NICKEL CREEK IN CONCERT:

Seven years after their 2007 Farewell (For Now) Tour, contemporary bluegrass trio Nickel Creek are making good on their promise of a reunion, hitting the road in support of 2014's A Dotted Line —their first new album since 2005. Featuring innovative fiddle, mandolin, and guitar work, the group's acoustic performances are an impressive display of coordination, highlighted by tight instrumental interplay and intricate vocal harmonies. Celebrating 25 years since their formation, Nickel Creek's 2014 tour will treat fans to their biggest hits alongside material from the new album, with select appearances by country sweethearts the Secret Sisters.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed by Chris Thile and siblings Sara and Sean Watkins in 1989, Nickel Creek began performing as pre-teens, playing bluegrass festivals in the '90s while receiving home-schooling between tour dates. Following two early albums, the trio teamed up with country-folk legend Alison Krauss for their self-titled third album, a critical and commercial success that received several Grammy nominations. 2002's This Side proved an even more momentous success, earning the group a Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album with its creative blend of indie rock and traditional bluegrass elements. Following the 2005 release of their Grammy-winning fifth album Why Should the Fire Die?, the band went on a seven-year hiatus before making a triumphant return to both studio and stage with 2014's A Dotted Line.

    Nickel Creek - Sublime

by greenrbird on 4/22/14Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

Nickel Creek's first performance (of two) at the Church, the Ryman Auditorium, was sublime!! The acoustics in this venue are incredible to begin with, and add to that the welcome back tour of three unbelievably talented artists (count that four to add their bass player!) made for a night of music not soon to be forgotten. Truly. It was a real treat to listen to these artists perform live, together again. Hoping they will not take as long of a break as last time. Hoping all the best to them on this tour and beyond!

    Nickel Creek was worth it

by Jestolan on 4/22/14Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

I am a poor college graduate from Fayetteville, AR. Should I have road tripped 8 hours to see Nickel Creek at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN? No. Do I regret doing it. No!! It was absolutely worth potentially not being able to pay for rent. Nickel Creek is incredible live! I've been to a lot of concerts and Nickel Creek blew everyone else out of the water. They were fun on stage and you can tell they're happy to be back together. I am beyond grateful I was able to see such talented individuals perform together again! They opened with Destination, a new song, and it is one of my favorite Nickel Creek songs, but when they played The Lighthouses' Tale, it brought back so many memories of my childhood that I began to tear up. It was really cheesy even in the moment but it was also so special.

This was THE best concert I have ever been to (and I've been to a lot). The band seemed so excited to be performing together again, and their performance was flawless.

Absolutely first class performance by Nickel Creek. It was my first time at the Ryman and I was blown away by the building acoustics. The perfect venue for a group like NC.

    Reunion tour

by TheConcertQueenCarrie on 4/21/14Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

Awesome!! They are as great as they have always been. I am so excited they are back touring! I'd forgotten how much energy they put into their shows and how much they interact with the crowd. I had so much fun! The crowd was into the show which made it all the more fun. I would go see them again in a heartbeat! Only sorry that I wasn't able to see all 3 shows. Go see them! I had heard about the Secret Sisters a few days before the concert on NPR. They were really good. Will go see them in the future.

The performances by both The Secret Sisters and Nickel Creek were awesome. Unfortunately, the sound in the balcony for The Secret Sisters was terrible and was only slightly better for Nickel Creek.

by EDeeL on 4/21/14Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

This was one of the BEST SHOWS I have ever been to. You could tell that they were happy to be there with their true fans. The smiles on their faces showed how happy they were to be back together at last!!! Also, The Secret Sisters were not to be missed.

by MarkRK on 4/21/14Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

From start to finish, Nickel Creek was entertaining. Their music, old and new, connected the past to the present and the future. We were on our feet at times, cheering at times and in tears at times. What an amazing group of takented musicians and entertainers.

    Fourth time seeing NickelCreek

by hizenberg on 4/21/14Alabama Theatre - Birmingham

This was a fantastic show. Nickel Creek really demonstrates how talented they are when they play live and it sounds as clear and crisp as their studio albums sound. They're great entertainers and engage the crowd well. A great new set from their new album + a long Encore = Nickel Creek still as awesome as ever.

    A Must See Show!

by Flaman on 4/21/14Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

The show was Awesome! The crowd was so into the fact that they were "back" that everyone was just taking in every sound. It was like a long overdue reunion with their fans. Chris Thile...what can I say about him that hasn't been said? If you never wanted to play a stringed instrument, you would after seeing his performance. Constant motion, and he doesn't really play the mandolin...he IS the mandolin. I could have watched him play all night. He made it seem effortless. The way that Sean and Sara Watkins sang and played blended the entire performance into a masterpiece of music. Many of the songs that they sang were from their last CD, Why Should The Fire Die. I haven't heard any of their current CD yet, except for the ones that they played last night, but the ones I heard were pure Nickel Creek. Go see them if they are near you...you Will Not regret it if you like pure, excellent music.

    Awesome Musicians!

by Joxenfe on 4/21/14U.S. Cellular Center Asheville - Asheville

This by far one of the best shows I've ever seen. Nickel Creek is one of the few groups I've seen live that sound better than their albums… Just a very talented group. If there was a separate rating for the venue… I'd give that 2 stars. I only give it more than one because the folks that worked there were very helpful and pleasant. The facility needs a serious renovation. It's boarding on gross.
