New Jersey Devils History

The New Jersey Devils were born in 1982, the third incarnation of a franchise that began as the Kansas City Scouts (1974-76) before spending six years in Denver as the Colorado Rockies. The arrival of president/general manager Lou Lamoriello in 1987 started the franchise's rise to the NHL elite. The Devils made the playoffs in 21 of the next 24 seasons, including five trips to the Stanley Cup Final.

The Devils made it as far as the conference finals in the 1987-1988 and 1993-1994 seasons, preparing them for their historic run the following year in which they won their first Stanley Cup Championship, sweeping the Detroit Red Wings.

The Devils returned to the Stanley Cup Final in 2000, dispatching the Dallas Stars in six games on an iconic double-overtime Cup-clinching goal by Jason Arnott. The next season, as the best offensive team in the NHL, they returned to the Final.

The Devils' stretch of dominance was far from over, though. They won their third Stanley Cup Championship in 2003, spoiling the Anaheim Ducks’ first-ever playoff run with a Game 7 shutout orchestrated by Martin Brodeur. To date, the club has won three Stanley Cup Championships and five Eastern Conference Championships.

In 2022, the Devils returned to the second round of the playoffs—their first time since 2011. Led by young stars Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier, the Devils defeated their long-time rivals the New York Rangers in the first round, before losing their next series to the Carolina Hurricanes.

  • Devils starting to look really good

by Anonymous on 11/1/16Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

The Devils really had jump, as they say, as they went out to quick lead and kept up the pressure. I was particularly impressed with how frequently they kept Tampa from clearing the zone with their smart play. I hadn't been to a game in a few years, and though there are a lot of new faces, it was nice to see the team playing so well.

Great time at the game. Good food n drinks Only problem I have is that the parking is ridiculously expensive.

Overall a great experience. Even though are seats were very high up, we saw the entire game with ease.

  • Let's Go Devils!

I'm a Devils fan, so I'm far from an unbiased source of review. I'll put it this way - the arena is conveniently reached by train, there's not a bad seat in the place, there's a great atmosphere among fans and employees alike, and you get to watch Devils hockey. What more is there?

  • Devils and Pru Center ROCK !!!

We attended the 10/29 Devils' game and had an awesome time!! Even lucked into a seat upgrade, which moved us from Sec. 110 to Sec. 19 --- NINE ROWS OFF THE ICE !!!

The game was terrific - of course, being a Blackhawk fan I was very happy with the outcome. Winning in OT is very exciting. I do have one complaint - the speaker system needs to be improved - it was very hard to hear and understanding when goals and penalties were announced. The announcements were on the quiet side and sounded garbled. The seats were very good - we enjoy being in the upper level as you can see all the plays happening.

  • Devils score with 2 minutes left to win

    by dmack1968 on 10/28/16Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

Devils score 5 goals and get win over Arizona. There were plenty of shots and plenty of goals, both teams played average, but even game to make it exciting to watch.

Excellent seats to view the game. Arena was beautiful with plenty of food to select from. Prices were slightly elevated so I would suggest eating before going to an event here.

Trained into Newark which meant lots of fans on the train and walking to the Pru center which is fun. Had dinner before the game at Redds beer garden. Cool experience. Great seats. Both Marty and Scotty were in the house and the Devils came from behind to win in OT

  • Awesome Game

by VinnieLangdon on 10/25/16Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

My Family & I had a great time at the Devils vs. Wild game at the Prudential Center. The only downside and stressful part was using the eTickets. When I purchased tickets I got a total of 4. 2 Tickets in one section and 2 in another. I had the eTickets under my Name and on my Phone. There was no printable feature for this game. When we arrived we had to stand in line at the Prudential Center to get the tickets printed so my family could also get in with ease without me having to escort them all the way on the other side of the venue. We thought it would be easier but one of the clerks at the box office had no idea what we were talking about when we asked if they could print the tickets for my Family. We had to go in another line that didn't open until the general public doors opened up at 5:30... or they were supposed to at 5:30 and didn't open up until 6:00pm. Once we were able to get our tickets printed from RESOLUTION window at Box Office (not Ticket SALES), we were able to get in. The Devils ended up winning in overtime. The Music at the Arena isn't loud as other Arenas I have attended before which is sort of disappointing. It's much quieter at the New Jersey Devils games than expected. Compared to other hockey arenas I been to usually fans are yelling, cheering, screaming their heads off at Refs and to me that's a fun HOCKEY GAME! The Arena however was crowded. By the time you got up during an intermission to reach the nearest bathroom, it was already the start of the next period and missed a goal. This night was special because the legendary Martin Brodeur was at the game celebrating his Statue "The Salute" Dedication. It was outdoors of the arena. It was a small crowd for what I was expecting to be a huge one. It was nice to be able to see the legend in person. Overall I give it a 4 Stars for the fun, excitement and experience however I wish the ticket process was easier.
