we have been seein 311 for years (my husband and I met at 311 in 2001!) and weren't sure how this project would be - was awesome! nick hexum never disappoints and the quintet completin him was amazing ;)
I've seen 311 5 times so it was no question as to if I would see Nick Hexum play with his new quintet (which includes his brother)! I'm used to the big arena shows but this venue and quintet gave a very intimate feel which I know all of the 311 fans LOVED. Not only was the venue awesome (drinks were a little pricey, $36 for 3) but the band was unforgettable! My friends and I got to meet Nick after the show and he signed multiple items for us! Truly an unforgettable night. Probably the best concert I've been to.
The Sinclair is a great small venue, perfect for this debut tour. (If you go, check out the attached restaurant beforehand!) The Quintet's sound is mellow but echos 311's reggae rock sound plus a jam band, jazz/soul feel with a hint of 70s rock (think electric organ). They played most songs off the new album (My Shadow Pages), plus a Beatles cover and a few 311 songs. The sound was great, the stage presence fun and overall it was just a great show. Afterwards, Nick came out to sign autographs and take pictures- something that never happens at 311 concerts! I'm a long time 311 fan, and enjoyed being a part of Nick's musical evolution. Hope there's more to come!
Such a good time on a Sunday night. Love the variety of tunes, surprised but not surprised at how awesome the band was.
Great show with an amazing set of songs and awesome surprises.
The show was amazing! So much fun and everyone in the group was so super talented!!! Absolutely loved it!!! Would highly recommend it next time they go on tour!
First the music led by Nick Hexum was amazing to see live. The band was a perfect fit for Nick's vocals and style - Zack was amazing. The Quintet songs were all great and sounded even better live. Nick threw in some sick remixes of a few 311 songs to satisfy the 311 fans out there. The stage setup was low key and the view and sound were spot on. I am grateful that Nick chose to come to Pittsburgh and Stage AE is my favorite venue come winter or summer to see live acts. Nick took the time to meet every single fan after the show - that included pictures and signings. Top notch guy for him to take the time to do that, for many it was truly an amazing moment to get to meet and talk to him.
I like 311 alot, but have not seen them live , so when I heard The Nick Hexum Quintet on a local radio station, I was blown away. I went to his YouTube page and requested East Coast dates, so was pleasantly surprised to see him playing both NJ &NYC. All musicians are extremely talented and to see this caliber of a show for the price we paid and having the venue within 30 minutes of our home, well it was just an amazing night! They sounded fantastic, great with crowd, some really smooth jam sessions; I could go on & on!! Have already suggested to friends in Hoboken, to catch him at the Gramercy Theatre.
My fiancé and I had an amazing time. Celebrated our birthdays there together! I got picked for his dice jam song and love love loved it :) small place to have the show but turned out nice bc that just means we was actually closer to him :) overall it was an amazing show and an amazing night!!
