Oklahoma City Thunder History
The Oklahoma City Thunder were originally founded as the Seattle SuperSonics in 1967. The SuperSonics relocated to Oklahoma City in 2008 after qualifying for the NBA playoffs 22 times, winning their division six times, advancing to three NBA Finals, and winning the NBA Championship in 1979.
The Thunder are now the only major professional sports team in Oklahoma. After relocating to Oklahoma City, the Thunder qualified for their first playoffs in the 2009–10 season. During the 2010–11 season, they won their first division title and the following season they won their first Western Conference championship.
The 2011–12 season marked the team’s first appearance in the NBA Finals since 1996, but they have not yet won a championship since moving to Oklahoma City. The Oklahoma City Thunder's name comes from a reference to Oklahoma's location in Tornado Alley, and Oklahoma City being the home of the U.S. Army's 45th Infantry Division, which were known as the Thunderbirds.
The Thunder began their rebuilding process in 2019 after acquiring All-Star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and drafting top prospects including Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren. The new era Thunder qualified for the 2023 play-in game and won their first matchup, but ultimately did not advance to the playoffs after falling to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Following the 2023–24 season, head coach Mark Daigneault won the league’s Coach of the Year Award.
The team won their first NBA Championship as the Thunder in 2025.

Oklahoma City Thunder at Paycom Center
The Thunder have played in the same arena since Oklahoma City acquired the franchise in 2008, but it underwent several name changes before settling on Chesapeake Energy Arena in 2011. In 2021, its name was changed to Paycom Center(Opens in new tab).
But the volume and rowdiness of that college atmosphere has carried over into Thunder games, giving the metro's arena and fanbase the nickname "Loud City.” OKC has also taken to color blocking its crowd, giving different sections different colored shirts, a practice that has spread and become common among all teams in the NBA.

Ticket prices for Oklahoma City Thunder games depend on a variety of factors, including date and time, city, matchup, seat location, and when the tickets are purchased. The average ticket for an Oklahoma City Thunder game can cost anywhere between $50-$150.
The Oklahoma City Thunder have appeared in the NBA Finals five times: in 2012 and 2025 as the Thunder and in 1978, 1979 and 1996 as the Seattle SuperSonics. They won their first NBA Championship as the Thunder in 2025.

Great Experience Overall. Entertainment is mediocre.
The seat was good value, especially for a playoff game. I was expecting the view to be sketchy seeing as I was in the back row of the top section, but the steep bowl actually means you don’t feel too far from the action and the sight lines were good. Getting in and out of the arena was fairly easy, given the scale of the event. My only criticism was the speed of the lines at the food kiosks.
If you love basketball, treat yourself to a playoff game in Oklahoma City. What an experience. It was so freakin’ loud. Half price concessions 2 hours before the game. Everyone in their seats all decked out in white t-shirts.
We had the best time watching OKC close out the season! Facilities was nice in/out access was easy. All around great experience.
It was definitely an experience!! so much fun! I plan on hopefully getting some season tickets :)
It was such a fun experience to go to the Thunder game. All of the ushers and workers were friendly. The atmosphere of the game was exciting.
Had a great time at the Thunder/Suns game. Took two of the grandkids, and they had a blast. Hope to do it again!
The event was awesome! Bought tickets with + $30 concession credit built in. Great deal! But, only less than half of the time it worked. I repeatedly had to wait until the one register/worker that it worked with was free. Missed a lot of the game as a result (my kids wanted random concessions, multiple times). Then, didn't get to use all of my credit since they were closing at the start of the 4th quarter. Oof.
Seat was 60% obstructed by a camera man who said he’s there every game in the same spot. Ticket was not noted accordingly and could only see one basket while missing everything on the other end of the court and half court.
The children’s activities (posters, face painting) made this a valued experience! We can’t wait to come again!! Go Thunder!!!!
I love the Oklahoma City Thunder and I love Oklahoma City. This is my second time attending a Thunder game; I was there 3/2023 as well. Both times I had great experiences and I plan on making this an annual trip. My hotel is right next door and that makes it even better.
Great game, wonderful venue with great hotels to walk within minutes. Had an awesome time !!! Food close early at the 3rd quarter
Great time. Accurate viewing picture when buying tickets - good view. Awesome atmosphere
My son and I drove up from Tyler, Texas to watch the Thunder host the Pacers. This was our second game this season and third overall on OKC. My son has remained a devoted fan since he first started following basketball around 2013. Every facet of our game was top notch! From the way all of the event staff greats and helps you, to the fan experience during the game, during timeouts and halftime. We have watched NBA games here, in Dallas and Houston but OKC definitely is hands down the most enjoyable and fan friendly environment!
Everything was great except parking. The access to the handicap seating was great and the concessions and bathrooms were easy to access.
I only go to 5-6 Thunder games a year. Would go to more but I am handicapped (on crutches), so have to find seat in Section 103 or similar. I was there March 10. The help provided to me as a handicapped person is remarkable and I am so thankful!! Keep up the great service and THUNDER UP!!!!!
It was our first time going to the Paycom center and also our very first Thunder game. Our experience was absolutely incredible. The staff were so friendly, helpful, and polite they all assisted us on places to take our children for it being their 1st experience. We will definitely be going to more games!
Great game, the first since the start of the pandemic
It was a really good game but I kept missing the good parts. WHY??!!! This is because of my seat. I was seated at Section 102 Row SS seat 11. This seat would have been great but the PAYCOM arena decided to put the camera man right there. In order for me to see the whole court I would have had to stand the entire game which in turn would have blocked the people in the rows behind of me from seeing. I kept having to move to see around the camera man or I had to look at the jumbo screen to see the game. If I wanted to see the game on TV I would have stayed at home. If PAYCOM is going to have the camera man positioned there for sporting events then they should not sell those seats because the patrons can only see the game clearly when the players are under the basket on that side or on the jumbo screen. If PAYCOM can try to position the camera person somewhere else that would be a great option as well. Also the little boy in front of me and the young lady behind me also had issues seeing the game because of the camera man as well.
Atmosphere was amazing, the staff at the kids spirit booths were seriously so great, the fact that my average size clear bag that I have used to attend several college sport events was “too big” and I had to lose my spot in line to walk 3 blocks back to my car to take it back and purchase a new ‘not clear’ bag inside to hold my wallet and other necessities was ABSOLUTELY insane.
