairs, easy to but ext.
Good food, great time, Thunder played their hearts out. Good investment
The personnel at Paycom go out of their way to make it an enjoyable time. I am handicapped and on crutches. They helped me in so many ways and were extremely friendly!!!!
OMYGOSH!! WE HAD A GREAT TIME!! IT WAS ALL OF OUR(5 OF US) 1ST TIME TO GO THERE! THE ONLY THING I WOULD CHANGE IS I NEED TO SAVE MORE MONEY FOR A DIFFERENT SEAT. BUT OVERALL WE HAD AN AWESOME TIME!! GO THUNDER🟠🔵
New Years Eve Thunder game was great. Clean venue with clean bathrooms and good food options. Half time performance was fun. Great way to spend New Years Eve. No political stunts. Just Thunder vs. Knicks.
Was a good game and the seats were really nice and cheaper then any other site
Oldsters are not tech savvy. Yu should have sent physical tix. Vaccinated can get Covid. Yu should not have required proof.
Seats were great. I was thoroughly entertained. I enjoyed the halftime show as well
This was a great game and OKC fought back to tie and then they were ahead a short time but ended up getting beat in overtime. I really enjoyed the fact that the game was at the BOK here in Tulsa. I've seen a game at the Chesapeake in OKC a few years back but hesitate going to OKC for home games. I see how the hometown fans could get hooked on watching the only Pro-team in Oklahoma play. All we had for so long is the Oklahoma Sooners and the OSU Cowboys. Half the state being fans of one or the other. Stephen Sumter
From the moment that we entered the BOK, To the service at the concession stand to the cleanliness and organization, staffing at the game, the VIP lounge and exiting everything was meticulous we always enjoy attending functions at BOK
Awesome vibe. My kids and I had a great time and our first time there was amazing. We are originally from Colorado and watch the nuggets, but the whole time we were shouting OKC! OKC! OKC! OKC!!! Great set up on how you pump up the fans and team. We’ll definitely go again for sure! Thank you for the hospitality... Thumbs Up!!
Great experience!! This is my 7th game in last 2 seasons all of them are wins! Makes it even better🙂🏀🙂
It was a great game, great seats, & the best 2 1/2 hours of entertainment a person can have!!
From the time we entered, the excitement was truly overwhelming. I sat with strangers and everyone around me was pouring our love out to Russell, to the new Thunder guys, to a wonderful win beating the Rockets.
It was pretty awesome! LeBron was on the bench that night so we didn’t get to see him play, but the overall experience was awesome.
Honestly I would have been happy anywhere in the building. Loud City was perfect - just that - LOUD! I appreciate Russ and all he did for OKC - the team and the city. Will always be a fan! Perfect night - OKC won and Russ had a great night. Couldn’t have been better. 💙🧡💙🧡💙🧡💙🧡💙🧡💙🧡💙🧡💙
