New Jersey Devils History

The New Jersey Devils were born in 1982, the third incarnation of a franchise that began as the Kansas City Scouts (1974-76) before spending six years in Denver as the Colorado Rockies. The arrival of president/general manager Lou Lamoriello in 1987 started the franchise's rise to the NHL elite. The Devils made the playoffs in 21 of the next 24 seasons, including five trips to the Stanley Cup Final.

The Devils made it as far as the conference finals in the 1987-1988 and 1993-1994 seasons, preparing them for their historic run the following year in which they won their first Stanley Cup Championship, sweeping the Detroit Red Wings.

The Devils returned to the Stanley Cup Final in 2000, dispatching the Dallas Stars in six games on an iconic double-overtime Cup-clinching goal by Jason Arnott. The next season, as the best offensive team in the NHL, they returned to the Final.

The Devils' stretch of dominance was far from over, though. They won their third Stanley Cup Championship in 2003, spoiling the Anaheim Ducks’ first-ever playoff run with a Game 7 shutout orchestrated by Martin Brodeur. To date, the club has won three Stanley Cup Championships and five Eastern Conference Championships.

In 2022, the Devils returned to the second round of the playoffs—their first time since 2011. Led by young stars Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier, the Devils defeated their long-time rivals the New York Rangers in the first round, before losing their next series to the Carolina Hurricanes.

  • Great atmosphere great game

    by JohnNJD84 on 3/9/18Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

Had a good time watching the Devils play. Seats were great, probably not a bad seat in the arena. Learned seat 1, not an aisle seat in section 115 lol, so little sucky but not horrible. View was still awesome.

  • Awesome seats

    by LU21welder on 3/7/18Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

The mezzanine level is the best of both worlds. High enough to see all the action but still close enough to feel like your not in the nosebleeds. Pru Center offers a clean and modern arena experience.

First time at Prudential Center. Even though were from Pittsburgh and were there to cheer on Fleury and the Golden Knights everyone we dealt with welcomed us with open arms. The arena was clean and easy to maneuver even with a wheelchair. Thank you Devils and Prudential Center.

  • Devils wins on Patrik Elias Jersey Retirement Nigh

    by orton316 on 3/2/18Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

Before the game, the New Jersey Devils organization retires the number 26 to the rafters of the Prudential Center and it was an awesome ceremony. As for the game, the Devils scored two goals in the third period as they came from behind and beat the New York Islanders by the score of 2-1. A good win by the New Jersey Devils

Prudential Center is a wonderful venue with multiple various food and drink options. Devils can't score! But we go at least once a year and hopefully a playoff this year

  • by GGosselin on 2/4/18Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

I was disappointed it wasn’t well attended. Would be better if a Friday or Saturday afternoon game.

  • Red Wings beat the Devils!

by JimmyGtheredwingsguy on 1/25/18Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

The game was great. Detroit won 3-0. The best was a devils fan painted his upper body with the devils logo and dancing around .. ps he was a very large guy...lol

  • Game Day Experience could be better

by McWhorterFan on 1/25/18Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 3 out of 5

Notwithstanding a losing effort the Game Day Experience could be improved with more interactive displays and music in line with other teams in the NHL. There's a over reliance on the NJ Devil Mascot. There's limited amenities outside the Arena.

  • Great Seats

    by VinnyMac36 on 1/25/18Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

Went to a Devils game with one of my buddies who is a huge Devils fan. Game was disappointing because the Devils lost but the seats were awesome and the venue is great to watch a hockey game!

  • DEVILS WIN!

    by WaluigiWario10000 on 1/2/18Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

No matter what NHL team you represent, you have to come see at least one rivalry match between the Devils and Rangers. I am a Devils fan myself and to witness the action between these 2 teams was phenomenal. I was really glad when the Devils prevailed against the Rangers in a shootout and to see my team win always makes my night. GO DEVILS!

  • Prudential Center Rocks!

    by Jms718 on 12/24/17Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

Not a bad seat in the house and ideal for NHL hockey unlike Barclays in Brooklyn which isn’t. Would definitely go again even if it’s not a Rangers-Devils game.
