New Jersey Devils History

The New Jersey Devils were born in 1982, the third incarnation of a franchise that began as the Kansas City Scouts (1974-76) before spending six years in Denver as the Colorado Rockies. The arrival of president/general manager Lou Lamoriello in 1987 started the franchise's rise to the NHL elite. The Devils made the playoffs in 21 of the next 24 seasons, including five trips to the Stanley Cup Final.

The Devils made it as far as the conference finals in the 1987-1988 and 1993-1994 seasons, preparing them for their historic run the following year in which they won their first Stanley Cup Championship, sweeping the Detroit Red Wings.

The Devils returned to the Stanley Cup Final in 2000, dispatching the Dallas Stars in six games on an iconic double-overtime Cup-clinching goal by Jason Arnott. The next season, as the best offensive team in the NHL, they returned to the Final.

The Devils' stretch of dominance was far from over, though. They won their third Stanley Cup Championship in 2003, spoiling the Anaheim Ducks’ first-ever playoff run with a Game 7 shutout orchestrated by Martin Brodeur. To date, the club has won three Stanley Cup Championships and five Eastern Conference Championships.

In 2022, the Devils returned to the second round of the playoffs—their first time since 2011. Led by young stars Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier, the Devils defeated their long-time rivals the New York Rangers in the first round, before losing their next series to the Carolina Hurricanes.

  • A fun experience every time

by Mick on 1/25/24Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

A great time watching two of my favorite teams battle it out. NJ fans are some of the best I’ve experienced a there isn’t a bad seat in the arena. Staff is always friendly.

  • A good event

by Andy on 12/30/23Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

Sector 230 has a proper view (good for the price). Food was decent, maybe a bit overpriced. The game was not the best of this season, but dramatic enough with a happy ending. Parking at entry was ok. Parking at leave a bit crowded and not organized well.

  • Exciting

My wife got me these tickets.for my birthday. And the Devils gave me a great gift with the OT win.

  • Disappointing Pride Night

by Njrichh on 12/25/23Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 3 out of 5

I love Pride Night game events. But the Devils event lacked any energy or fun. The lack of Pride merchandise was disappointing. A Pride puck is not what LGBTQ are looking for on Pride nights. The amazing pride night design was not available to the general public. A Pride night in December at the Christmas game was awkward. I will probably not return next year.

  • Great Match at Prudential

by First Time NHL Attendee on 12/17/23Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

I bought these tickets as an early Christmas gift for my boyfriend (a long time fan) and we went with his family. Getting into the game was quick with the Ticketmaster app and there were plenty of people near the seats to direct you once you got in. The match was great, despite some iffy playing by the Devils. All in all, we had a great night. The only slight downside was the price of drinks ($14.99 for a High Noon!) but that’s to be expected at a sports game. The toilets were also clean which was a bonus, but the wait times were pretty long. Again, that’s not unusual for a sports match though. If you haven’t been to the Prudential Center in Newark before, they do have a lot of parking at the stadium, but if you can I suggest finding parking elsewhere as the traffic is crazy trying to get out of the city.

  • Good

by Mike on 12/16/23Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

Food still somewhat pricey n long lines. With games being sold out there should be more staff

  • New Arena Has Problems

by Ferbert on 12/16/23Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

Enjoyed the game, but we were sitting in the upper bowl, and could not understand ANYTHING the announcer was saying because of the terrible echoing. Despite some speakers pointing right at us, the echoes were terrible. Design flaw I guess.

  • Everything was quite satisfactory

by Adam on 12/4/23Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

From a Ticketmaster perspective, everything was great at the Prudential Centre. The Devils could not have played worst that night against the Sharks, but that is certainly not Ticketmaster's fault.

  • I LOVE JACK HUGHES

by ds on 11/19/23Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

  • Parking

by Cowgirlkee on 11/13/23Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 3 out of 5

It’s a shame that the city has not figured out how to get people out of the city quickly. Other venues have officers and lights timed correctly and get traffic out much quicker. This is something that should definitely be looked into.

  • nice experience

    by krys.bv.1784 on 11/13/23Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

The match went excellently. A convenient service for purchasing tickets. Fast and pleasant experience

  • Ehh

by Carmen on 11/13/23Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 3 out of 5

The game was great! Concourse seems like it needs an update, some staff is friendly but in upper levels people walk down the stairs alot when the puck is in play, so kind of annyoing

  • Just perfect!

  • Devils won...that's always a plus!

by JZ on 10/30/23Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

The game itself had everything I love about hockey...goals and a fight! The only thing that keeps this from a five-star review was the food in the Club Lounge East. So much salt on everything! I was excited about the fact that my tickets included the buffet; but the options were meh at best, except for the desserts. Additionally, bottled water wasn't an option as a drink unless you left the club area and went to a concession stand. Even mini water bottles would have been a fine alternative to water from the soda machine. Overall, as long as the Devils win then I can't complain too much.

  • Awesome Game Great Atmosphere

by Dan on 10/30/23Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

First ever Ice Hockey game, couldn't have asked for a more thrilling game, great atmosphere and very entertaining.

  • Devils VS Panthers game 3 23/24 season

by Humac on 10/19/23Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

Poor performance from Devils will need more from those guys. Stadium food mediocre and barely warm. New AI tills next to useless. Ticketmaster app good as usual.

  • Amazing time

by Niko on 10/19/23Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

We had an amazing time at the game … food and drinks were great.

  • Fun Time But Concessions Disappoint

by Jack on 10/15/23Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 3 out of 5

As usual, the game was a lot of fun. This is fast and talented, and I expect them to do a lot of great things this season. They'll score in bunches and the defense seems pretty solid too, even despite the youth and inexperience of the D-corps. Bottom line, the product on the ice is fantastic and worth the time and money. The atmosphere among the fans is still fantastic too. The concession stands are still a disappointment though. It's basically the same stands as before, it's just Levy managing it instead of Legends. While there are some changes to the menu, they really represent the marked improvement that we were promised by the club. I settled on the Mexican food stand by Section 116 because I realized that the burger now no longer comes with fries, they are instead sold separately from each other. So, paying $15 for a burger and another $7 for fries, $22, is just extortionate, so I settled on an alternative. The chicken tacos were pedestrian and they're not very filling either. The worst thing about the changes in the concessions is the beer selection. I'm glad that they still have Yuengling available because otherwise it's Anheuser-Busch beers. Bud and Bud Light are trash, and the craft brews that A-B has acquired have all dropped in quality since they became part of the A-B portfolio, so it was nice to be able to enjoy Labatt's or Molson as an alternative in previous seasons. They're gone now and the beer selection is a massive step down as a result of it. Bottom line, go to the game because what you see on the ice will more than justify the price of your ticket. However, do yourself a favor and load up on food and beer at any of the bars and restaurants around the arena. You'll get better quality and almost certainly save money too. Five stars for the on-ice product, two stars for the concessions.

  • Wonderful!

The game was great! The seats were great! It was such a wonderful night!

  • BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE

by Carolina on 7/4/23Rating: 5 out of 5

I went to the Ducks v Devils game and had the time of my life. The game went into a shootout and the devils one, it was lit. Each team only scored once, but when the devils did it was electric. Although my phone feel in between the seats and the glass behind the bench, the staff was helpful in getting it. I love Prudential Center, one day I will be back.
