New Jersey Devils History

The New Jersey Devils were born in 1982, the third incarnation of a franchise that began as the Kansas City Scouts (1974-76) before spending six years in Denver as the Colorado Rockies. The arrival of president/general manager Lou Lamoriello in 1987 started the franchise's rise to the NHL elite. The Devils made the playoffs in 21 of the next 24 seasons, including five trips to the Stanley Cup Final.

The Devils made it as far as the conference finals in the 1987-1988 and 1993-1994 seasons, preparing them for their historic run the following year in which they won their first Stanley Cup Championship, sweeping the Detroit Red Wings.

The Devils returned to the Stanley Cup Final in 2000, dispatching the Dallas Stars in six games on an iconic double-overtime Cup-clinching goal by Jason Arnott. The next season, as the best offensive team in the NHL, they returned to the Final.

The Devils' stretch of dominance was far from over, though. They won their third Stanley Cup Championship in 2003, spoiling the Anaheim Ducks’ first-ever playoff run with a Game 7 shutout orchestrated by Martin Brodeur. To date, the club has won three Stanley Cup Championships and five Eastern Conference Championships.

In 2022, the Devils returned to the second round of the playoffs—their first time since 2011. Led by young stars Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier, the Devils defeated their long-time rivals the New York Rangers in the first round, before losing their next series to the Carolina Hurricanes.

  • Good

by EB on 10/13/19Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

The event was lit. Pretty solid crowd for a Thursday game but there could’ve been more. Fans were hype in this game and the game didn’t disappoint, going all the way to shootouts. Food was delicious but a little bit expensive. Overall good experience.

  • great game, horrible seats

by Nova on 4/2/19Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

The NJ Devils played a great game despite losing in the final seconds of OT. My seats were horrible up top because I am used to sitting lower and because my view was partially blocked.

  • Great ice hockey venue

    by O. T. on 3/28/19Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

Real fans, great area and a fun ice hockey experience. Getting to the arena is quick and easy even from New York City. The fans are always friendly and the atmosphere is fantastic. Get involved by celebrating each goal with a hearty Whooo!

  • Great ice hockey

by Andrew on 3/26/19Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

Travelled from the UK to take in a couple of ice hockey matches. We all agreed that the NJD experience was by far the beat of the weekend!

  • Clean arena designed to allow for crowd movement

by Andrew of Dunedin on 3/26/19Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

So many arenas were designed forgetting to accommodate crowds of people in the hallways. Between periods of a game, people want to move to restrooms and concession stands. AND they sometimes have to stand in line at those places. After the game, LOTS of people in the hallway. Prudential Center was well designed to allow for crowd movement!! (The game itself was fun, too - Devils won in a 6 round shootout, with opposition hitting the post on their 6th attempt. SO CLOSE to having to go on ...)

  • woooooooo

As a devils fan, I'm always happy to come from europe even if we don't play well. Great arena, nice atmosphere, good to enjoy ... And say : woooooooo (nj devils fans will understand that)

  • So much fun

by EXCELLENT! on 3/4/19Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first hockey game and I really enjoyed it What a great time. From the energetic referees to the hockey players entering the ice to the DJ playing awesome tunes, there is not one thing I did not enjoy. Even the bathrooms were clean!!

  • Minor league team at major league prices

by Russ on 3/4/19Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 1 out of 5

I need to remember to never schedule a Devils game after January, and certainly never past the trade deadline. There is no comfort to the casual fan in the fact that the absence of many of the team's best players is done to make the team better in years to come. The Devils were dismal.

  • it was a great night for me and my son

    by D. S. on 2/28/19Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

the seats were very good and the people sitting around us were good people and the good thing was the Devils won the game 2 to 1., but the very best thing was that my son Ryan ( 20 Yrs ) old was there with me a father and son bonding. Thank You

  • Disabled far away

    by G. on 2/20/19Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 3 out of 5

I had tickets for place with wheelchair. Of course, thank you and so on... but is so far from rink. And I did not see any closer opportunity. Good news Devils won!

  • Islanders-Devils

    by K. S. on 2/10/19Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

I felt that the experience was good; Prudential Center is easy to reach by mass transit.

  • Group of kids

    by K on 2/8/19Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 1 out of 5

My seats happened to be behind a large group of kids aged 10-14. They were obnoxious, rude and blocked our view of the game. They kept switching seats, sometimes sitting in the seats of other guests. Constantly getting up and blocking our view of the game. There was 1 adult for about 40 kids. If there were more adults, they did not do a thing about these kids behavior. They also screamed profanities for 0 reason. They were with Rutherford band. It’s great that they did a performance and got to go to a game, but next time maybe they should be given the very top rows so they don’t disturb anyone behind them. Disappointed that the devils allow this .

  • Great experience alot of fun

Weather was good, lines went fast getting into arena. Seats were great. They won which is always a plus. Food expensive but expected.
