Oklahoma City Thunder History
The Oklahoma City Thunder were originally founded as the Seattle SuperSonics in 1967. The SuperSonics relocated to Oklahoma City in 2008 after qualifying for the NBA playoffs 22 times, winning their division six times, advancing to three NBA Finals, and winning the NBA Championship in 1979.
The Thunder are now the only major professional sports team in Oklahoma. After relocating to Oklahoma City, the Thunder qualified for their first playoffs in the 2009–10 season. During the 2010–11 season, they won their first division title and the following season they won their first Western Conference championship.
The 2011–12 season marked the team’s first appearance in the NBA Finals since 1996, but they have not yet won a championship since moving to Oklahoma City. The Oklahoma City Thunder's name comes from a reference to Oklahoma's location in Tornado Alley, and Oklahoma City being the home of the U.S. Army's 45th Infantry Division, which were known as the Thunderbirds.
The Thunder began their rebuilding process in 2019 after acquiring All-Star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and drafting top prospects including Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren. The new era Thunder qualified for the 2023 play-in game and won their first matchup, but ultimately did not advance to the playoffs after falling to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Following the 2023–24 season, head coach Mark Daigneault won the league’s Coach of the Year Award.
The team won their first NBA Championship as the Thunder in 2025.

Oklahoma City Thunder at Paycom Center
The Thunder have played in the same arena since Oklahoma City acquired the franchise in 2008, but it underwent several name changes before settling on Chesapeake Energy Arena in 2011. In 2021, its name was changed to Paycom Center(Opens in new tab).
But the volume and rowdiness of that college atmosphere has carried over into Thunder games, giving the metro's arena and fanbase the nickname "Loud City.” OKC has also taken to color blocking its crowd, giving different sections different colored shirts, a practice that has spread and become common among all teams in the NBA.

My father and I really enjoyed it. We'll be getting tickets more often!
The game was great as usual even though they lost. Half time was not interesting. It usually is something interesting to watch
Loved the basketball game, was so easy to print the tickets and everyone at OKC Thunder was great. First basketball game for me, and it will be hard to get any better.
Great seats in a great venue! Thunder won, so it was an exciting game!
Even though the Thunder is missing several of their team mates, I have to commend the players on their energy and willingness to fight. They were amazing. It was a wonderful and exciting game. Great job!!!
Great game! Love the team work and the entertainment between time outs!!
The game was good however most of the stars didn't play (Collins, Reggie Jackson, Ibbaca) Westbrook played a little and of course Durant was out. The tickets cost about the same as regular season which is a lot there were so many empty seats they should let people use those seats if know one is going too make it more affordable for everyone.
The tickets made the difference. I took my grandmother for an early 82nd birthday gift. With ticketmaster I was able to purchase the right tickets, it was important for her to not have to climb many stairs and see a clear view of game. She only had to do about 6 stairs and we had a great view of the game!!
Could not believe it. First they magically heal Ibaka's leg. Next they actually start him in the game. He scored a lot of points. The crowd went bonkers. It's a must see game if you're a fan of OKC Thunder or basketball in general. My gut feeling says that you can't go to Round 3 Home Game 2 and expect a Round 3 Home Game 1 experience. It just won't be the same. Do not disappoint yourself by choosing a game other than this one.
Thunder Up! OKC proved that they weren't going to roll over for San Antonio. Serge is Back!
Great game loved the energy in the arena. Hopefully will be able to attend a game or two in the western conference finals.
The game was great and the atmosphere was very fun.
The game was spectacular and the atmosphere was better.
This was a great game! I enjoyed listening to Durant share a few words after his MVP win!
Great view with no obstructions or people in your way for a great price.
Best game yet. Lots of fun. Loud city was awesome. And the MVP posters at the end of the game was a nice touch.
Good seats for a great game! Can't beat the playoffs in OKC!
the fans at the peak was fired up.they started chanting before the game started. You could feel the pressure in the air.
We went to the first game of round 2. The Thunder lost the game so I was truly disappointed. However, it was still so fun just to be there for a playoff game. I love receiving the shirt for the playoffs! It is such a neat memento of the experience! We did leave after about 2 minutes of the 4th quarter. The crowd seemed to be getting a bit crazy over the loss and I didn't want to walk to my car after the game in the bulk of the crowd.
