NOEL GALLAGHER'S HIGH FLYING BIRDS IN CONCERT:
Following the 2009 dissolution of pioneering Britpop band Oasis, primary songwriter and lead guitarist Noel Gallagher didn't give fans any time to lament his split from brother and longtime collaborator Liam. Instead he hit the ground running with his solo project Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, a harder-edged continuation of his work with the late great band. Since then Noel has proven himself quite the frontman, impressing audiences around the globe with rollicking performances of tunes like "Dream On" and "Do the Damage". He throws in a few classic Oasis numbers like "Don't Look Back in Anger" and "Supersonic" for good measure, ensuring fans both old and new get to rock out to their favorite jams.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Noel Gallagher was born and raised in Manchester, England, where he had a fairly turbulent childhood. He picked up the guitar in his teens as a way to pass time while on probation for robbing a corner shop, imitating the songs he heard on the radio before moving on to songs of his own. He was expelled from high school at 15 and worked various construction jobs before striking up a friendship with Manchester band Inspiral Carpets and joining them as a roadie. Upon returning from the group's US tour he joined his brother Liam's band The Rain, a psych-tinged rock outfit that would eventually become Oasis. Noel and Liam made their debut as Oasis in 1994 with the album Definitely Maybe, a critical and commercial success that topped the UK Albums charts and spawned four popular singles. Their sophomore album (What's the Story) Morning Glory? was an even bigger smash, topping charts around the world thanks to instant classics like "Wonderwall" and "Champagne Supernova". All told, the band reached No. 1 in the UK with all seven of their albums before long-simmering fraternal tensions drove the brothers apart in 2009. Noel lost little time continuing his rock reign -- in 2010 he formed Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, releasing a self-titled debut album to the top of the British charts the following year. With their sophomore album Chasing Yesterday generating buzz in 2015, the band has fans eagerly awaiting their next round on the road.

Been waiting to see N.G for such a long time! Hopefully the brothers can squash the beef and get Oasis back together! Garbage was also incredible! Great show!
The show was a nice mixture of tunes from the new album and some classic Oasis tracks. While I am aware there were 2 opening bands, including a rockin set by Courtney Love's band Garbage AND that Summerstage has a strict 10 pm finish time, a 1 hr. set by N.G was just too short. He should have come out a half hour before he did and played an hour and a half. No excuses.
Very good show from all the performers. Just seemed short but still amazing!
Summerstage is a great venue for any show, you can stand all the way in the back (or purchase VIP bleacher seats behind GA) and it's still close enough to see the expressions on the musicians' faces. Metric had an outstanding set list, Shirley Manson always gives it her all, and Noel and the Birds have been around long enough now that the show almost felt like a greatest hits (plus the requisite Oasis sing-along finale of "Don't Look Back In Anger"). The only downside was that Metric started earlier than the listed time, so by the time we got there they were halfway through their set. Also think about having a snack before you go to avoid the pricy burgers and pizza, and the only bottled (canned) water were $4.50 cans of Liquid Death (although there were multiple filling stations around the venue so next time we'll remember to bring our own bottles). All in all a great show, and reminded me what a great venue Summerstage is, to the point where I'd go to a show even for bands I'm not a massive fan of.
Long time Oasis fan and now a fan of High Flying Birds as well. Noel has always been an excellent songwriter and his HFL hits of the last few years have shown the maturity Noel has gained over the years. Concert itself was ace. Took my 10 year old son as his first ever live gig and we both were blown away by how many oasis songs he performed, which I wasn't expecting. Noel played AKA What a Life, Pretty Boy and Council Skies among others, then a Bob Dylan cover before launching into a second half of oasis songs: Masterplan, Live Forever, Half a World Away (highlight of the concert for me) and Don't Look Back in Anger. There was no encore. Gave four stars instead of 5 because the performance was a bit short, about 1 hour or thereabouts and would have liked to have heard more of his High Flying Birds songs but give the people what they want I suppose, most people just want to hear oasis songs. Also thumbs down for the Pep Guardiola shrine on stage - since I'm an Arsenal fan, can't get with that lol. Honestly, this was a really special show because Noel still has it and one for the core memory for my son, for his first live concert, might as well see a Legend!
Came all the way from London to play only 7 songs! Disappointing
The evening started off fine and we were enjoying the first two acts. Then there was a long wait before we were told the main act was cancelled. I watched three buses load up and drive away before we were told to evacuate. The bands were gone for about 5 minutes before any announcement was made. No explanation was given and we were all told to leave. I want my money back! Paid over $400 for a hotel not to mention the gas to drive to the venue. Dissatisfied and greatly disappointed…
Metric and Garbage put on absolutely amazing performances. The sound seemed a bit difficult to hear at times. The venue was evacuated before Noel Gallagher’s group went on. There was a limited sense of urgency in the announcement and message from staff. I understand not creating panic, but the sense of urgency that comes from an evacuation due to a bomb threat was not evident whatsoever. If there was a true threat, I have huge concerns with how the venue addressed it. Also, it was clear that the threat was known to the performers and SPAC well before it was announced to concert goers. The performer’s tour busses pulled out prior to any announcements being made. No indications of any partial refunds or credits for future shows tops it all off… Disappointing all around.
It was cancelled right as Noal was about to perform
Bought tickets to see Noel and didn't get to see Noel. Haven't gotten a response from Live Nation from an email either
Not a big fan of the headliner but was excited to see Metric and Garbage and was not disappointed! Both Emily Haines and Shirley Manson were in good voice and dynamic, and Siouxsie’s “Cities In Dust” suited Manson perfectly!👍👍👍😎
I thought $25 for a barely there alcoholic drink and $13 for a burned hot dog and soggy (but also somehow burnt?) fries were bad til the bomb threat evacuation without even a partial refund. Garbage was the saving grace tho.
The concert was cancelled and we couldn’t even stay to watch the headliner. I know it’s not the artists fault but due to the circumstances I think refunds should be given to everyone that attended.
Noel's voice was unbelievable, I've seen Oasis 3 times prior and him singing his older songs was breathtaking! The Masterplan and Half a World Away was nothing short of a stunning performance!
Excellent show at Pine Knob on July 6! Noel is the greatest songwriter of my lifetime! Can’t wait to see him again!
Well, far too loud. Made the whole experience less great.
Would really like to have NGHFB do a non “co headliner “ tour again in states. I really enjoyed Metric and Garbage (first time seeing both artist) but want more of Noel’s catalog. Please Noel do a true headliner tour so we can enjoy 25-30 of your great songwriting gems. Want more!! Cheers 😎
Garbage really open the show and leave the crowd hanging on for Noel whom replay nailed it starting with a few songs from his new album one of the best of his solo career and ending the show with a great performance of don’t look back in anger
Wish they played longer! Seemed to be just over an hour? And although Gallagher’s sound was fine, opening act was too loud - sound was distorted, and vocals were overpowered by instruments . They could have played less…. Time on ticket should reflect starting time….. as well as when doors open.
The main act was very short. I feel like that should have been advertised better. I was disappointed because it was over very quickly.
