NEW ORDER IN CONCERT:

As one of the most influential new wave bands of the '80s, New Order  brought electronic dance music to the forefront of mainstream consciousness, setting the tone for generations of music to come. EDM progenitors like "Blue Monday" and "Bizarre Love Triangle" sound as fresh today as they did 30 years ago, making the band a continued presence atop festival bills around the globe. Bernard Sumner and co. sounded as sharp as ever on tour in 2013, treating fans to an emotional Joy Division tribute during their encores and setting expectations sky high for their 2014 appearances.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in the wake of legendary post-punk band Joy Division, New Order pressed on after  late-frontman Ian Curtis' suicide with a decidedly more optimistic sound than the group's Curtis-fronted incarnation. With former guitarist/keyboardist Bernard Sumner assuming vocal duties under the new moniker, New Order made their album debut in 1981 with Movement, breaking from the gravity of their previous work with buoyant tracks like "Dreams Never End." 1983 follow-up Power, Corruption & Lies really broke the mold, exploring a fusion of rock and early techno that brought them international fame and influenced much of the decade's ensuing music. Over nine studio albums, New Order have built one of the most beloved legacies in popular music, continuing to thrill awestruck fans both in the studio and on the road.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Bernard and company came with a lot of energy. Played lots of New Order faves and dug deep for some Joy Division chestnuts."

"Perfect show. They played all the hits and closed with a flawless three song Joy Division encore. They sounded great"

"New Order still has it!!! Saw them back in the 80's & this show was just as awesome!"

    A shrill disappointment

by silvalen on 10/7/12Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

I was really looking forward to seeing New Order. They've been one of the bands that I never saw when I was younger, and when I heard they were touring again I was really excited. On top of that, they were playing the Fox Theater, one of the most beautiful venues in the Bay Area. Sadly, the show was a complete disappointment. Both the opening act and New Order were painfully loud. Additionally, the higher register notes during New Order's set were extremely screechy and shrill. A couple of times I plugged my ears and found that the sound was improved and that I could actually make out the music and lyrics better.

Great venue, great band. Other than the drunk woman who puked in the bathroom, the show was awesome.

    Dancing to Bizarre Love Triangle

by noLondon on 10/7/12Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Out was great to dance with the New Order faithful. The show was an hour and forty minutes long, but I wanted it to be longer to dance all night! I would have liked an encore, but the two Joy Division songs were a nice treat. Couldn't understand Bernard's banter, but other than that, great show!

    New Order @ Fox theater

by Disorder on 10/7/12Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Having only seen New Order once before (Coachella 2005) I was pretty excited to see them again as I became a bigger fan of their work as well as Joy Divisions. Since there are only 3 original members it might not have been the same as it was in the 80's. But they still put on an awesome show. I left pretty happy with the set list and the performance. Light show was above average. The Fox is an awesome venue. I was on the floor 25 ft from stage. The sound was pretty good but might have been better a little further back.

    more awesome than I imagined!

by blueingenue on 10/7/12Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

One of the "must see" bands on my list of bands to see before I die. New Order fulfilled all my expectations, and then some. They went thru a songlist of all their famous hits and performed them beautifully. The Joy Division tribute towards the end was so unexpected and wonderful. The cherry on the cake of a perfect evening of unforgettable music that draws new generations of fans year after year.

    Do not miss!

by TheIMJG on 7/25/12The Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Not so good audio at the Hollywood bowl in '93, but truly amazing at Coachella in '05. The sound at the Greek never disappoints. Cant wait!
