About

Icelandic six-piece Of Monsters and Men have delighted audiences around the world with their uplifting English folk-pop sound, full of soaring harmonies and captivating melodies. The monster hit “Little Talks” was many fans’ introduction to the band – it was certified Platinum in the US, reaching No. 1 on the US Alternative chart. 2013 saw the band wowing ticket buyers at live concerts and festivals, showing they’re just as talented on stage as in the recording studio. Formed in 2010, the band met with success quickly, winning Iceland’s annual band competition Músíktilraunir later that year. In 2011, Of Monsters and Men signed to Record Records and released the Into the Woods EP. Their debut album My Head is an Animal was released in Iceland in September 2011 and in the US in April 2012 by the Universal Music Group. The album – full of  acoustically driven, infectiously energetic folk-rock – peaked at No. 6 on the US Billboard 200 album chart and reached the top 5 in Australia, Canada, Germany, and the UK.

    Absolutely amazing.

    by apart170 on 11/21/12Orpheum Theatre - Boston

Of Monsters and Men is the only band I have seen that is EVEN BETTER live. Their voices are absolutely amazing and the instrumentalists are fantastic (and versatile!) It sounded just like I was listening to the album, but of course better quality because it was live. They are also adorable and have great energy. They played all of the songs from their album except for Your Bones, plus one new song and a cover. Definitely recommended.

Of Monsters and Men is a must have, must see.

by Enabler on 11/21/12Orpheum Theatre - Boston

It is always amazing to me when artists can reproduce their studio sound when playing live, yet still put a different spin on it in order to make it a real show, and not just the album being played. Well done all around.

Could have been better. Same as the album, no changes to the music, no solo... I left a bit disappointed and wanting to have more. Hopefully they will grow with more assurance and take more risks for upcoming shows

Of Monsters and Men = Icelandic Awesomeness

    by Tyler45 on 8/6/12State Theatre - Portland

This show was fantastic. They played their entire set list, their stage presence and inclusion of the audience was incredible. They are one of the most together and tuned in bands I have ever seen and many of the songs they played such as Little Talks and Six Weeks, sounded just like their album versions. It was by far the best concert I have ever been to, and I can't wait to go to another of their shows. The State Theatre is a great venue with obvious good taste in bands.

excellent show; horrible set up by State Theater

by ofmonstersandmenfan on 8/3/12State Theatre - Portland

Of Monsters and Men blew me away. They have great showmanship & put on an excellent show. Their two opening acts were wonderful as well. However, the set up time between all three acts was 30 minutes + Going to a show there should be a maximum of 15 minutes between the acts. The state did a horrible job at keeping the flow moving and it was annoying having to wait around between the acts. It didn't feel like a professional show. Try harder next time, State Theater.

    An okay performance

by Fonchezzz on 8/3/12State Theatre - Portland

You know how some people say that "You should SO see this band live! It's amazing!" I wouldn't say that about Of Monsters and Men. I enjoyed the show and got my moneys worth, but the show seemed lacking something. Perhaps it was the fact that there was a drunken group of girls next to me that wouldnt stop screaming. I could hardly hear the band, just these off pitch loud obnoxious voices in my ear. The opening acts were pretty good. Though I was confused when one of them started singing about fellatio. That was off setting to say the least. On top of all that, Of Monsters and Men are a very redundant band. Perhaps it is because they have one album out, but all of their songs sound the same. Half way through, I couldn't put my finger on which songs they hadnt played. There are two style of songs. The upbeat and the slow. Of monsters and men might as well have two songs they play over and over again. nonetheless. Glad I went.

    Waiting for Monsters

by CosmicBertha on 8/2/12State Theatre - Portland

Lots and lots of waiting and then the show was one hour, including encore! Cute band, Cute sound. All songs sound very similar to each other. Maybe it was just as well it was so short!

    Impressive show

    by Crazyirishman89 on 8/2/12State Theatre - Portland

The opening acts we're a little quirky, but the Main act was all that I anticipated and more. It's nice to see the artists in Of Monsters and Men incorporating a Call-and-Response Style into many of their songs which in turn makes the concert more enjoyable and interactive for the audience. I am glad I got to see them while the tickets are still relatively cheap. Also the Icelandic accents are great to listen to.

    Great Show!

by sswid on 8/2/12State Theatre - Portland

Of Monsters and Men was fantastic! Played for about an hour, and then had a 3 song encore. The opening acts however, were not so great. We thought the first one was bad, and then the second one came out. Not only was the sound really loud, but the second opener was literally screaming at times...not enjoyable. Another frustration was that there was at least 30-40 minutes in between each act. The show was scheduled to start at 7:30pm, which it did with the first opener, but each opener played for 20-30 minutes and Of Monsters and Men didn't come on until after 9:30pm. The time between acts seemed a bit ridiculous seeing as it wasn't used for set up, or time for the sound and stage crew or anything...

    Loved it!!!!

by LILPaula on 8/2/12State Theatre - Portland

I went with my best friend and we had a blast. It was awesome! She has always loved Of Monsters and Men. I had only heard like two songs. I fell in love lol. I also really loved Elle King's opening act. :-)

    GREAT SHOW!!!

by jandmgas on 8/1/12State Theatre - Portland

This band is even better in person than the album suggests! When the whole band kicks in things really get going. You will not be disappointed at this show!!

They had an absolutely amazing energy to them and I didn't get bored once during the performance! My only complaint is there was a long wait between sets which got annoying but other than that they were amazing!

Of Monsters and Men, great night

    by MzMoney2 on 8/1/12State Theatre - Portland

Great night overall. Only downside was I felt they let us wait too long to start the concert.

Of Monsters and Men is an amazing group and their sound, energy and enthusiasm were phenomenal. This was one of the best shows I've seen in years. The tickets were embarrassingly cheap, and would still have been a bargain at twice the price. I look forward to hearing what these talented musicians come up with next. Elle King's music was a fun and lively, but Doe Paoro's music wasn't really a good fit with the rest of the event.

Better live than in studio - AMAZING!

by Anonymous on 8/1/12State Theatre - Portland

The concert was fantastic. Of Monsters and Men really did their part to make the audience feel included and did a lot to engage with us. The theater went insane as soon as they played Little Talks and my personal favorite, Mountain Sound. Elle King, one of the openers, was adorable, funny, and a great singer.

Of Monsters and Men was a great show, in fact, I'd rate it about 4.5 stars but that wasn't an option. The first opening band was really entertaining but my attention dropped off after the long wait and second act which, in my opinion was terrible. I would definitely see Of Monsters and Men again. The music was very upbeat and would be awesome at an outdoor venue!

    What a great show

by plander on 8/1/12State Theatre - Portland

The warm up acts didn't match the groups genre but other than that and it being on a Monday, it was a great show. I would go again to see them next week.
