Ohio State Buckeyes Women’s Basketball History

The Ohio State Buckeyes women’s basketball team played their first season in 1965–66, finding independent success before joining the Big Ten in 1981. The team holds a conference-best 14 regular season Big Ten titles, as well as four conference tournament wins. Under coach Nancy Darsch, the Buckeyes reached the NCAA National Championship game in 1993, falling to Texas Tech, 84–82. Ohio State has notched 23 total March Madness appearances, and in 2023, the Buckeyes advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time in 30 years. Kevin McGuff has served as head coach since 2013.

Ohio State Buckeyes at the Schottenstein Center

The Buckeyes play in the Value City Arena at the Jerome Schottenstein Center (often shortened to the Schottenstein Center), which opened in 1998 and is the largest arena in the Big Ten, seating 19,500 for basketball. Appropriately, the school boasts a vocal, robust student fan base that cheers on the team in a section known as the Buckeye NutHouse.

    OSU Vs Purdue Womens BBall

by Lauren on 2/2/23Schottenstein Center - Columbus

Really disappointed by the environment the OSU players created for the fans. Sad about the body language from the bench and girls not invested in the game. I think some of us fans were more engaged and excited than some of the bench. From not supporting the flag for the National Anthem (only four girls were present for the anthem) to lack of excitement during a close game. Really missing a team driven atmosphere. The aisle attendants at the game had more energy and pride for OSU than some of the players. Disappointed. Creates a mixed atmosphere that is hard to invest in and spend money to experience.

If only it was a win

by Buckeye J on 1/26/23Schottenstein Center - Columbus

The Ohio State Iowa Women’s Basketball game was excited until the end. Great crowd, pricey concessions, and a great opponent. Iowa out played us all night but there was still a chance until late 4th quarter. It is a great ticket for fun! If only it was a win!

    Great Experience

by IzzyBatio on 1/11/23Schottenstein Center - Columbus

Parking was very good. Food and Drinks reasonably priced. Comfortable seats. Must say the Women's games are more excitable than the Men's. Staff are very friendly as well. Making for a great experience.

    Epic!

by Baker on 1/11/23Schottenstein Center - Columbus

Excellent seats for a first time game. We watched the women come back from the largest second half deficit in program history to beat the Illini. Hit up Cap City Diner for an early lunch/brunch beforehand. Highly recommended! Avoid seats 12 and 13 in these sections because the backboard and post will impede your view.

Covelli Center -- the GOOD and the AWFUL

by Richard Needles on 1/3/23Covelli Center Columbus - Columbus

My wife and I attended our first event at the Covelli Center on the Ohio State University campus this past weekend. We LOVED watching the OSU Women's basketball team beat Michigan in an exciting game. Usually, we attend games at the Schott. Covelli Center is intimate and creates an exciting environment. The AWFUL -- When I ordered our seats on Ticketmaster, there was NO indication that they were bleacher seats. So, 2 and 1/2 hours of no back support, VERY narrow seat space. I would have ordered seats in a different section if I knew they were bleachers. 2nd AWFUL: scoreboards are so low in the arena, it was difficult to see them; the ONE big screen for replays was about the size of my living room TV -- impossible to see from a distance. 3rd AWFUL: it took us 30 minutes to get out of the parking lot at a game with only 3,000 people in attendance. The parking lot staff NEVER managed the exit flow; stood in one place and acted like they did not care. I am UNLIKELY to attend a Covelli Center event again. VERY Poor design and management.

    Fun Outting

    by Mark P 55 on 12/20/22Schottenstein Center - Columbus

My bride and I attended the Ohio State v Albany women's basketball game. It was a very enjoyable outting, not a close game but fun none the less. Great seats at a good price, $10 each (for seniors 62+) in the lower bowl near mid court (section 122). Combine that with free parking and you can support Buckeye Athletics at a reasonable cost.

    Difficulties

by Lazlo on 12/15/21Schottenstein Center - Columbus

Actually had three events Dec 10, 11, 12. No problems with pulling tickets up on Ticketmaster on the 10th. But, on the 11th and 12th the Ticketmaster app wanted me to log in for ticket access and when I when I tried to log in the screen went black and never recovered. I eventually accessed the tickets through an email Ticketmaster had sent but it took time and many key strokes to find my tickets. I did get into the events but not a pleasant experience. Back home I uninstalled the Ticketmaster phone app and then reinstalled the app. App seems to be working now. But, I'd sure like to know what caused the app to stop functioning when I really needed it be perfect.

    Why Are The Buckeyes Hiding?

by Buckeye Mike on 11/30/21Covelli Center Columbus - Columbus

Excellent venue. Women Buckeyes had an advantage over the Cincinnati Bearcats. The Buckeyes stayed in the locker room during the national anthem. Not being very friendly to their fans by avoiding overall game experience. Poor sportsmen.
