About

Nils Frahm On Tour

German pianist and composer Nils Frahm combines styles of classical pianists and contemporary composers to create gorgeous and soothing piano and ambient music with an unconventional approach. The prolific composer focuses as much on silence and superfluous sounds in his music such as a piano pedal creaking or recording static as he does notes and melodies, which gives a unique flare and an immediacy to everything he does.

In addition to his solo work, Frahm has released collaborations with renowned performers including Ólafur Arnalds, F. S. Blumm, Anne Müller, and Woodkid. In 2021, Frahm released a full-length album, Old Friends New Friends, featuring 80 minutes of archival solo piano works that didn't make it onto the composer's previous albums. Broad and ambitious in scope, he explores ambient minimalism and borrows classical tenets to create unique and beautiful compositions.

Known for sweeping audiences away no matter what mood they're in, Frahm's live performances are not to be missed.

Nils Frahm Live in Concert

Nils Frahm began learning piano at an early age, mastering the instrument and taking music lessons throughout his childhood. The son of renowned art and nature photographer Klaus Frahm, Nils Frahm grew up near Hamburg, Germany, learning the styles of both classical and contemporary composers. He was also fascinated by mixing boards and examining the quality of recorded sound.

Now he works as an accomplished performer, composer and producer based out of the studio he built at Funkhaus, the renowned concert and events venue in Berlin.

His first physical album release, Streichelfisch, came out in 2005 and he has been incredibly prolific ever since. Interestingly, his 2022 album, Music for Animals, is three hours long and is notable because of the absence of piano in favor of ambient soundscapes. The striking album cover features one of his father's famous black-and-white photographs of a hand holding a goldfish in a bag.

Recorded during the height of the pandemic, Frahm said that his inspiration for Music for Animals was "something as mesmerizing as watching a great waterfall or the leaves on a tree in a storm...some people like watching the leaves rustle and the branches move. This record is for them."

Don't miss your chance to get swept away by the understated beauty and emotion of Frahm's compositions on his upcoming Music for Animals tour.

    Incredible

One of the best live shows you’ll ever see. Nils is a genius. His mastery was on complete display, and the Salt Shed is a must attend venue - so cool.

    Brilliant performance!

by Jack R on 4/26/23Massey Hall - Toronto

Nils is a talented and energetic performer! The show had a great mix of his newer music and older piano pieces. My 13-year-old granddaughter attended and thought it was awesome.

    A modern Mozart

by Brad on 4/25/23Massey Hall - Toronto

Truly a musical genius, he blends classical piano with analog synthesis flawlessly. More people need to know his name.

    Phenomenal

    by J on 4/25/23Massey Hall - Toronto

A respectfully silent room of fans being transported to another world, as Nils walks us through his talent of many instruments. Between pieces, a loud roar of admiring fans cheer and clap for the talented Frahm. Being lucky enough to sit front row and admire his work was a thrilling experience, he even took to the crowds to have us contribute to making a song as well. Wonderful experience, I hope he returns.

    All-consuming

by Yo on 4/25/23Massey Hall - Toronto

Not only does his music live draw you in completely, he's more than just a guy who can create beautiful music on the fly. The audience involvement is exciting, he's genuinely funny on stage, the charisma is palpable and everyone can laugh, what you might expect to be pretentious is the opposite of that and the concert flew by. I wish we had another two hours of listening but when a concert is as fun and inspiring as Nils, you can't help but want more. He's also not hesitant to not only meet, but have a conversation with fans after the show (if you know where to find him). I can't wait to see him again.

    Great music, but

    by Rene1 on 4/23/23Kings Theatre - Brooklyn

I love Nils' music, but he was late. Very late. As much as I love The Kings Theater and love Brooklyn. I wanted to walk around still with the bliss of such beautiful music in my head, but the cruel busy city noise made me go back to reality in less than 30 seconds. I love that you managed to have him perform in the US, I love the fact that it did not brake the bank, but can we have more options to have him in different spots in the MidAtlantic. I live in the DC Metro Area and we never get the chance to have these quality musicians over there that often. And whta if it would be during the sunset in an arena or a stadium? Maybe?

    fantastic evening

by ShoreGuy on 4/23/23Kings Theatre - Brooklyn

performance matched the Brooklyn venue - both fantastic. knew he was a piano virtuoso but still astounded that technology in the right hands of just one performer could produce such memorable sound and music. Also a plus, minimal stage effects and no strobes!

    Loved it!

by Alice on 4/23/23Kings Theatre - Brooklyn

Just introduced to him recently through a friend & we loved his music. When I saw he was coming to Kings theater we decided to check it out. He did not disappoint! The sold out crowd provided great energy and they were respectful of his music. We’ll definitely go and see him again!

    Noisy staff and audience

    by J. J. on 4/23/23Kings Theatre - Brooklyn

Nils Frahm performed amazingly, but unfortunately chunks of the concert were very disrupted by audience walking in and out from the bar, and the personal making a lot of noise. For example one was standing in the door with a walkie talkie that often was blasting while door was open.
